Congratulations, Zack! You're the first reviewer that actually knows why the CD player is in a high-end audio unit like Mark Levinson . . big, beautiful, UNCOMPRESSED music. Its been so frustrating, having to listen to the knuckle-dragging comments from other reviewers about the only people who care about CDs are just wanting to listen to old hair-metal bands while combing their mullets. Until uncompressed audio files are widely used, CDs are the best audio format for people who care about quality audio. Don't argue with Mark Levinson, folks.

Had a 2018 450hL... wife LOVED it. Was impressed by almost everything except the sound of the gas engine (actually I think it was a vibration in the exhaust... dealer never figured it out). Decided to sell it at the beginning of the pandemic as we had 4 cars in the driveway and only one was actually useful... the RX was the newer one with the most value, so it was sacrificed "for the time being". Been 2 years and we still miss it. Let's hope the next electric RX be even better than this one is.

The Lexus RX is popular for a reason. I love the colour combination on your test vehicle. I think Lexus’s biggest challenge will be to recapture (capitalize) their original customers, who are less tech savvy and yearn for vehicles with more traditional controls and design. Their original clients were older and made safer investments with their (retirement) savings. The stats from Carmax 2018 suggests that they rank 3rd (at 44.8) for oldest average owner base, only Buick and Cadillac were older. Stats by IHS Global insight from a few years earlier (2009) had them in 2nd at 56! (Buick was approaching 70). Lexus is losing those older people wanting to upgrade from their relatively simple Camry/Avalon... which maybe other brands may capitalize on (Genesis/Lincoln/Cadillac/VW). The trackpad on the RX is one of the reasons my Mother will not buy a Lexus (originally, that haptic feedback mouse) and went to Subaru. That and the over the top styling. I like the RX, I just don’t prefer hybrids (as more of my drives are distance, than are inner city), especially at nearly $75,000! Thanks for the video.

I love the exterior/interior colour combination. Wish we could have got the combo with our 2021 Venza. You recently did a similar colour combo with the Forester. Hope green exterior and tan interiors are getting more popular. I'm so tired of black, white and grey being virtually the only colours on the street. We were at least able to get a dark blue exterior and grey interior with the Venza.

I own a lexus GS350 fsport and I had to get it serviced. I had a chance to drive The RX350 and a 2021 NX. The one thing I noticed is that the RX even though luxurious was like driving a bus. The NX felt more fun to drive and nimble and this was the old nx mind you. I love my GS which is a combination of performance and luxury. My personal preference is, I don't like a truck too large of a vehicle feeling. I want a hybrid, nimbleness, refinement all in one package, thats why I would choose the new NX hybrid only because I already have the GS. If I didn't, then I would have to think about it.

My 2010 RX350 is five inches shorter than the fourth-Gen 2016-2022 RX, and the cargo area in my RX feels as spacious or possibly even bigger. The load height is also lower in my RX than the current one! As much as I have liked the look of the fourth Gen RX, when it comes to SUVs, I don’t really like if they’re longer than 188 inches. Maybe that’s just me. And, yes, I love the zen feel when I’m driving my RX, I’ve had it since brand new, so 11 years, and it’s so nice to take on a road trip! Also, remember, the RX has always been considered a midsized SUV and, of course, the NX is a compact SUV

I dont like fatty fingerprints on glossy touchpanels 😂 ...that´s not luxury, that´s cheap junkfood 🤣. btw, ours was available with a real sunroof to let fresh air in and real corner lights which move depoending on steering angle and speed ! The 2015-2022 RX only have simple ON/OFF corner lights like a Hyundai or KIA.

How did you know people would be cross shopping? I put in a deposit for a Rav Prime. The wait gives me time to look at other choices.
The price of the Rav Prime, and the NX450h+ begs us to cross shop with the RX. You get so much in the RX even if it's nearing the end of its cycle. Also, easier to get one vs the other 2.
As for the head unit, it's a good compromise. As I don't do Sirius, I'll probably live in the Android Auto screen. They did allow Android Auto and Apple Carplay when they "updated" to allow touch screen.
Lastly thanks for the watcher questions, those would be my queries also.
Keep it up guys, I'm a fan.

Fun watching reviews of cars you own. We are buying our 2018 at lease end next month, the residual was only 26.5 USD. Going to drive it until we get to see the next gen. 100% agree on the infotainment, such a bummer for this otherwise great car imo. Our 18' has the mouse & no carplay/aa. An interesting thing I'm not a big fan of on the new NX is there's no spare tire, and the run flats take away from the quiet ride Lexus is known for. I really hope they don't do this on the RX redesign.

More concerned about the ride......we like what Zack said concerning the luxury end of this vehicle. So my question is...which one? NX or RX? Thank you for just being you......awesome!

    • @ln5747
      @ln5747 Год назад

The infotainment is fine once you get used to it. On the hand my 70s year old father struggles with it (his car) because it's clunky but honestly all most use is the radio and climate control. And Carplay. Radio is easy once you get used to it and gave presets. Heating actually looks harder in the new vehicle with almost all touch screen. 22 you have physical buttons for all the heating. Carplay is perfectly fine on 22 aside from not being wireless but I believe you can buy an adapter. I think if it was me getting one as a younger person I'd still go with the 22 and save the money, it's pretty much got all you need and you'll work out the infotainment.

The RX interior seems outdated and updated at the same time. That moment when its parent company Toyota makes more updated cars, especially the 2022 Venza; it's basically the RX and its interior is so much more modern and subjectively attractive. Back to the RX: the acceleration is not as fast compared to its gas models competitors like the MDX and GV80. As for the infotainment system, we have to pay extra to get a bigger size when the other two mentioned vehicles have larger sizes as standard. The cargo capacity in those cars is also bigger. Nonetheless, the RX gets the job done especially with the quiet cabin noise and long-term engine reliability. Great review you two!

@Hugh M. Thank you for the insights! I agree with you that Toyota is focusing more on their products rather than their luxury line, Lexus. Lots of consumers are buying either the MDX or the Genesis now because the RX line has aged. The interior is outdated and the engine has slow acceleration even if you upgrade to the F sport trim; it’s still not that much faster than the regular trim. Also, you could get most amenities as standard for cheaper price with the MDX and Genesis.

Interesting that you hate the track pad. I love it! I have NO problem using it, so I can’t understand the haters’ problem with it. I have the 2022 RX450H F Sport and am thoroughly enjoying it. I love that it has the 6 cylinder gas engine rather than the little 4 banger that the 2023 RX line has. My opinion is that Lexus took a step backward with the decision to offer only 4 cylinder models in the RX. It is the same engine that is in the newly designed NX. The RX is bigger and heavier than the NX. Makes no sense to eliminate the 6 cylinder for the RX. Just my personal opinion and choice.

Oh one more thing about the cd player. The reason someone would get the ML is for love of refined sound. That's why you have CDs. Some people could care less. They would be happy listening to the Beatles in an elevator. The other thing you could use, which I do is to be a subsciber to amazon music HD and listen to or even download hi res audio to your phone, and now we are talking. Much better use of the Mark Levinson system when you do either one of those things.

That thing is a disaster…The biggest upside is a V-6 NON turbo with the hybrid engine. Big fan. Also, not sure why Lexus puts a pano SUN roof vice just a glass roof. I know no one who drives luxury vehicles that open their moonroofs…the heated steering wheel is a bummer. My RAV4 Prime has the heated steering wheel at 9 and 3 only and it’s jarring when you move your hands around in the cold. The new NX has a full heated steering wheel. I’ll pass until they update the infotainment…I had the MDX with its maddening infotainment system and we wound up getting rid of it before the lease was up and lost $$, but I didn’t care it was so bad…

I traded in my fun to drive 2018 Audi A7 Prestige for the 2022 Lexus RX350. Why?. The cost of ownership and reliability of the Lexus is far more important to me and the dealership is not snooty. The dealership experience in Canada may be different but the drama and cost associated with most European made cars in the States is far less appealing to me than the comfort, dependability and reliability of the Lexus RX.
The touch screen and CD player frankly shouldn't matter to most buyers in my view. Finally, if you trade your vehicle prior to the warranty expiration, then my comments don't matter. I look at the 2022 RX as possibly my last gasoline vehicle depending on the future of hydrogen and battery based alternative vehicles. Thanks for your review.

This is a smooth, almost lazy/relaxed drivers car.
Is not meant to be sporty.
The interior layout is very much researched and is popular with the cars demographic.
Build quality is very good and it's a very relaxing car to drive and to be driven in.
The trunk is not the biggest, but if you need to move a load of crap around then buy a van.
Comfort, refined driving, that suits its preferred demographic.

Have a deposit on the NX 350h but after watching a recent review I realized it doesn’t even have a spare tire! Really?! The technology also seems very excessive but I’m so used to my 2006 Infiniti I guess. Considering whether or not to stick with the NX or wait it out a couple years for an updated RX.

Is that *"SEND IT!"* comment a reference to Raiti's Rides and the *"ON THROTTLE!"* portion of his reviews? LOL! For the record, I love his channel (best walkarounds on RUclips) and yours (best reviews for people who drive "normally"). And I 100% agree with the comment, I never quite understood the obsession by car reviewers with 0-60 times and top speed when probably only 2% of people actually floor it from a dead stop on a regular basis. 98% of people are normal, responsible drivers more interested in interior noise, convenience, comfort, etc. I noticed at a young (pre-Internet) age that magazines like Car & Driver, Automobile, Motor Trend all had BMWs at the top of every list, every year and assumed tight driving was the best driving. But then in my 20s I got into the auto industry and drove pretty much every make and model of car and found that..."you know what? BMWs are fun but: comfort, fuel economy, value...thats what really counts." Consequently, I'll take a Lexus or Cadillac over BMW any day."

i don't understanding the statement at 14:40 mark that you can order base trim and get just the options you want. Every dealer I talk to down here says they get whatever trims + packages/options configuration allocations they get based on what Lexus sends them. In other words you can't walk into any Lexus dealer and create an ala cart configuration order.

The ml just wasn’t reliable at all especially when the warranty go out. On top of that the RX drives really comfortable, great quality and amazing fuel economy(7.7l/100km from daily driving in Vancouver). Probably would expect much better resale value and long time reliability. Would highly recommend this car to anyone.

all i can tell you is that mine 2010 with nearly 300000km on it passed the Hybrid test and fuel consumption is still as it should be. Only thing which you should take notice is the small battery 12v in the back for starting up the Hybrid system. Change that every 5 years or so. And the spark plugs are a pain in the ass to change and cost a bit more; fortunately they have´nt to replace often. 180000km or so. Waterpump is a bit on the weak side but not so expensive.
