I have no idea how i stumbled on your channel (a while ago), but so happy I did. Your videos are just so full of joy and edited so well. This series has been especially great. Love it!
Happy to see you and Will back together because you guys are what makes videos like this amazing. True passion between two friends and the excitement they bring is just incredible energy.
I now know how my Dad felt going to the Movies as a kid and watching the serials like FLASH GORDON and THE LONE RANGER. You would watch the current chapter maybe once or twice and had to WAIT A WHOLE WEEK for the next installment. There may be ways to see them all sooner but then that would ruin the fun of the anticipation. I have currently moved back home to help take care of my Mother. She is 87 and needs just a little help. Waiting for the next Downie Live train adventure helps the time pass and things don't seem so bad. Thanks For Bringing Us Along.
May you have all thar you desire in life for being such a good kid and taking care of your mother. I know it's difficult as I did the same a few years ago.
Mike, thanks for bringing us along on your travels. You’ve made me want to book a trip across the country on a train and try some of the unique trips you’ve shown us.
I've lived in Colorado since 2009 I once rode the Pikes Peak rail when I was younger and I grew up a few hours from Durango these latest episodes seem to all be in my backyard. Great episode Mike!
I found this channel a few weeks ago at the beginning of your journey, and I have to say this is the most fun I've had on youtube in years! I'm writing stuff down, researching the places you're going, and making my own bucket list! What a great series! Keep it up!
You can sure see on your faces what a blast that was! I love this series because I have never heard of most of these trains! Thanks for taking us along on this adventure Michael!
Downie I have loved watching this series of different trains across America, I live in England and watching your video vlogs makes me feel like I’m travelling with you, your parents and friends. I loved the videos with your parents your dad reminded me of my granddad and your mum is like my mum was before she got really sick and is now in a care home. Keep up the travelling and the blogs
I've been watching alot of your videos and am currently working on the Across America series. I wanted to say that you are an extremely kind and generous person. I love the way you enjoy your mom and dad on your journeys
So happy to see a fellow Canadian Sharing a passion for trains in very entertaining way. I didn’t know that America’s highest railway was locomotive hauled. A few decades ago they used a pair of DMUs. The colours of these units are very Swiss looking too similar to the RhB railway
I have not travelled much by train but now I need to definitely plan more train trips. This episode as well as the prior train series ones are simply mesmerizing. 💯 ✅
The Pikes Peak Railway was one of my favorite trips when I went to Colorado. I wish you had the chance to make it to the top because there’s an awesome visitors center where they sell donuts. At least you two had a chance to drive up the mountain! Also, please make sure you buy cans of oxygen for the train. They sell them all over Colorado, particularly at Walmart, you definitely need it for the railway and higher altitudes in Colorado!
We live in Colorado Springs and we ride the Cog Train to the summit at least once a year whenever visitors are here too. It is always as exciting asthe1st ride. Fall asleep coming back down every time too. You make the most enticing and educational videos we have ever watched. Thank you Mr. Downie Live.
Most excellent, especially so with Will Edmond! (such wonderful infectious enthusiasm when y'all collaborate). The Cog is a great ride, a fave of mine; looking forward to the Durango SIlverton trip (tho I prefer the vistas of Chama)
@@DownieLive Will is so cool , does he have his own channel ? Also I believe you mentioned he is a US citizen. Just curious how you guys meet. He make your videos so much more. thanx BT
It's good to see Mike and Will together, again. Usually, I want to be with you ... however, I'm terrified of driving "switchbacks," so this was a great chance to see the summit.
I haven't finished watching yet, but this episode is awesome! It's so nice to see you and your friend Will having a good time. Enjoying the views, the history and the company. That's what it's all about. I'm already looking forward to the next episode.
Great episode! I rode the Cog Railroad once years ago. It was clear all the way up, then completely clouded over during the 45 minutes we had to be at the summit before the train started its trip back, so no views from the top. I was also light-headed up there, but they told us to drink lots of water which definitely helped. So my time at the summit consisted of visiting the rest room and buying water at the cafeteria. The clouds cleared for a beautiful descent down. The views were amazing going up and coming down, with mountain lakes and the occasional "whistle pig" (yellow bellied marmot) along the way. Michael is right, Manitou Sprints is very charming and the Broadmoor is beautiful. We visited the Broadmoor for breakfast one morning and then walked around the grounds - much cheaper than staying there.
I go to manitou all the time, love the area, glad to see you feature it. My dad was even in a movie filmed in Old Colorado City which is next to Manitou. For those curious, its Pools of Anger (1993)
Thank you for the trip to the top of Pike's Peak! Of all the many times I have traveled to Colorado, I have never been up there. You are really in for a treat on the Durango to Silverton train trip. I have traveled on that train multiple times, starting when I was about 10 or 11, in the 1950's (I am now 80). I was with my Grandmother the first time and the last time I took my 30 year old Grandson in 2015. I have ridden many trains in my day and the Durango/Silverton is by far the most scenic and well worth the time. I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I did the 7 or 8 times I have ridden it.
Great vlog Mike. I love the Broadmore Hotel and the Cog Rail is pretty awesome as well. The thin air is something else. Such a cool trip, thanks for taking us along with you.
- American cog railway - riding a trainset ordered from and made by Stadler Rail in Switzerland - on rails ordered from Poland *Mr. Worldwide* The idea for this railroad came in 1888 after a trip to the summit by inventor Zalmon G. Simmons. Simmons had designed a wooden telegraph insulator while on the board of directors of Western Union, and was surveying Englemann Canyon for telegraph lines to the top of Pikes Peak. It was a miserable two-day trip on a mule and after his return, Simmons was convinced that there needed to be a more "civilized" mode of travel to the summit of Pikes Peak and decided to fund the construction of a railway

Thank you for the car ride up. My mother and grandmother took me on those ride almost 50 years ago. This is very nostalgic for me. I wasn't expecting to be so moved. I miss them so much.
Writing from Australia, the island Continent. Late to the channel, but it's interesting reading comments from people who have never or rarely travelled by train, whereas for most of my life I've tended to travel by train in preference to flying or driving or as an alternative, flying to my destination then using trains, rarely or never driving as my means of transport when I get there. However I did have to drive from Denver to Manitou. Mike you have facilitated a lot of rail travel for these folks and that's a good thing. Did this railway in 2008. Nice to see a new train here now.
Great job, Mike!! Awesome content!! Each week gets better and better on exploring these magnificent trains!! Always enjoy seeing Will back for another adventure!! :)
Great experience! The trip was awesome from the scenery, hotel, the railway and then the drive to the peak. As always I like the knowledge you place in each video. Thank you for the invite on the trip!
Hi Mike….loved yours and Will’s trip to Pikes Peak…..rode the train maybe 20 years ago, along with the Durango & Silverton in the same trip….glad they bought new equipment and that it’s still going! Look forward to next week….
Love this! I rode the Cog in 2008 and my then 3 year old quietly laid on the ground once we reached the top from lack of oxygen! Luckily the gift shop pumps extra oxygen 😅! We were living in CO Springs at the time but she wasn’t ready for the thin air at the top. I’ve never been in the Broadmoor so that was fun to see. Thanks for the great content!
That hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Was it insanely expensive? 🤑 That's the second time that you couldn't get all the way to the top! 😟 I'm lovin' your train journey. I'm so glad you're sharing it with the rest of it! THANKS! 🥰
Love that you guys did this, I was hoping you would on this series. I lived in Colorado Springs from 1986 to 2020. Made me very homesick. Spent a lot of time in Manitou, and the last time I drove up the Peak was in a radio station van to check a signal for a remote broadcast lol.

Hey Mike, I'm Mike and just wanted to say I really enjoyed the videos with your mom and dad, I can see were you get your awesome personality from. Can't wait for the next video Thanks again, Mike
All three in one day. How cool. I rode the cog railway as a kid on vacation. I have since driven up Pike's Peak in the last 10 years. Driving it is most definitely a scarier situation. I can't wait to see the next few adventures with your buddy.
I love all these unique trains. It's great you're including so many side trips in this series. When you announced it I thought it was going to be a diagonal trip north with a few train changes here and there. This is so much more.
That was a great video so nice for you to introduce us to your friends. You guys make awesome videos together would love to see you both together again. That was awesome seeing other trains like the plow and the different things the guy shared with you. Thanks so much can't wait till the next video. The scenes and shots of nature were awesome
I'm so happy you all decided to drive up to the summit of Pikes Peak, We missed the train 15 yrs ago when my family and I visit Pikes Peak , so we drove and it was awesome ,enjoy the journey🇬🇾🇺🇲❤
Amazing views. Reminds me of when I was a child ,traveling the train with my mother. She woke me up at 5 a.m. to view the rocky mountains ,what we could see. I loved it! 😍
Great video! We lived in Colorado Springs back in our younger days and loved Manitiou Springs! (It's totally different now!) I am scared of going up the side of a mountain so we never went up by car BUT did take our grandson on the cog railroad and had a blast. I bought a can of oxygen (that I used) before we went up to the tops. The new visitor center was very nice!
Glad you decided to drive to the summit since the Cog Railroad couldn't. I did the Cog Railroad there in 2014 and got to the summit. Cars definitely look more modern. I'm a fan of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Imagine racing to the summit up that road!
When your in silverton. Go across the street and climb up the hill to the old mine. Great chill spot and a good hike. Also look up the story of the two silverton men who owned a shop and completely disappeared.
I can’t wait for the next video DowniwLive!🎉 I get so excited became a member! I’ve got on trains in other countries not in the us other than the Brightline! 😊
I Swear this series is just going right through everywhere I've been or lived. I made that same drive nearly 20 years ago and its just as breathtaking (pun intended) in 2022 as it was then.
I got to ride this train for my 14th birthday and the views were absolutely incredible! Our conductor for the trip was a really great and funny guy and I really hope you got to meet him on your journey up the mountain! This railway truly is a one of a kind experience!
Hiked Pike's Peak (and a bunch of others) back in the summer of 1991. It was amazingly beautiful (we even walked through a cloud). I'm creating a travel bucket list for my kiddo and I (to take after I win the lottery). Thank you for sharing your adventures and experiences with all of us!
Been on all 3 of those trains, the Grand Canyon Railroad is a great ride during the Christmas season as the do the Polar Express Experience. Glad you enjoyed the West!
The fact such a beautiful and important railway was almost destroyed in favor of cars...I'm glad Spencer came to his senses and decided to let the highway and railway coexist because this rail really is unique and provides spectacular views just as much as the highway does. And it's nice to have two options, especially when you can't reach the summit on one. Fun fact, there used to be a funicular in the same area too called the Manitou Incline that opened in 1907 and operated under the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Got some bad luck though. First the original summit house was burned down in 1914 and had to be rebuilt, which the rebuilt one was replaced in 1958, but if that wasn't enough...it had to shut down PERMANENTLY in 1990 because of a rockslide that washed out the rail bed and it was just too costly to fix. It is now a popular hiking trail.
Such a joy to watch, great job Mike and Will! Really feels like I'm there when I watch these videos, and love the history shared. I'm off to watch the next video and smiling away😄
Though I don't live there currently, I'm from Colorado... and I always forget just how many cool things there are to do there! It's been years since I've ridden the D&S or gone to Pike's Peak. And I love Manitou.... I have family members there that run some of the businesses in town... Garden of the Gods is another great attraction near Manitou. Can't wait for the next installment!
Hey Mike another great video buddy.. ever thought about doing a meet and greet tour? Maybe Bounce from one Union Station to the next and meet your fans... Just a thought, it would be fun to watch!

Michael (and his awesome friends) have single-handedly done more good for these railroads than their marketing departments could ever dream.
Soooo true…..
Plot Twist: they are the marketing department.
I totally agree
😂😂
Quite possibly, but only if CSX and the other freight lines would keep the rails better maintained and share them more consistently, you would be onto something there. I ride CSX rails multiple times weekly going into and out of DC and the rails get very sad in several stretches where we stop, switch tracks or slow to a crawl. Sometimes the 45-minute commute takes two hours. Compared to Europe's train system, we suck.

Thank you for more Colorado!! Lived there many years and miss it so much!! Love your adventures and cannot wait for the next segment
More to come!
Hey Mike, I'm Mike and just wanted to say I really enjoyed the videos with your mom and dad, I can see were you get your awesome personality from. Can't wait for the next video
Thanks again,
Mike
All three in one day. How cool. I rode the cog railway as a kid on vacation. I have since driven up Pike's Peak in the last 10 years. Driving it is most definitely a scarier situation. I can't wait to see the next few adventures with your buddy.
I love all these unique trains. It's great you're including so many side trips in this series. When you announced it I thought it was going to be a diagonal trip north with a few train changes here and there. This is so much more.
Glad you enjoy it!
Very entertaining fun to Watch I'm so obsessed, I of to watch ithe episodes them over and over again ,t can you make it a little longer
I loved it! 😍
I’m so exited, I’ve watched your videos for years and can’t wait for some more amazing content
More to come!
Love ❤️ being with you on all these trains! Thank you!!!
My pleasure!!
Love the video man can't wait for the next one 😊
Another great video my brother. Pretty damn cool 💪🏼💪🏼
When your in silverton. Go across the street and climb up the hill to the old mine. Great chill spot and a good hike. Also look up the story of the two silverton men who owned a shop and completely disappeared.
Thanks!
I can’t wait for the next video DowniwLive!🎉 I get so excited became a member! I’ve got on trains in other countries not in the us other than the Brightline! 😊
That is awesome! Welcome aboard, Cecilia!
More adventures with Will, looking forward to next week
I can't believe there's a race on the Pikes Peak Highway every year. So badass.
Sounds great! I hope you win!
Been on all 3 of those trains, the Grand Canyon Railroad is a great ride during the Christmas season as the do the Polar Express Experience. Glad you enjoyed the West!
Very cool!
These videos make my day each time!! Thanks Mike!!
Such a joy to watch, great job Mike and Will! Really feels like I'm there when I watch these videos, and love the history shared. I'm off to watch the next video and smiling away😄
Glad you enjoyed it
Mike, watching your videos brings a smile to my face! Your attitude is infectious.
This video makes me so happy, especially since you did it for your friend and how happy he was.

Best RUclipsr ever been watching him for a while and he’s amazing team Donnie for life 🤟🏾
I can’t wait to see part two of your train ride from Miami to Alaska!😊
Though I don't live there currently, I'm from Colorado... and I always forget just how many cool things there are to do there! It's been years since I've ridden the D&S or gone to Pike's Peak. And I love Manitou.... I have family members there that run some of the businesses in town... Garden of the Gods is another great attraction near Manitou. Can't wait for the next installment!
Hey Mike another great video buddy.. ever thought about doing a meet and greet tour? Maybe Bounce from one Union Station to the next and meet your fans... Just a thought, it would be fun to watch!
