We actually never planned to film this video, but after recording Napom's GBB23 wildcard we talked a little and ended up with this first episode of Out of The Box :) It was an unstructured free flow conversation, but we hope you find some inspiration in Napom's story, experiences and thoughts on originality!
Thanks for watching, let us know what you think

The best way I can sum up what Napom was saying is that people need to remember that beatboxing is more an art-form than a sport. The competitive aspect is amazing and is what drew me in to start beatboxing, but the musical side needs to be appreciated. I think it’s his best advice

I like how this episode dives into originality and being creative. Babeli has done the same flow and his hollow clop beat has been done so many times but it's only him that does his style. Sometimes I dislike new school beatboxing because I hear some people freestyle all the time with so many different flows and patterns with the most amount of sounds.

this point of relating your beatbox tracks to your character is very interesting....all the top beatboxers have their tracks in such a way that their tracks represent their character - Alexinho has this goofy beats just like him, napom hardcore and jumpy, alem fast boom boom....their characters are associated to their tracks.....but modern beatboxers are just like - DO THE BEST BEAT and not be themseleves

Request for future editions of this: Please inquire after stories inside the community that only the interviewee would have access to, rather than general advice- while that advice means a lot coming from someone as accomplished as Napom, it's also something that can be derived (and is) from other sources. It would have been nice to hear things like "Was Kenny Urban planning to act a fool at the China battle when he mc'd, or did that come as a surprise to everyone?" or "What were some of the funny/outlandish events behind the scenes at various championships?" or even industry talk like "What collabs/recordings do you have in the works or would like to have in order to raise your profile and bring more beatboxing to a mainstream audience?" The interview wasn't bad here, I'm not saying that, but part of making a great and memorable interview is drawing out information that can't be found anywhere else. Regardless, thanks for everything! Hope you do more of these and keep growing your success 🖖

    Napom is soo right.
I used to be into the meta when it was not all over the place.
But rescent years, I lost interest on those combos and special sounds. Most of the meta beatboxers are not getting there. If you cover the screen, you won't be willing to listen to it even once.
And I think the meta is getting more and more Involved. Not too much invention that is necessarily good for listeners. The meta is just getting better at aggression and catching fire. Like cmon, spaming 2 notes using the exact same old technique that shared by 80% of your opponents isn't that interesting. Or spamming inward bass together with some random shit doesn't make whole lot of sense.
After all these year's following, I am getting tired at these stuff.
Hope the scene can grow into a listenable direction rather than 99% of GBB/Beatbox Community competitors sharing the same aggressive style in 2077.
