    I love how no one mentions the minor details in the GBA levels that weren't in the SNES original (lizards and frogs in jungle levels; bats, rats and spiders in the caves and mines; etc.)

    The GBA version is best viewed on a GBA SP - the backlight really does help. I’ll still prefer the SNES version for its more atmospheric sound and graphics though.

    People bashing the GBA port just because of the worse graphics don't understand the purpose of a portable port, I share many of the same complaints but I can appreciate how playable it still is in portable form
    It's just the old curse of Nintendo commissioning remakes for their portable systems instead of home console ones.
    Fantastic video, I appreciate all the effort that went into comparing these so much

    You put so much effort to gather all little details between the games, even far enough to level design differences.
    This is why I love your channel! No other channel on the internet would do such a in-depth comparison for ANY game!
    Can't wait for a DKC2 video. I don't care if it takes months or years, as long it's as good as all your other videos. (And of course, it will be, because you rock!)

    It always astounds me that the SNES-to-GBA ports were of such bizarre quality. Over the years people were able to restore colors and remove voices from the GBA Mario games to make them more like the SNES versions so you can enjoy the new content, but _gawd_ what happened with the ports here? Sure, the sound takes a hit in all of these, but it's like nearly everything about the original versions was compromised with the DKC ports.

      EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING.
      Seriously, it would be easier to point out what's been kept and scrunched down for the GBC. Whole new map, whole new levels, entire new sound tracks (even the one that seems to be Gangplank Galleon goes off to do its own thing). I can also definitely say that the mechanics are different, having hit a difficulty curve from completing Country and then tackling Land only to find a whole new game with DK and Diddy.

    I think the SNES version is by far superior on almost anything. The only reason to grab de GBA version of all DKC games is the extra content. Just like it was many years later with WII and 3DS DK country returns versions. I will try to grab all the versions if possible. I just realized that ALMOST all the DK games haved an upgraded version (DKC trilogy on SNES, then in GBA ; DK Jungle Beat on GC then on WII; DKC Returns on WIi, then on 3DS; Finally DKC Tropical Freeze on WiiU, then on Switch... the only games never upgraded, as far I know, were DK 64 and the rest of spin offs (DK Barrel Blast on wii, DK King of Swing on GBA and the DK Konga series on GC)

      Only problem, well, more of a nit pick... A few pre-rendered character sprites look like garbage on GBA. I’m just giving my opinion on dkc 1 because the video is so long. The music and sounds in the SNES version have a higher quality but a LOT of the GBA sound effects are just better. Some of the SNES sound effects sound like someone waving construction paper while the music in the GBA version sounds like they had to use 15 potatos to get it running. Overall both versions are pretty good in my eyes but the SNES version is obviously better because it’s on a console. P.S. Whats up with the random speed changes between the versions. Some animations are really fast and others are really slow in one and in the other it’s the opposite.

    Seriously, I found the SNES version pretty frustrating at times.
    I played both GBA and SNES and oh boy I'll take the GBA version any day.
    DKC2 is great on both but more on SNES (GBA added some stuff that was a bit unnecessary and made the ending a bit stupid).
    It's also the best game in the series IMO.
    DKC3 definitely on SNES.
    The GBA version has awful minigames and a mediocre new world.
    The new soundtrack is amazing but is like, misplaced?

    Oh and the sound effects sound misplaced too, it's annoying.

      Overall it seems way more stable in some of the balancing choices they made. I like the more defined definition of what the bonus rooms are in the GBA version, it leaves you guessing less on what you actually need to do to get over 100% in that version.
      While I'm not fond of some of the glitches being removed, I don't hold it against them for polishing the game up as well as they did though. They also gave it a less desolate atmosphere by adding more landmarks and movement in the overworld and putting more wild life in the levels. they also added a lot of content that wasn't in the Snes version which is a great improvement IMO.

    GBA version looks horrible, and it's strange considering that the GBA is supposedly a more powerful console (being that it's 32 bit whereas SNES is 16) perhaps the SNES is more powerful in different factors.
    Still it's surprising how bad the GBA port looks, it's awful.

    • @elsheddars3918
      @elsheddars3918 5 лет назад +1

      Gbc port was better, and the GBA can display SNES graphics, a SNES emu for gba prooves that.
      And can handle 3D graphics like the PS1 and his warping textures, i think they not have the right tools for develop a game at that time, the Nintendo DS is a GBA but more cappable.
      What really dissapoint me is the music chip, the GB sounds like a NES but in his way and have a nice quality sounds, but GBA sounds really cheap compared to the GB, and the low Hz don't help just make it worst.
      A screen with no light and a lot of colors is really bad
      The cartridge space, like the N64 the cartridge space don't help to develop a game because of his limitations

    • @DespyCL
      @DespyCL 5 лет назад +7

      The GBA is indeed more powerful than a snes. Then, what happened here? Simple: Redoing the game from scratch (that means replicating everything, since no source code was found at the time), reducing the sprites size due to the gba screen resolution and finally, washing out the colors due to the original gba model not having a backlight.

      @@elsheddars3918 Hmm, yes and no. Sure, they remade a whole snes game on a inferioir hardware, but it was kind of a lazy port if you ask me. They reused a lot of music and sound effects from donkey kong land. Im not sure if they reused the same engine, since the physics are very different to the ones from dkl. Still, it's a nice little version.

    I dont care what anyone say the GBA version had better music, better funky plane theme, better DK ground slap, better enemy death sounds, candy's dance studio and fishing something to do to take your mind off the hard levels unless your a good ol rage quitter, hell it even has context of the story and tips in game whenever you need it. The only thing SNES has to offer is its Intro and graphics despite it being dark as shit. Other than that there exactly the same game, both play smooth and every level is the same.

      Also some of the tracks are better in the Remake. Also the visibility is better than the original. And the save feature was improved.

    I don't like the cartoony visual/sound effects they added in the GBA version.. The Donkey Kong Country series must be realistic, simple, and atmospheric.
    I've been disappointed by any Donkey Kong related games since DK64 for the same reason.
