@@SaltyKayak I know exactly what you're saying....old habits die hard, no pun intended. I have lots too many dogs and cats over the years - it's never easy. The only thing is, after the guilt passes, you say I did this for you...I get emotional still. My first dog of my own was Frankie - he was a Bassett/Lab mix and he had the most beautiful red coat. Two months after Frankie, I had to put down a cat of mine (Candi) and then after moving back to NY (my other dog and cat stood with mom in Vegas) my cat had to be put down and just a month ago, my last dog Roxie (Husky/Shep mix) How is it so many dogs develop cancer??? We moved from NY to Vegas in 13 and each and every single animal that myself and my parents had, combined, has gotten sick....I apologize this is such a long rant LOL

Hi 1993, Not sure if you are interested but there is a book out by Randy Alcorn called Heaven and in it, he has done the research in Scripture and the Greek/Hebrew original interpretations and he says there are good indications that we will see out pets in Heaven.... along with many other 'beasts'. After all, it wasn't Fido that caused the original sin and we honestly do not know if there are 'evil' animals (other than man and Satan's crowd) so it begs the question as to why would God condemn those we love (our pets) and they show us love, into either oblivion or hell when He (God) created them the way they are? Just consider this. What we loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven. So if we love our dogs and cats and horses here on earth, is that love obliterated once they and we die? Or is it basically 'in storage' till we are once again reunited in eternity? But that also begs us to deeply consider HOW we treat our animals while we are here on earth.

@@SaltyKayak Thank you for responding Salty. I appreciate your thoughts on this subject. God teaches His children many things through His creation and I see no better illustration of unconditional love than by what our beloved pets show us. As you know the Bible gives a beautiful depiction of Heaven and how perfect it will be so I'm leaning toward them being there with us. I hear some that argue pets don't have a soul but neither do angels and they inhabit Heaven. One thing is certain, our pets are a Blessing while we have them. I often pray that we will be with ours for eternity as well as other pet lovers. Thanks for the info on the book, I will look it up now. You and Big John be safe out there. Thanks for what you guys do.

@@1993Savedbygrace Hi 1993, in Isaiah it states "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them."
Some people say that animals they do not have souls.. but I think that both you and I can attest they do have spirits. It is my 'opinion' that the emotion of 'love' is more than an emotion.. it is actually some 'thing' created between people and between people and our pets. As a GREAT example of this happened to me when I was in my early 20's. My mom and step-dad had moved (with my pet Dachshund that I had grown up with) to the West coast of Canada and were living/working on an island for a mining company. Since I was preparing to go into the military, I was spending my time before deployment, in Illinois visiting my dad. One evening, I felt an urgent need to write a letter to my mom, now several thousand miles away, and all of a sudden, the moment I thought of Fritz, I began crying like a baby. In the letter, I asked her 'what happened to Fritz'? I knew something terrible had happened. The next day, I stuck the letter in the mail. 3 days later, I got a letter from my mom telling me that Fritz had fallen down the stairs and broken his back. Mom had written me to ask if I was okay with them putting him down. (They did not put him down and my step-dad made a wheeled sling for him and he lived many more years) But, my point is that back then, our letters took a week to travel from my mom's home on an Island off the coast of British Columbia to me in Bloomington, Illinois. Our letters crossed in the mail. I was asking 'what happened to Fritz' and her letter was telling me ...what happened to Fritz.! As my spirit bore witness to my dog's spirit, I KNEW he was hurt.. I felt it in my spirit. So my conclusion is that our pets HAVE a spirit and possible a soul. But consider this too 1993.... Your DNA is unique to just you ONLY. No one on planet earth has ever had or will have your DNA signature. You are unique and YES, God KNOWS YOUR NAME because no one on earth has ever had or will ever have your exact DNA. Same for your pets.. they are just as unique to God as you are.

@@SaltyKayak Amen brother Salty. That story started my day off with a smile on my face. I too have felt the same type connection with pets through the years. My wife of almost 29 years recently had back surgery. The day I brought her home from the hospital our two sweet Havanese dogs knew something was different with "mama". She didn't look any different and really didn't act any different other than moving at a slower pace. They stayed by her side for well over 48hrs and never tried to play or rough-house with her as they sometimes do. They laid by her and showed her that she was loved and that things would be ok. God knows exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. I can testify that He uses pets to accomplish this sometimes. It warms my heart to hear how you guys took care of Fritz and blessed him with many more years with a great family. Once again, I agree with everything you said and appreciate you taking time to respond. Thank you for who you are and for your service to our country. Have a Great Thanksgiving...

Thanks Chad, She was a real sweetie of a lap dog and because our memories and or love for our pets go with us.. maybe, just maybe, we will see them again as each of us enters eternity. And there is Biblical evidence to suggest we will. In Isaiah it states "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them." Well, just a little common sense tells you that there ARE animals in the new heaven and new earth. I am looking forward to eternity...

Aw Salty, I am sooo sorry to hear about your sweet little baby Contessa! We lost our Chocolate Lab/Pittie (mostly Lab) this year & it broke our hearts! She was my Husband's really, he had her when we met 13 years ago & she was atleast 2 or 3 then. She too thought she was a lap dog.
It's really hard to have to have your babies put down, but it's even harder to watch them suffer. In my opinion, it's our last act of love for our animals to have them put down if they're suffering, not to mention, it's our responsibility as a pet owner.
    Again, I'm really sorry!

Hi Jamie, I am sure you know that I am a Christian. Not just your average Sunday morning Christian but I daily read the Scriptures plus have read many books on subjects like Heaven from authors who are a lot smarter than I am about all the deeper subjects in the Bible. One book I read a couple years ago and went to a Bible study series was by the author Randy Alcorn. He wrote the book 'Heaven' and in one of the chapters he discuses on the subject' do our pets go to heaven'? He has done the research on this subject and has concluded that there is enough evidence in Scripture to indicate that our love for our pets (and their love for us) is not destroyed once they or we pass and that we will once again be reunited in eternity. Now that is something interesting to consider especially knowing that our God is a loving God. So why would he let something be destroyed (our genuine love for our pets) when He is quite capable of keeping that love for us to some day be rekindled in eternity? But that also makes up consider just how we treat our pets while here on earth doesn't it?

Apropos reels I never had much luck with fixed spools for boat fishing, broke too many, probably due to cranking up the three pounds of lead we needed to hold bottom in 300ft of fast tide, so multipliers for me !
