      1. A pup.
      2. His breed was less perfect than Hobbit/LOTR one, just like orcs tend to look different through time or even different places (Moria orcs, Mordor Uruks and Goblin Town goblins as well Azog are technically orcs, just different breeds and enviroment)

Something I really liked about the original trilogy is how the creature design was based on prehistoric Cenozoic animals to convey the age and exotic setting of Middle Earth. The wargs are based on cave hyenas or borophagine dogs like Epicyon and the oliphants resemble mastodons or gompotheres. If I remember correctly Frodo trips over a chimpanzee's skull in Shelob's lair to imply that the orcs are akin to extinct hominids. The Hobbit followed this up with the elf king riding on a Megaloceros.

Could be that's just a "special" warg and not the standard breed but something tells me we arent gonna see more wargs in ROP anyway so I'm going off of the fact that what I'm seeing is the *standard* warg.
The bulging exotropic eyes, twitching motions, tongue going in and out of it's mouth like it's trying to act like Heath Ledger's Joker, randomly "clacking" (lack of word) it's teeth, having retarded noises instead of sounding like something even slightly related to a wolf. Shit, it even looks too small aswell. I cant imagine orcs riding that thing, or even expect them to be mentally stable enough to have in a battle and be able to differentiate friend from foe, compared to the actual wargs we've seen before.

After watching the video a few times, I can say with some confidence that most of the RoP warg's problem is in the eyes. Rule Number 1 of CGI monsters is that you never make big expressive eyes, because human brains will always focus on eyes as the very first detail they take in of any person or animal, so any tiny imperfection in the eyes will automatically trigger Uncanny Valley. In this case, it seems like the eyes are WAY too big relative to the other facial features, and that creates dissonance because humans associate large eyes with cute, cuddly things, not monsters. The huge eyes rob the RoP warg of all it's scariness. And you know why the Two Towers warg didn't suffer this same defect? Because it didn't have eyes - it only had small hair covered black beads. Ironically if you just cover the Rings of Power warg's eyes with your finger, the rest of the monster looks great.

That's the problem with the RoP, the Hobbit, and movies today in general - people are shifting away from hiring extras and using costumes to save money (think Hobbit orcs vs Meat's-back-on-the-menu orcs). I think the main difference between the two that in LOTR wages book like a real animal that might have existed long ago. But more than the looks it's the feel the weight of the worg when it's running and when it hits the ground after getting hit the movements are realistic
As for the ROP it's not just the cartoonish eyes and features but the way they move.
they're weightless, like a notice how's it flies on the woman and how it falls after getting hit. also how it frees itself from the chains and wood it's like literally flies like it has no weight/ gravity and it just does not look or feel real.. gives it the video game cartoonish feel.
Just makes you appreciate LOTR even more it just looked so real that you just didn't appreciate the time and effort it took to make these animals realistic that after 20 years it still holds up better in the multi-million dollar counterpart

Lmao the RoP wargs actually look more cute than menacing with their huge light-reflecting eyes, great job CGI team really understood the concept of a Warg.
Also I liked how that woman picks up the spear and looks ready to kick that Warg's ass and then she does not even hold the spear directly in front of her when the Warg runs at her in a straight line. *The only thing* you have to do to defend against a charging beast while holding a spear is holding it in front of you in the path of the charging beast. You don't even have to move or make a piercing move, just keep it pointed at the beast and let it impale itself unless it backs off or tries do move around the spear. But no, just keep the spear to your side right until the Warg is one meter away and then try to do a slashing attack... with a spear...
Details like these just highlight how bad a show is in my opinion. Want to show the woman get mauled by the Warg even though she has a spear? Let her point the spear at the Warg and then the Warg jumps to the side and gets her anyway. Boom, you made the Warg more menacing by being smart and agile enough to evade the spear and the woman died a death that seems reasonable, even pitiful, instead of ridiculous. But apparently nobody in the whole production team (at least the ones in charge) thought of that and would rather have a stupid spear twirl and charging scene.

But it seems that filmmakers draw from other films for their concepts. The guys who used to write screenplays fought in some brutal combat during war, many getting down and dirty in hand to hand fights. Jimmy Stewart flew bombing missions in WWII and kept at it even at the start of the Vietnam conflict.

I really think there are 2 main things here:
    1. The Two Towers Wargs have more grounded designs.
    2. The animation: The Rings of Power Warg moves around really twitchy in a way that isn't appropriate for its size that the OG Wargs don't
That's actually honestly it. I think if you freeze-frame any given part, they both look fairly photo-real, that's part of why I'm pointing fingers at the animation.
So the way I see it, the problem isn't the technical aptitude of the CG artists for Rings Of Power, it's more of a design problem, a planning problem, they gave the CG department a job that wasn't particularly workable and they did the best they could with their instructions.

Although I still prefer ROP designs to that of the Hobbits vast over design….the trilogy will always reign supreme, in every way.
Edit. Sorry I wasn’t referring to the Wargs…I can see why everyone thought that due to the title of the video.
I was referring to the overall representation of Middle Earth.
I loved the trilogy as it used the real landscapes of New Zealand so you could relate it to on much deeper level as the setting felt human.

Many people already commented about the eyes, but I think the cinematography is also making the wargs less threatening.
Just look at the difference between Jackson's warg getting speared, then RoP's warg getting speared : RoP warg is shown from the top and afar, diminishing its presence and making it less threatening, whereas in Jackson's movie, Gimli is stuck and we see the warg from his perspective : above him and about to devour him.
CGI aside, if after the shot at 0:44, we saw the warg from the perspective of the prisoner, literally jumping on the camera, it would have been better.
