madi's "i have a chorus of voices" speech probably my 2nd favourite speech of the entire show which says a lot considering how many incredible speeches there has been on this show. i get chills every time.
I think this is my favourite episode, the way Flint realises after everything that he actually knows nothing about Silver.. incredible. Best show ever.
@@johnjungkook2721 I think in contrast Silver knows a lot about Flint. His history in the Navy, his love of Thomas and his love of Miranda, his dream of freedom from British rule. Silver is still an enigma by the end, is that his real name? Where did he come from? What was he doing on that ship the very first time we meet him? And he’s such a good liar/storyteller the things he does say can’t be fully trusted. So clever, I love Black Sails :)
We all know that scene with Madi and Rodgers is fire, but I do love how at the end you can see Rodgers eyes watering up, the emotion in his voice as he tells the guy to bring her below.
I think the lack of a real “backstory” or “origin” to Silver is in keeping with how he was written in Treasure Island. Silver is a guy who’s simply had to live off his wits his whole life, and that’s his story. You could make the argument that the series itself is the backstory for the character of Long John Silver in Treasure Island.
Silver is a classic 1960s character - more fitting for a comic or a graphic novel than a real one. No depth there, really. I don't see Treasure Island being connected to Black Sails, as much as people insist that it is.
Madi reading Rogers for the trash he is always gives me great joy. But that he "sees" Eleanor as the little woman knitting in the corner says just how little he knew her. You could write an essay on Flint & Silver this episode. The man consumed by his past vs. the one who refuses to acknowledge his. I don't believe John Silver was even his real name. His plan in season 1 was to sell the schedule, make a quick buck and skip town so why would he tell one of the most dangerous pirate captains his real name right before he crossed him? Even the name is a lie. RIP to The Walrus. What a beautiful ship she was.
I made the same point about how Rogers views Eleanor in a patreon comment! It's really a fascinating touch, especially because it's like each click of the needles is agreeing with Madi's words.
"But that he "sees" Eleanor as the little woman knitting in the corner says just how little he knew her." I love this point so much. I'd never thought of that before.
@helifanodobezanozi7689 the shows creator Jonathan Stienberg, currently working for Disney and on the show Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I don't know if that is a good show or not since I don't stream Disney+
As a writer, any time I'm lacking inspiration, I rewatch the flashback scenes from this episode. The dialogue, the culmination of events giving such weight to every word, the foreshadowing of conflict between friends... It's just so ridiculously good
So I finished the show last week. I binge watched it over the course of a month. Very good and surprised it flew under my radar for so long. I guess i was busy with Game of Thrones when this show was still relatively fresh. I just learned that the actor that played Governor Rogers played Ser Arthur Dayne in Game of Thrones. His skill with a sword is the best I've ever seen.
So happy to see you about to finish Black Sails crazy it been over 4 months already. Idk if you doing anymore polls for new shows but I’d highly recommend one of HBO’s big early 2000’s shows either Deadwood, The Sopranos or Six Feet Under.
Gotta take a minute to shout out the writers. Creating a drunk old salty sailor just so they could flex their writing skills. Then BAM! Kill him off. Having way too much fun here!
When i review Black Sails, knowing were it leads, all made so much more sence. And the wrighting of the show become so much better, if it s possible, and reach annother Level. Not seen any other Show done it to me.
Mm-hmm Mm-hmm. It'll be great when they see the finale is like 90 minutes vs the usual 50-60 mins I have so much to say about this perfection of an episode. But I'll only mention a few things that stick with me almost a decade later Madi!! What a speech and the way she says the final line "That, _you did_ " was powerful. The way the music builds and builds then goes silent during the Flint/Samurai pirate fight and you just hear the sound effects. The Jack/Drunk old man interaction on the ship was fantastic! "You'll step into that painting and feel the swell beneath your feet" , just epic writing. Just one more and they stick the landing
I can't resist commenting on this. This was made by the Starz Network which is backed by a mixture of American and Canadian money. The actors are almost all British or Australian and the show itself was filmed completely in South Africa. It is a hard sell to say that this was a Hollywood series. In addition I would say that unusually all 4 series were prewritten before a camera ever rolled and Toby Stephens has said that he was aware of Flint's whole character arc before he took the part. So it is also a hard sell to say that the show changed direction.
@@hilarymiseroy You seriously expect me to believe a GAY PIRATE was written 10 years ago, all the girl boss crap written 10 years ago and someone said, hell ya this would make a great movie! LOL.

2x9 + 2x10 , 3x9 + 3x10 and 4x9 + 4x10 are some of the best final episode stretches of all time!!
2x10, 3x10, and 4x10 have 3 of the best speeches I have ever seen. And what I use as a template to compare what a great speeches are
Black Sails is the closest thing we have to Shakespeare in our current time. We will never see it’s Iike again ❤️
You mean the GAY pirate? GO WOKE GO BROKE.
I believe the show runners are still alive, so there is a chance we all may be lucky enough to actually get a show as good or even better!

I love the unstoppable emotions Milena had to release starting from 31:12 . U know it has come from a long way of deep character developments.

The actor who played billy bones also played Dickon, Sam's brother in the later episodes. Like episode 7x4.

06:35 😂😂😂 Milena was so happy to be wrong
That wide shot of Silver and Flint drawing swords. Woof. They must have had a good time finding that location.
The show already ended on patreon, and now I have to go through the stages of grief AGAIN as it ends on RUclips 😭

Roger's dive into insanity is written perfectly. The composed, confident governor that he was no longer is.
