WORKED Great! THANKS! Bought a brand new ruckus and it bogged all the time. Took it into the dealership, they had it for a week, returned it and it continued with the same problem. I was about to clean the carb and fuel lines, filter, etc and then saw your video. Did the ECM reset as instructed and it's fixed. Amazing that trained Honda motorcycle mechanics couldn't figure this out.
Hey Danny! Glad to hear it worked! I have other videos also concerning the Ruckus and have more to post in the future! I'm always looking for ways to improve it! Welcome to Ruby the Elite!
I would go through and check everything I did in the longer bogging video I have.(there are two bogging videos) As far as the check being the same? I would assume it is if you have the wire hanging. BUT......But, I still would strongly suggest you follow the service manual! The reset is in the Ruckus manual. I have no idea if it's in the Metropolitan manual since I've yet to own one.
Thank you. Bought 2018 Ruckus with 81 miles, used to belong to a friend of mine and he passed a way about year ago. Scooter was dead. Just finished cleaning carburetor and now I found your video. So now Ill go home from shop, install carb, then I will attempt to start Ruckus. Will observe, Ill do the reset after start attempt and Ill come back and post results. But I do have a good feeling about your post. THANK YOU!
Hi George! My Ruckus "bogging video" shows more detail on the reset. It also shows other things to do if the bike has been sitting for a long time. Good luck to you!!!! Welcome to my channel!
My battery died and replaced it today. Took it for a spin and was topping out at 30 instead of my usual 40ish on straightaways. Found your video on the ECM reset and it's back to normal. Thanks.
Both of my Rukus Scooters where hesitating, especially under power going up hill, after having cleaned the carburetor on one and changing the batteries on both. I figured I just had to put up with it until I found this video and after resetting the ECM per this video they run much better now, who knew. Thanks for posting this video. 🙂
Thanks again for the post. I'm so glad I have stumbled across this post. So I have removed and cleaned carb and did a lot of other stuff. But, all I was doing was wasting time and energy, since this bike had only 81 miles. After installing carburetor back, bike was acting the same as before. So, I performed the computer reset and that was what was needed from beginning. Ruckus is running great now. So it is ready for sale now. It is little too slow for me. I've put on 7 miles and it is awesome to ride it around neighborhood. So thanks again for the post.
Glad to hear it helped you George! A new Polini variator will help a little with the speed. Also a NCY cdi will help. I haven't installed the cdi because I don't like the fact that you lose the kill switch if you install it. Good luck if you decide to sell!!!
A lot of bogging and unstable idle on my friend's zoomer 50 after watching this video i immediately reset the ecu and after test run it doesn't bog anymore. Thanks dude
Bought mine new in 2024, was bogging down at acceleration, did the ecm reset and it drives perfect, thank you, I assume the battery went dead before I bought it
Interesting. Had problems with mine ever since it sat for a year and after a carb clean its never been the same. Was brand new. Glad i came across this
May your tribe increase. My 2005 Metropolitan struggled to run well (or at all). I have fixed 28 things to no avail...now it runs like it should and can basically keep up w/ my 02.
Thank you so much for this video! I have a custom ruckus build with 9” stretch and filter and carb reset kit after I was done and my coolant red light engine problem come up bike would not idle and choke did not turn off after the bike sat for month and the battery went dead, I did the reset light went out and auto choke is working great again. Fix all my issues 😃👍
Wow! Thank you so very much! Ive been trying to figure out exactly what that plug goes to. Not to mention what the heck is causing my volume on my Metropolitan. And it makes total sense
WOT I appreciate your comments. Soon I will be uploading my other video's showing this as well as the other things I tried to do to fix the bogging issues I encountered.
Fantastic read bro I wish I would solve this before I did everything I had the bog ng I had the stuttering change the fuel pump fuel filter drain all the gas took the car Boff clean the card check the jets the only thing that I saw was that the air exhaust that goes to the car to the air filter Box wasn't even tightened down that was probably the problem For my issue but I still did this anyway because I did change everything and took the carb off the oil change did the Radiator clean I mean I just decided just to clean the bike completely up and change everything out but thanks for the bed and taking the time to do it
Hello Steven! Welcome to Ruby the Elite! I feel your pain! My other video shows everything I did including the ECM reset. It was good for me to go through the bike though since the prior owner messed mine up!
Thank you for the insightful video. If I may ask-is this necessary if you are just replacing the Carburetor and not doing anything regarding the battery?
Yes, the cable to the sensor connects to the carb. Keep in mind that all the ecm reset does is put the sensor back in the correct home position. It may already be in that position though. Should only need to do the reset if the bike is bogging.
Good job. Will do this weekend, it not bogging at all just not up to full speed, think I’ve replace two maybe 3 batteries and did not do this. I’ll let you know what happens, Come on 47 mph. 😊
Hi Ruby the Elite - I am new to Ruckus motos, just bought a used 2003 and a used 2004. I understand that the 2003-2005 models used a different ECM than 2006 to present. Any chance do you know if there's a similar reset process for the 1st generation Ruckus motos?
Does a 2014 Ruckers have this ECM data reset? Thanks for the video and advance. I replace the battery and it just keeps wanting to start but will not. I’m wondering if the carburetor or the Jets have become clogged. It only said for three months. Thanks for the help.
Mine bogs on takeoff every time on slight inclines. After about 10mph it runs perfect. I've done literally everything idk what to do to fix it, maybe it's just a 50cc thing and it's not powerful enough. I've cleaned the carb jets, new OEM air filter, new OEM fuel filter, new OEM fuel pump, still bogs on takeoff! I'm thinking there is still some kind of air intake problem or something I have no idea
Thanks for your reply, yeah ever since I have had it, not new, 2015, it has stuttered and bogged from warming it up to riding, so I'm going to try your method, I hsve chenged tbe battery months ago but never did the reset, thanks bro, blessings
I have a question. I have a Ruckus that was bogging and like you I replaced the carburetor. But, I also was told it wasn't running. Now, all it does is click like a dead battery. I did also replace the battery (which was bad.) H I tried resetting the ECM and it's still doing the same. Any suggestions?
Very hard to diagnose something without seeing it. Could be a lot of things including a faulty ECM. I would follow the "no start" procedure in the service manual and see where it leads you.
Hi, thanks! does it have to be a certain type of wire? or any kind of metal that's conductive? like a coat hanger or something Also by "on" do you mean like engine running on or just key in the on position?
@@rubytheelite Thanks! I saw it after I replied, I have another question though, does the engine have to be running in order for the headlights to turn on?
Hey there. Just tried the reset but am still bogging at full throttle. I had a spark and seemed to hear the single fuel pump click, but my headlights didnt turn on or off like you mentioned. Could this be a wiring issue or something I'm doing wrong with the order of the reset? My order was connecting the two terminals with the wire, waiting a few seconds, remove wire, turned over the ignition, waited a few more seconds. Thanks a lot!
Thanks very much for taking your time with the video, when I got my ruckus it stutters right off the bat, 2015 and would go about 30 or so, today it would not go past 20mph, bogging and stuttering when you give it gas, oh to start it yiu have to give it gas to warm up,, still bogs during that to, so maybe I need to do what you did in the video, thanks, subscribe and bell check
Hello Corny!! My 21 min Ruckus bogging video shows everything I did from beginning to end. My bike had sat with the previous owner for 2 years. They tried to fix it and made a mess instead! If you have bogging issues that video shows everything I did to get it running like brand new again! Good luck to you! Welcome to my channel!!!!
Nice video but I am still confused with reset. Why? I have zoomer with fuel injection which has bit different plug. I figured out that is quite same plug that has Honda Grom (check out ECM issue for Grom on YT) but one of the wires in my zoomer is different colour... Well I do not have a manual for European Zoomer with Fuel Injection. Any idea what to do? I would appreciate your answer. Can such reset burn the installation or any module?
Unfortunately I don't know when it comes to the Zoomer if this reset is the same since it has fuel injection. The reset is in the service manual of the Ruckus. I suggest you only follow the Zoomer service manual and not take any chances.
So I followed your instructions and the light goes on but doesn’t come on again when I remove the wire. I do hear the fuel pump kick on a few seconds later, so does that mean that the ECM reset was successful, even though the light never came on a second time? Thanks so much for the video. I appreciate any advice you can provide
Hello Nick... Please watch my full bogging issue video which goes over everything I encountered on my Ruckus.( I have two videos. One long and one short concerning ECM) After you try all the repairs I made and if you still have an issue I would say your ECM is failing. Please keep in mind though without physically looking at the bike I can only guess at this point. I'm simply saying rule everything out that I tried first before purchasing a new ECM. Good luck!
I appreciate this video as it seems to have some relevance to my problem with my '08 Ruckus. But here are some troubling points. My dangling Blu/Y wire with the red male connector is actually connected to a clear female connector. That connector attaches to a Black wire which is heat-shrinked a few inches away to a yellow wire which leads to a wiring harness ahead of the ECU/ECM. Second point: The Honda "Service Manual 2003-2008" does not suggest resetting the ECM when removing the throttle position sensor harness, only when removing the TPS. Third point: That "manual" has nothing to say about resetting it when the battery is removed or dead. Further the wiring diagram doesn't recognize the wire I described above that connjects to dangle-wire. I'd like to say that Honda's documentation is awful, on a par with Chinese documentation. It looks slick but when you actually try to use it you see it is not serious. There is only a glancing mention of the ECM. Since a real mechanic couldn't use this document to make a living, there must be some proper documentation for the dealers. Moving right along, my symptom, after replacing several Chinese fuel pumps and of course cleaning the microscopic pilot jet, is that when I turn the key I get a single click from the "main" solenoid, then nothing. I disconnected the "service check connector" (the dangle thing) and connected it to the battery positive. I turned on the key. The power to the lights did come on and 10 seconds later the lights extinguished. I switched off the key and back on. Bike is inoperative as before. Tried various timings of points to remove the lead from the positive and still nothing. It seems like whatever caused the problem is continuing to do so. I'll keep fooling with it and if I ever have a working Ruckus again I'll actually follow up here. Right now I'm pretty disgusted. This video shows 31 comments, but only 15 display. Of these, three respondents said they tried this, 2 seemed to say it worked, though one of the two was unclear. Since this video is basically the only information about this horrid problem, please take the time to report your findings. I can see an in-depth discussion of the mysterious ECM being a real hit on RUclips if a Honda mechanic wants to breeak the code of silence.
I have two videos concerning the bogging issue. I perform the reset on the other video as stated on page 17-10 of the service manual. This is the same manual you're using. This reset worked perfectly for my bike which is a 2016. My other video shows me doing the reset. After replacing my battery my TPS was off a second time. I performed the reset again and it was back to normal. Nothing helped the bogging issues except for the reset. I go over my whole experience with the bike and that finally fixes it in the other video.. That's what my experience is. Your Ruckus issues sound like your ECM is dead. Your bike is stock? Are you the original owner? Did you or someone install an NCY CDI? I do not agree on the service manual. I have had no issues with my 6 bikes using the provided service manuals from Honda. To say they are equal to Chinese manuals is just not true. I have a sneaky feeling you have a NCY red CDI connected to your bike causing your issues!
@@rubytheelite Thanks. I have viewed the other videos and wouldn't have gotten as far as I have without your help. I was going to wait until I fully fixed and tested the bike before doing a follow-up but I will say that some progress has been made. I had two Chinese fuel pumps and neither was pumping fuel. I discovered that, even though they weren't doing anything, the ECM reset couldn't be performed without plugging in one of them. So now I can start the bike and run it by filling the carb with a syringe, but cannot get a fuel pump to work. I don't doubt that what you say is correct, that even swapping a battery or unplugging the TPS harness can require a reset, but I wanted to point out that the useless Honda documentation doesn't say this. As far as testing the 2 identical black relays, it seemed a cheap way to check them would be to swap them and look for any change in behavior. I don't actually believe that an Imron relay could fail in the few hours that these Ruckuses are failing, but then who would think a Honda fuel pump would fail so fast either? The system stinks. The fuel pump should pump fuel when fuel is needed, not continuously. No wonder they fail.
@@marusholilac I agree that the fuel pump is a garbage design! I have commented a few times on that. I've noticed if the bike sits for even just a week, it becomes sluggish to start! The kick start is useless without a battery is also extremely stupid!(Since the garbage fuel pump won't work without it!) I can tell you the Chinese fuel pumps aren't worth pursuing. I tried them and the Honda one is much better quality.
Welcome to my channel! The purpose of the reset is to get the throttle position sensor on the carb to match where the throttle home position is. Sometimes after changing the battery it can throw off the sensor. If you hook up the battery and no bogging occurs then there is no reason to do the reset. Hope this helps! -Ruby the Elite
I did remove the sensor cable on the carburetor I did hook it up started it ran and also it shuts off is that what's causing it to sensor cable that I have to do
Damn. I bet that’s what’s wrong with ours. 244 miles on it. Battery was dead. Recharged - bogged. Removed and cleaned carb - still bogged. Didn’t know about the ecm reset.
Please watch my other video just as I stated in my pinned comment. I show exactly what is supposed to happen. If your results don't match mine, please contact Honda for further diagnostic advice.
Attention! Be aware of any air box leaks! There is a o ring on the bottom left of the air box cover, if it is not perfectly sealed it will bog down and will not throttle up! Found this the hard way.
Please watch my other video which talks about other reasons that cause bogging besides the ECM reset. You may have issues with the carb, airbox, fuel pump or fuel filter.
I assume you're using the NCY CDI? If you are there should be a plug they provide since you had to use the red one for the CDI. If you don't have the NCY CDI it should not be used.
You were lucky. The service manual clearly states that if you remove the throttle position sensor that the ECM reset should be performed. It must have stayed in a good position for you so I again say you were lucky. I've got news for ya... Performance of the bike could possibly be even better if you follow what Honda (not me) suggests. FOLLOW THE SERVICE MANUAL! 😁

@@rubytheelite the kickstart works without the battery. You just need to kick it a few more times.
Do I need to reset, after unhooking my battery?
Welcome to my channel!
The purpose of the reset is to get the throttle position sensor on the carb to match where the throttle home position is. Sometimes after changing the battery it can throw off the sensor. If you hook up the battery and no bogging occurs then there is no reason to do the reset. Hope this helps! -Ruby the Elite
@@rubytheelite Thank you.
Does the ECM need resetting when you change the ECM?
It's a quick painless process that I've done many times. It wouldn't hurt to do one if you replaced the ECM.
A piece of wire has a permanent spot in the toolbox! Thank you for the help!
I did remove the sensor cable on the carburetor I did hook it up started it ran and also it shuts off is that what's causing it to sensor cable that I have to do
Watch my full bogging video. It will show you the reset.
Damn. I bet that’s what’s wrong with ours. 244 miles on it. Battery was dead. Recharged - bogged. Removed and cleaned carb - still bogged. Didn’t know about the ecm reset.
What kind of wire is needed to reset?
16 gage wire works fine.
You say “turn the bike on” do you mean turn the ignition switch to on position? Not start the engine?
Hi William! In my "project bogging" video I perform the reset showing all steps as they happen.
Thank you
I drove for about a year with a dead battery I just used to kickstart until my ruckus started bogging down I'm about to try
Thank you !!
Did the reset fix your bogging issue? Please tell your story!🙂
@@rubytheelite it did..
I was chasing my tail as well. That simple reset took care of the bogging issue !!
That's awesome!!! I'm very happy for you!👍
Omfg....THANK YOU
Do I need a certain wire
Any old piece of coated wire will work.
Does the Ruckus need to be running or just the key turned?????
Hello Abednego S!
My **All bogging fixes including ECM data reset** video shows the process being done.
Have Honda metropolitan ncw50 want start change battery it started run a little than die now want start
Headlight only came on once... heard the pump but headlight never lit up a second time...
I already mentioned the airbox in my bogging video. I have two videos for bogging. 🙂
I don’t get the same feedback when attempting this reset. 2009 Ruckus. Runs awful
Please watch my other video which talks about other reasons that cause bogging besides the ECM reset. You may have issues with the carb, airbox, fuel pump or fuel filter.
Hello my zoomer af66 have cdi gez641 .how rog reset this cdi please
How to reset cdi unit gez 641 please
This Honda zoomer is 2004
Zoomer has fuel injection. Ruckus has a carburetor. Different procedure.
Man, I ended up buying a new carburetor...lol
Great video
I have that red plug but it's connected to something else
I assume you're using the NCY CDI? If you are there should be a plug they provide since you had to use the red one for the CDI. If you don't have the NCY CDI it should not be used.
@@rubytheelite yes I do...I bought it like that...I assume that's the case when I watched another video...you helped me big time

Godamn sensors
My 2024 won't start (clogged idle jet) at 2 1/2 months old. Bad Democrat Green-New-Deal Corn-based fuel is sh*t!
Got news for ya. I removed my carb cleaned the jets unplugged all wires to the carb. All back together and it ran fine. Never did this "reset".
