This is the second version of the Dick Carpenter Trio it has Bill Sissoyev on bass. They won the Your All-American College Show 1968 with this performance. It was the first time they were on TV KAREN was18 and started singing while in college. The first version of the Dick Carpenter Trio started in 1965 and played clubs around Los Angeles (Karen was 15). They played mostly jazz with Wes Jacobs on bass or tuba. In 1966 They won the Hollywood Bowl Battle of the Bands with 2 songs a jazz song "Iced Tea" which Richard wrote and "Girl from Ipanema" a jazzed up Bosa nova. A recording was made of those 2 songs at the Hollywood Bowl you can listen to them with a search for Hollywood Bowl Battle of the Bands 1966. Between the 2 Dick Carpenters Trios they were in a college band called (Spectrum) Karen still the drummer not the singer. Saw them in the Whisky-A-GO-GO. They did not become Carpenters until they signed with A&M in 1969. I did not realize it was them and did not purchase their first album until it was rereleased as "Ticket To Ride"
Great reaction! Karen was a musical genius
Karen has one of the most beautiful voices and was surprisingly an amazing drummer!
