I've made a few of these. I highly suggest using cedar instead of pine, as it is way more rot and bug resistant. Great video!

What I have done in the past is add a few support cross pieces on the bottom (same as Wes did but only about 1.5" wide so there's more room between the cross pieces) and overtop of that I will use galvanized wire (1/4" squares), nail down with crown staples, then add a layer of weed barrier to prevent soil from getting out. I also add plastic down the sides and overlap it onto the weed barrier. This method prevents soil/water contact with the wood.

Thanks Wes! I've been planning some boxes just like this but having your pattern relieves me of hours of planning and screwups (figuratively speaking, lol). I think before assembly I'll line the sides of the box with heavy duty plastic and make the bottom a removable tray for easy replacement in future. Old gardener here, tired of rebuilding stuff every 5 years!

Looks good! Anyone else nervous about the hand position whilst using the nail gun? 😅

When your educated about the length of the nail/screw it’s not an issue. Your comment shows you need a mentor!

@@mike1968442 Your comments are very unfair! We are all here to learn. Instead of smacking the guy in the chops with a smartass remark, why not try and help him and others who might like to know.
Wes, I hope you see this comment. If so, I can tell you that you have opened my eyes to the usefulness of the nail gun. I would like to see a video on the use of the nail gun and the safety, settings, and maintenance of these tools and the various products (nails, staples, etc.) and how they are used. Thanks, Wes I appreciate your efforts in producing your videos!

@@mike1968442 I’m on the journey. :) Would love a mentor. I’ve seen some nasty pics where nail guns go wrong. I have a 18 gauge but haven’t had many projects I’ve needed it so far.

I have made a video showing the different nail guns I use in my work, but perhaps one with more detail would serve a purpose. It's on the list 😀 thanks, Wes

Nice. And simple to build. My material would have been cedar rather than pine.

I agree cedar is the way to go adds to the cost but will last a long time i also put a shelf on the bottom to add to the design

Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy watching your techniques. I’ve built a few of these planter boxes using fence pickets. I like the way they weather. I add a little extra decoration to each planter. It seems people like Texas stars in my area. So I add some to the box. Thanks again

Great video. I would recommend painting bottom end grain of legs and up the legs about an inch with medium super glue to eliminate capillary action with water on ground or patio floor. Again, great video. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. I think it's design needs improvement because it has lots of similarities with the bins used for dishing food to animals ( like horses and cows ). maybe some decorations of the legs and container alter the impact.
