Thank you for your simplicity and essence of humor.
My pleasure!
This helped me a lot. You're whole personality and voice makes everything uncomplicated and easier. You're like a really techie Santa. Love it.
This is fantastic! I am teaching a group of middle schoolers how to use different computer programs and we start spreadsheets on Monday. Your video is easy to follow and your enthusiasm made me smile and want to learn more. Thank you so much!
I work with adult learners to help them get their HS diploma (not GED) and learn skills for the workplace. I hope you don't mind us using your content. It is not for financial gain, just helping those who need an opportunity to find some success. Thank you Dottotech!
I love that you gave the history and gave credit to those involved.
You Sir are a great teacher! I have watched several Google sheets videos and this is by far the most helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Agree with all of the above. The most helpful video I've seen.
My first time using Google sheets, in fact it's the first time I've ever had to use a spreadsheet for work. Your video was very informative and interesting. Thank you for taking the time out of your life to do a video like this. It really does help beginners like me who wouldn't have a clue otherwise. Thank you.
What a blast from the past. I happened to stumble upon this video and thought to myself, 'Dotto... Steve Dotto... that sounds familiar, where have I seen this guy before?' I looked it up, and it was the show on TV from years ago! I loved watching that show, glad you're still making content!
Glad you found us again!
I greatly appreciate the way in which you narrate your videos. Very enjoyable and they help me grow. Thanks Steve
Hands down one of the easiest and straightforward quick start guides for Google Sheets I've watched! Thanks a ton Steve, love your work and your willingness to help others learn quicker and easier.
I still have Visicalc and it's box! I forget what I payed for it, but my father wanted something that he could use to keep track of gas mileage and car expenses. I wrote a program in basic for him that worked for a while, then he wanted to start adding household finances and expenses, and that was getting to difficult to combine for me. So I spent what I felt was an ungodly amount of money on it, and sat there for days on end learning how to use it. I finally managed to make separate sheets for each thing dad wanted to track, then have the front page as an overview of everything. It was fantastic as to what it would do. At my first job the boss wanted something similar for inventory and pay checks and banking. I stupidly mentioned that I knew how to use Visicalc and could probably make something up. Well that became my new job. It even came with a raise! That was my job for the next 4 years. Just updating the sheets, adding new features and what not. It was an amazing program. I wish I had an older machine now just so I could play with not just Visicalc, but other great older programs and games from that era!
Fantastic story! Thanks for sharing!
I found you a few months ago, I've explored many of your videos.
I think by far the Google videos that you do are my fav.s
Each time I re-watch one I learn something that I missed.
Your instruction of use is so easy to interpret and understand.
Just recently once again I've been ask to get involved with our family bussiness.
You've helped my experience of looking for and finding tools to help me work
through organizing some very difficult piles of paperwork and tools to
keep items organized, easy to reference and share with others that work within
our business.
Thank you a thousand times over.
Nikki
That is awesome to hear, thanks!
You have an AWESOME GIFT and you are sharing it in a VERY SIMPLE & UNDERSTANDABLE WAYS. Your material is awesome and you are an awesome teacher. Thank you.
Thanks sir!! I have not been watching your videos lately. I have been busy working on my business. I’ve had up and downs but it has been super. I want to thank you because you were one of my inspirations to start. I stopped watching videos and started DOING. There is a big difference , once I started doing, i did many of the things I learned from you. Gracias!!
Thanks so much! I am not a computer person, and live with an iPhone and iPad. I wanted a budgeting tool, and this sounded great! I can’t wait to tinker around with Google Sheets since you have taken my fear of wasting time and not knowing what to do away! My first and all time favorite “spreadsheet” is a 27-column pad lol! My dad was a CPA, and I helped at the office in the 60’s - with a calculator containing a roll of paper. So glad for things today that do all the computations. Thanks again!
This is the first spread sheet I've ever used. Now my mind is blown. Finally I can design a dynamic way to track my own spending and budget!! Wish I had been taught this stuff ohhhhhh 15 years ago lmao
You always seem to be having fun in your videos...I think that's why I keep coming back to them. Nice work.
I wish more people could watch this.
I'm watching from Kenya and you're a very great teacher, from basics to complex 😍😍😍😍. I'm only 22 years, and my first spreadsheet was Excel.😂😂.
Thanks a lot for the video.
Thank you! 😃
Enjoyed the video. I have been using Google Sheets for the past three years. The video has given me some additional tips to increase my usage of Google Sheets. Thanks!
You are the best!!!! Thank you 😊😊
I was 0% interested in I.T. back in the late 80s not knowing how it would save my life at this stage in life.
Never too late I guess, but thanks for being here sharing your knowledge in a very clear way.
I’m glad you found us
Just found your video Steve & loved it. I'm going to follow the links to your others. This is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm not totally inept with computers, but I just started using Google Sheets this week. Back about 25 years ago (mid 90's) I bought a massive 2" thick book & taught myself to use Microsoft Access for keeping customer records for the family business. I ended up leaving the business back then, started another, & have now come back to the family business & they're still using the same Access database (upgraded over the years of course). I've been trying to look for a way to automate the office more for ease/efficiency & thought that the Google products might be the way to go because they're online & could connect the office with the guys in the field easily. I'm very much looking forward to watching your other videos. I've moved 35k records from Access to Sheets via Excel & I'm looking for better ways to input jobs through forms & moving the Sheets data into an invoice to print. Thanks for the help!
Hey man, I've been trying to figure out sheets for awhile and your video is the only one i've come across that dosent completely bore me to d3eath
Great delivery. I caught your amazement for it - it is amazing the software we take for granted. Thanks for making me say "wow" during a spreadsheet video, of all things!
This is so exciting! You have made navigating spreadsheets fun. Much appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video. Most tutorials on this have me asleep in the first 30 seconds. You were clear and to the point . Looking forward to watching more of you videos
enjoyed the simplicity of this video. Easy to follow and easy to learn
Thanks for the video great introduction. It was exactly what I was looking for to illustrate the power of spreadsheets to a student who I am mentoring. Your mention of Visicalc brought back memories. In the 1970s I set up and ran an early decision support service for UK retailer W.H,Smith. I had to train and support people, new to computers, on Visicalc, Wordstar, DB Master. We had a state of the art bank of 8 Apple IIs. I recall the visual adventure game Cranston Manor was popular too.
Great to hear!
My first spreadsheet came with a Daypro II portable computer that used two 5¨ floppy diskettes. and it was fun watching the small screen scroll as you passed the number of columns or rows seen on the screen.
Thanks so much for the awesome tutorial!! Not only was this very helpful but your energy and excitement jumps through the screen and ultimately gets the viewer excited about the possibilities of Google Sheets. Thank you!!!
Thank you. Never have used spreadsheets before. So this is extremely helpful!
Thank you for starting with the BASICS.! ! So many tutorials assume you have the basic skills
Thanks Steve , this has been a lot easier to learn from. Then everything that I have purchased and sat an watch. It my be just me, being of the old gang. Your tutorials have helped me a great deal. I have told many others about your site . Keep up the great work on all of it.
Very nice, non-intimidating intro to spreadsheets. This will be great to share with my teachers and staff who need an intro. Thanks for your wonderful work.
Wonderfully Done! So informative and not confusing without talking to us like we are dummies. Thank you so much for this video!
My first spreadsheet was Lotus 123. This was another easy to follow video. So I finally subscribed to the channel!
i paused the video midway so i could comment what such a great video this is i use a google docs sheet to keep track of my money in my bank account and where it needs to go but honestly, I'm changing that today GREAT JOB
Genius! Thanks for letting me know. Best teacher ever!
Fantastic video, Steve!
Very good job I have used excel but was not sure if it followed the same basic instructions. Thank you.
Steve, collaboration is the most important aspect of google sheets, your giving us a tut on Microsoft excel
Steve, I use IFTT scripts (free to use and download) to record times, dates, length of the call and who called or who I called from my android phone to a Google spreadsheet automatically.
One of the smartest guy I know, great job.
Lotus 123 was first, and I've been using Excel (which I love) since it came out . But now I need to use Google Sheets for work, and it is quite a learning curve. Just found your video, and I'm looking forward to viewing more. Thank you!
Really enjoyed the presentation style. For a moment there you had me feeling excited about spread sheets!
Steve, Good stuff. My first spreadsheet software was Borland's Quattro Pro. Way ahead of its time.
thanks for making this interesting clear and helpful
The first computer I saw was in 1973 in an orthodontist office I worked at in Victoria, TX. It used floppy disc the size of 78 records. The hard drive measured 3 feet by 4 feet. In 1974, the next one was at Alcoa, in Port Lavaca, TX . It used punch cards and filled a large room. In 1983, I took a short course in programming. We used VisiCalc and I don’t re`member what word processing program. The unusual aspect was the monitor screen was legal paper size. I’ve never seen another monitor like that. In 1984 I co- managed a 12,000 acre ranch and used Lotus 123. Fun times!
Thanks, Steve for the Sheets demo, although basic functions, I have learnt something. Thank you very much.
Thank you for this video! It was incredibly helpful. Google sheets is my first spreadsheet application I've ever used and I am loving it.
My first spreadsheet was call Busicalc on an HP3000 mainframe circa 1985. I was ‘drafted’ secretary of the company golf league after complaining about the scoring accuracy. After the first week of doing it by hand I realized the calculating of scores along with the oddball handicapping system (anything over a double bogey was not counted toward the handicap) was difficult and time consuming. As an Engineer I wanted to learn about spreadsheets anyway so I put it on a spreadsheet. My boss was in the league and I told him I was learning how to use spreadsheets. A two hour job condensed into a 15 minute data entry task. I ended up being the ‘Spreadsheet Guru’ of the plant. They used the program until the demise of the HP3000 and then I was ‘volunteered’ to move it to Excel.
I love these "origin stories" so many of us have similar introductions!
I used Excel 2007. Thank you for another great video. This was very entertaining.
Help! My knowledge of spreadsheets is limited especially for calculating simple formulas and using things like “$” to reference cells & sheets. I just figured an easier way to set up running totals & final totals. Those of us who are challenged in the ways of the Google Spreadsheet have a lot more to learn and Dottotech is just the person to give us more learn’n.
Very good. straight forward and easy to follow. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this. It has been quite awhile since i used spreadsheets, but this was a great little refresher course for the basics
thank you! this was super helpful. i feel less intimidated by google sheets now!
Thank you! You brought to light somethings I did not realize.
I think that google sheets is great. Thanks for teaching me how to use it
Thanks we need more videos explained well like this
Really enjoyed the video very easy informative teaching style thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been wanting to use spreed sheets but the thought was so over whelming ... I'm starting a redeeming business and a few others in the future so i really wanted to learn a simple way to manage finances of incoming and out going... Now I just have to learn how to organize a bit ...
Thanks for the easy set up visual ... Loved the great content...
Thanks Steve, great to see a video on Google Sheets.
I remember using Lotus, I believe I started with VisiCalc. Now I do remember using spreadsheet software that had the forward slash command that either gave you the Lotus 1 2 3 menu structure OR the VisiCalc menu structure because this was at the time the most popular.
Thank you very much, lesson was easy to follow. Keep up the good work.
The video brought back a lot of memories. I started using spreadsheets with Visicalc on an Apple II in the early 1980s. It was for work doing a lot of analysis & projections. I also dabbled with Multiplan & SuperCalc for the CP/M in Apple II. Lotus 1-2-3 was next on an IBM PC in 1985. In 1990, the company I was working for standardized to Excel & the rest of the MS Office apps.
Lately, I've been looking at the "free" office suites like Google's Office apps as well as open-source apps like Open Office. As an independent business consultant, the pricing plans of MS Office is just a bit much for me at the moment. I also want to have apps which can be used both for Windows & Mac. Yes, there's the free iWork apps for the Mac, but converting them to MS Office formats can sometimes result in loss of formatting &/or formula.
Thanks for the video & keep up the great work!
Thanks for all of this info.
I learned this all in high school, but haven't used it for 11+ years. The only thing I can't figure out, is how to print the spreadsheet with the gridline, so that I can write in some information with pencil when needed...? Any idea how to do this? In the print settings I HAVE clicked the show gridlines...but it still isn't printing the gridlines. Is there a different setting I should know of?
thank you so much! i have a direct sales business and am working on my taxes. can't wait to see what other tricks you can share with a new google sheets/docs/ etc user!
Spending my Sunday catching up on my RUclips channels... Steve, great tutorial. Thank you very much.
Great and simple ! Thanks
This is such a cool video. Great work as always Steve.
Very cool
I been using the spread sheet in Open office it works great as well .
Thank you for sharing Steve .
Landon
Cool way to explain things. I'm not an expert on spreadsheets but the first program for ss that i was exposed to was Lotus 123. I love that program. Specially programming it to do things.
Great introduction. I love your enthusiasm!
Need to learn sheets for a promotion at work. Thank you--this has helped greatly!!
Thank you so much for your videos! They are very informative and you have a charming way to teach us how to...
Great summary of Google Sheets which I've used for a while but you showed some areas/possibilities that are new as well. Keep it going. #StormingToOneMillion 😎
My first spreadsheet was Multiplan. Those were the days!!
I'm learning to use a spreadsheet to track my Ebay sales. I had pause your video a couple of times but I'll get the hang of it.
But you made it easy to understand.
👍
Lotus 123 was my first spreadsheet, also have fond memory's of using works for windows.
Nice video, thanks.
This was very easy to understand; thank you!!
Hi Steve, just getting started with Google Sheets. I've always been afraid of spreadsheets. I have made some using Excel, but I have to relearn every time because my experience wasn't a good one. I figured if I'm going to venture into the realm of something new, like Google Sheets, I'd learn from the best. My friend, Mr. Steve Dotto. As I expected your video was very helpful. I'll miss you in the next couple of Wednesdays. Safe travels!
Thanks so much! See you soon
Amazing a high quality video and you are an amazing host you kept me interested all the video just by saying how amazing the application is it was great Thanks!
very good tutorial
I absolutely love your videos. It's so easy to follow. I have one question. Can you assist me with making a monthly income and expense chart? Or do you have a video of this?
My first use of spreadsheets was with Microsoft Works Spreadsheet. I see not many people started there. I've used most of them since but never used visicalc.
Thanks for sharing . I understand very well
Thank you, right to the point!
Thank you Steve! Spreadsheets and I have never had a good relationship but now, we may get engaged.
My first "job" on a personal computer was on Lotus 123. I received a disc containing the software and a tutorial book from my college teacher. Oh and also he told me: "have fun". LOL
Supercalc on an Osborne computer. Even did a little MultiPlan on an Apple II. Then Lotus, Quattro, and Excel.
I used an osborne for a while.....heavy!
Hey Steve the first spreadsheet I use was Lotus 123 first in DOS 5, then the Windows 3.1 version. Next I moved onto Quattro Pro (when Borland used to own it, before selling to Novell, which in turn sold it as part of the WordPerfect Suite to Corel) It was't until I started working at Nortel that I started using Excel and still using this as my main spreadsheet program. Although after watching this video, I may give Google Sheets a try.
Great video Steve. Will definitely help me get more out of using Sheets. I was wondering about how to make charts only yesterday!
I have to find an accounting system as my present account system providers are going out of business. So I need to find a video of using google sheets which can list income and expenditure and put the items listed into respective categories - just simple cash accounting. Any links would be appreciated. This video is excellent and easy to follow.
Thanks for the very well done video. But, I must have missed why I should switch from Excel which I really have command of to using Google Sheets instead? What are my benefits?
I use to wonder that as well until I had to develop and convey checkbox attendance sheets that specific others could access and update from anywhere online.
A sheet is an online shareable document that defaults to view only (anyone with the link can view) unless you assign specific update privileges:
* anyone with the link can edit, or
* only specific assigned people can make updates
Thank you. This was an excellent video.
Excellent and and very informative as usual! Keep up the good work
Very helpful. Thank you!
Oh YES! I've been trying to understand Sheets and/or other spreadsheet how-to's & I have a mental block...Greek to me.....BUT with your video here & really think I can now get started. I , so far, have been able to use it just for lists, ex: things in the house or cities in my travels. Haven't gotten very involved with these lists yet but am trying to learn. Now with this video I'll be able to make a sheets doc for when our kid makes payments to us for...well, you know how it is....& now I'll be able to make it do the total for me as it goes along monthly...or whenever. I suppose there is a way to somehow show the initial amount given, when & dates of paybacks AND have it deduct from the total amount loaned/given. Thanks...I'm off now to give it a try. I will definitely check out your other videos on FORMs
I´d love an advance tutorial on google sheet, especially including the new explore functions!
Awesome video. Love your enthusiasm. Subbed.
Love watching you, Always love watching you from way back.I want to see you get to a million and beyond. One suggestion I would have, is to upgrade your camera, I watch you on a 27 inch monitor and the video quality is not there yet. Get a camera one step above what you think you need. Maybe consider 4K. Thanks for years of entertainment.
