Someone on X asked me yesterday why I only talk positive of China, now you have one. Enjoy!

Chinese are generally polite and courteous to each other. When visiting, your host will boil tea and spend the whole time pouring cup after cup for you. They will even give you food if you are hungry.

"Your host will boil tea and spend the whole time pouring cup after cup for you." With all due respect, I’m not a fan of this. I find it quite annoying. We used to follow the same tradition, but even in the villages, it’s starting to change. I mean no disrespect-I’m just sharing my honest opinion.

@@marklegendgangmei I know what you mean. It makes you feel obligated to return the favour. But it's part of their culture so it is what it is.

No, I will not want those extras hospitality which I never ask for. So, it's annoying and disturbing. Hope you can understand that. And I don't think it will happen every time and everywhere in China.

@@marklegendgangmei The issue is YOU don't like this, but why should a billion people change their culture to suit your aesthetic? Which segways nicely into your 2nd point, if your attitude represents that of your fellow countrymen then are you at all surprised about mockery, Americans, of all people, can recognise that , 'when in Rome do as the Romans', if you are in some one else's place you abide by their rules and etiquette, however, this basic respect seems to be lost on you and people should just plain do what suits you, otherwise you'll be annoyed! Hey your youtube channel you can spout whatever you like but 'me, me, me' never goes down well any where!

Oh come on, when did I say you should change your culture? I express what I feel, personal opinion, do you understand this, my friend? My opinion could be right or wrong. Human being express. Is this something new to you? LOL.

You feel Chinese politeness is excessive because you are in wrong place or channel. Xiaohongshu is a place for people to waste time and relax. No one will try to be a D to ruin the atmosphere. Try live and work with Chinese in China. You will understand brute honesty in different level.

You made an issue on the simple greeting on "Ni Hao", what nonsense!

It’s politeness welcoming guests, you may feel unwelcome because your comments may not be so unwelcoming in the first place.

I witnessed many things during my time there, but I choose not to share them here out of respect for the Chinese people. I’m not a TikToker; my purpose was to observe interactions, not to create content. I’m not saying I dislike Chinese culture, nor am I suggesting that you should change your culture, as Westerners often presume to say. In fact, this kind of extra hospitality is also common in India.
What I want to emphasize is that I dislike excessive hospitality. Whether in China or Indian villages, being subjected to unasked-for hospitality feels intrusive and unsettling. It can feel like a personal invasion, especially when I’m treated like a feudal lord. From an equality perspective, this behavior isn’t ideal-it creates an imbalance, as not all guests are treated equally.
As for the presence of Americans on Rednote, they won’t stay there forever, and their prolonged presence might not be beneficial for China. Over time, those Americans who remain risk losing touch with their own reality.

There is indeed a ‘delete’ function on RedNote, and you can edit your post at ANYTIME. Other aspects I can only describe as unreliable or falsified.

I don't think the Chinese don't like Indians or they like the Yanks more. I think US people is a rare guest whereas Indians have long been seen in China.
