Thank you! I've been looking for new options for my snapper. Had him a year and my 20 gal tank is just getting too small anymore. This gives me a great idea of which direction to go!
What do you do with the Turtle in Winter Time ?, can they handle the cold in the Turtle Pond ? if i remember you are in Georgia and i know winters can be harsh there.
@GregsTurtleHaven hello i recently saved 4 baby common snapping turtle hatchings i have everything i need for now till they get bigger my question to you is the stock tank doesn't it need like a overflow for if it rain and fills up i have not seen anyone talk about that in any set up video i have watched i was going to drill a few holes and put a screen or something over to only let water out if it gets to a certain hight? Any suggestions though.... Thank you for your time and big fan of the videos .
Hey Greg. You've built a nice channel. It seems you are quite involved like I was or have been. My time is back open, I can tell my story now ! I've got half the story told in my usfws and ga DNR videos. I'll post more on that too. I have another dozen turtle videos to upload in the next few weeks. Did you subscribe? I'm going to try to build the TTR for visitors and with cabins and field trips and float trips and what not.
Great setup. She is a very small turtle to be 15 years old at the time of this video, I have a one year old CST that I’ve had since a hatchling that’s about her size maybe a little bit smaller. This guy is growing uncontrollably I actually wouldn’t mind it capping off at the size of yours. I also don’t know what gender mine is yet, it’s still pretty difficult to tell
You can sink the tub into the ground, or build around it with landscape timber’s and fill with sand, or simply run a mild heater and bubbler. Where I live it does not get cold enough to freeze solid, just a thin sheet over the surface overnight
Chris Rockwell depending how thick that layer of ice is, and how long it stays frozen solid, I would potentially say to work your way there over the next couple years, gradually leaving it out longer. As the turtle gets used to the longer colder winter it will adjust and also as it grows the added mass will help it physically make it through that northern winter. I would definitely leave the setup to sit through winter and cycle until spring so it becomes a natural habitat for all the micro flora and fauna in there. Hope that’s helpful, thanks for watching!
I dont recommend using any sort of soap in any aquatic encloser. It can throw off the ph and will most deff kill any fish. Turtles are hearty but you still should only use warm water and a small amount of Vinegar.
You are the only person who has shown a cost effective way of making a good outside enclosure. I have a Florida soft shell so thank you!

Love that osceola and what you did with that stock tank! Hadn’t realized the size difference between common snappers and florida snappers!
It's amazing how much you've grown since this video. Been here since the beginning. 💯 I don't comment much, but I'm steady sharing your videos.
Your channel is so awesome!! I'm learning a lot! Underwater footage is awesome too, looks like a natural river. 🤙
Mark Joseph Escamillas thanks!!
@@GregsTurtleHaven one of my favorite video of yours. :) I'm getting my 3rd turtle, cst on Wednesday. Hope I can give it a cool tub like yours.
My daughter found a snapping turtle in 2010. He was slightly bigger than a 50 cent coin. Now he is a little bigger than yours.
LOL, Thats right down the road from my house!
Sweet setup! How often do you do water changes? Also how do you deal with mosquitoes with the tank being outside?
I am going to start building a alligator snapping turtle pond now thanks!
I also live in indiana so I will have to build an indoor one as well
I want to eventually build one for a common snapper using like a 300+ gallon stock tank then just letting him bru mate. I also live in indy
love your sulcata
Cool set up! I really love your videos. I’ll keep this in mind if I ever I decide to keep a snapping turtle as I pet.
Squatchy Herper thanks! There will be other videos on turtle setups for other species as well in the near future
good show 😎😎
nice man. really cool underwater footage. looking foward to see fish in there
Pedro yea, i ended up behind because of some electrical issues with the pump. After the water cycles around I’ll add some fish and update

Can you do a video on what a water change/filter change up looks like?
You should have a dry area for it to bask with a big piece of driftwood or whatever !!! 👍👍👍

You easily make the best stock tank setups
nice

Is there a pt two? Where you add filtration
Big old question here: how do I keep them outside in a tub year round. It gets cold here in the winter and I wouldn't want them to be frozen solid

@GregsTurtleHaven does she brumate over the winter in this?
With that gravel/ sand mixture, how do you do water changes?
at 7:37 you can see that this pond is running on windows 10 thats pretty cool i dont have a turtle pond yet but ill get windows 10 on mine :)
Haha amazing
What kind of pump and filter did you end up using?
I’m loving your videos, great content. Will you let your snapped brumate in this setup?
Daniel Hassell yes, this is a year round setup 👍🏼
Gregs Turtle Haven I’m in Nashville Tn and looking to set up some outdoor enclosures similar to yours. I love the naturalistic setup.
How big can she get? How does Florida snapper size compare with a common snapper? I'm thinking about get a snapper but one with manageable size.
would they choke on the gravel?
Nice man 👍 basically the same setup I have for my seven inch Ally snapper you think I could leave him out over winter being from Easton Maryland?

we need to change water every week?
Do you ever provide her access to a nesting site?
Did you end up adding a water filter ?
Hi new frienddd.
ปังปอนด์ เจ้าสําราญ sawatdee kaap!!
Do you normally keep it that shallow?
That was when I first set it up, and I allowed for it to naturally fill with rainwater, which has a better ph
what are the plants called?
Water Hyacinth- they'll die in winter but come back from the dead underwater plants and grow back
I watched this video 50 times I can't understand what kinda Moss you use... At the bottom of your Tub... Please let me know thank you
Edward Tomaszewski sphagnum
Thank you very much.. I'll look it up right now...👍👍👍
Cost effective ?! Does that mean cheaper ?!
Awesome you might want to put in a log in cash she want to come out the water to soak up the sun
Way too much gravel
Here's a thought: save yourself the trouble of having to re-create nature by leaving the turtles where they belong -- in nature.
My turtles were captive bred, as “pets”, not taken from the wild 👍🏼
