The Mount of Temptation is the supposed location of part of the Temptation of Jesus described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke in the New Testament, during which the Devil took Jesus to a "high mountain" and offered him rule over all the kingdoms of the world.
After Jesus was baptized, he journeyed into the wilderness for forty days and was tempted by the Devil. Turning stones into bread, bowing to Satan, and putting God to the test were the three temptations with which the Evil One thought he could win over Jesus.
The Mount of Temptation rises up out of the Judean Desert 3km northwestern of Jericho in the West Bank not far from the Dead Sea. At the foot of the mount palm trees and lush vegetation grow and the yellow and orange-hued mountain slopes rise 360 meters above sea level.
