      @@bernardlindeman739 I have similar problems with my NEW modular set up. I spent 5 years on the DAW purely on my computer. I didn't need it but I wanted it... so I got a Moog GM. Then I got a Moog subH. And now I have a Niftykeyz with a Piston Honda and a few other bits. The Niftykeyz is not full yet but I have plans... I don't actually need any of it and I am making less music because of it. But the system sounds epic and I would not change a thing. I do have a bit of a GAS problem if I admit it. Because I can do everything from my computer with software synths. I mean look at Vital that thing is FOR FREE and is nearly as good as Serum. I have that also with Hive 2, Zebra 2, and Serge. And with all the other plugins I got I could probably make any type of music imaginable. But I got jealous of the hardware that was out and I wanted a true analog sound. And when I got the Moog to fill this gap I was addicted to hardware. That is how you get GAS. But I don't regret it... honestly.😭

      @@rodnee2340 did daw for about a year but I just can’t do computers, limitation is my guide. Computers are choice fatigue factories. Honestly, a Sherman filterbank and akai s20 maybe a 303 type set up n go for album, then rotate, but selecting a team and giving them missions for some clandestine tracks. Was a theme but having 20 machines all with psu was cumbersome and I wanted to think about performing, hence modular, where I can select fave features from years of hardware / interfacing with round on rounds on rounds on rounds of buying n selling, sure I miss the teams I’ve had through out the years but knowing what you enjoy when creating is for me the biggest hurdle and having all in the aforementioned space is the goal. For instance, the akai s20 “buttons/plastic pads” were a treat to launch samples, so I shoot for say a Qu-bit tri-ger or shekmat four rooks.

    While I love physical modelling, it sounds like me the patches aren't very well made for a wind controller. It currently sounds like they're played on a keyboard. A real wind instrument has more pitch and timbre changes with changing breath dynamics. I'm sure there is room for improvements in the way patches can be programmed to take even better advantage of the input from something like the Sylphyo they use to demonstrate.

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube Год назад +1

      Agreed. It seems like a struggle to play and with little possibility for expression in this demo. The Sylphyo has no lip sensor, so it has no way to do embouchure control or lip bend, which a wind instrument really benefits from.
      In physical modelling, you need as many expressive inputs as you can get, with an amount of imperfection provided by the player to make it seem more real. The more that's going on to change the sound as it's played, the better.

    • @hakonsoreide
      @hakonsoreide Год назад +1

      @@TooSlowTube The Sylphyo isn't the restriction here, though, lack of lip sensor notwithstanding. It has note value, onset velocity, continuous air pressure, axis roll, axis tilt, and a thumb modwheel. The challenge is to program all that information into more than just using breath pressure as volume.
      And even that isn't demonstrated particularly well. The volume changes too little, and it also looks as she's used to playing recorder and struggling to put enough air through it. I had the same issue when I used to own one. I modified mine to increase the air pressure by taping over most of the air tube exit hole. Before that, my playing was a bit like this.
      If they had got an experienced wind player and programmed in just one more parameter than volume to change with breath pressure, it could have sounded amazing.
      At least it's clear the potential is there.

    BTW, one of the things that has been missing from most of these physical models is the ability to bypass the exciter section to input an audio signal as the exciter. For example, for a tube or a string resonator I'd like to feed in a filtered saw patch from my vl70-m, simulating a bow but with much more control than a keyboard controller could give (because ht the response to breath and reed control).
    Similarly, let's feed percussion sounds coming our of our e-drum kits! My Korg Wavedrum into the resonators in this instrument could give a wide range of interesting and natural-sounding unique timbres.

  • @RaymondPeckIII
    @RaymondPeckIII 10 месяцев назад

    Back when Generator first came out from Native Instruments (the predecessor of Reaktor) the most popular user preset was a similar filtered-delay-feedback physical model, also called Steampipe. I never played it with my wx-5 wind controller, but this is also similar to the models in the old Yamaha vl70-m physical modelling wind synthesizer. It's not clear if it's responding to breath and reed-controller as nicely as the vl70-m, but the interface is a lot (!) more accessible than the vl70-m. I'd love to try this with my wx-5!
