Yes! You get it! Jimin’s vocals in this song are very INTENTIONAL. I believe that the interspersing between the auto tune and his own are meant to represent that struggle between different parts of yourself or with yourself and the darkness inside or with outside forces. For me it represents that struggle to be set free. This entire song and the performance felt incredibly intentional to me.

Thank you for posting this! Jimin,as a BTS member but also as a person, has had to deal with a lot of hate and the false perception of who he is by fans, antis etc since debut. He has struggled with freely showing who he is,with expressing himself entirely how he wants to,and this song in part sheds light to that struggle and conveys how he had to fight with a darker side and in the end how he managed to feel freer to be who he is and to show others, again as an artist and as a person. So the vocal changes,as you mentioned, are probably intentional, according to the lyrics he's singing each time. The more I see people react to this, the more I realise it's producers and vocalists who work in and know music that never automatically think "autotune = bad." I mean, we know Jimin can sing, and we know he isn't using it for pitch correction. I thought it was obvious that the song was set up as a conversation between a more bombastic, aggressive, autotuned Jimin and a more wounded, reflective, natural-voiced Jimin pleading, and then demanding to be set free.
You’re absolutely right about the auto tune! He has expressed his vocal ability so much these part years so instead he’s using the auto tune to add texture into his voice that gives the song even for versatility. If you’re interested in Jimin’s vocal range though, do check BTS’s tiny desk performance or live performances like “Your Eyes Tell” or “Magic Shop”
this is litterally art. jimin is a contep dancer and expressions in his dance is his trademark so for this song the producers wanted this song to reflect his emotions in a visual and sonic way. the distorted parts of his voice is actually his inner voices from the past telling him to stay in the darkness. but his own clear voice keeps breaking free and overshadow the other voices, and finally the shadow leave him. and he is born again in a light free version. so the autotune is so brilliant to tell this story.

Love your reactions, nerdy-ish and all. How your spin on jimin's artistry is beyond the norms, even while high 😂, and we even get the gift of analysis thrown in sometimes as if an afterthought ❤️
You asked “what does it mean” lmao. Here are some things I got from it. The lyrics where he says “going insane to stay sane” are a direct reference to BTS song ON - they are lyrics from that song. To then follow that up immediately with “raise your hands for the past me, set me free”. That’s half of the meaning of the song right there. He’s distinguishing a defining moment between who he was with bts, and who he is now. And how his identity as Jimin is a whole one, despite being separate from the members. The other large theme of the song focuses on him freeing himself from other peoples perceptions of him. Jimin has mentioned periodically the insanely high expectations he holds himself to as a result of caring what others think. At one point that manifested itself in a complicated relationship with food. He and namjoon wrote some lyrics about this a long time ago on a show, about a year after their debut. To have seen the 18 year old Jimin then express in his lyrics how badly he wanted to be free of the need to be accepted and approved of by others, versus now? A song boldly declaring he has now set himself free and that this is his time? I’m really proud of him. It’s a beautiful song and the power he put into it (different from his trademark lilting vocals) shows us we don’t know who he is as an artist yet. He’s just getting started.
Honestly, I've seen so many videos and comments of people saying that it was trashy and he sounded wierd, and I feel like you explained it perfectly and had a good reaction. Bts members after years are finally trying new things and showing more of themselves, and this song is an example of that. I can understand that the song is very different from what we are used to seeing jimin do but I like seeing them grow and change their style and everyone should try to comprehend that.
I paused my tv show to watch your review! It’s an extremely well produced song on all levels! I love it. Very curious what the rest of the album is going to deliver! Will watch your review again tomorrow. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's great seeing Jimin expressing himself through his own music style. The text written on his body is a poem written in german by a famous German poet Rainer Maria Rilke titled 'I LIVE MY LIFE'. I live my life in growing orbits, which move out over the things of the world. Perhaps I can never achieve the last, but that will be my attempt. I am circling around God, around the ancient tower, and I have been circling for a thousand years, and I still don't know if I am a falcon, or a storm, or a great song.
I love how you explained things here! As someone who doesn't have the technical knowledge about music that you do, it's really enlightening to hear you talk about the things that I just don't notice or take for granted. I saw another youtube video where the guy was apparently complaining about the autotune because Jimin has a great voice already, and you really focused instead on how it was used and why it added to the song instead of shaming for even using it. Thank you for your insight!
First time checking your channel and I loved this insight it made me appreciate the song even more!! The producers went crazy, the choir the trumpets everything plus Jimin's different voices is just mind-blowing. This is like a grand/band/march type of song I'm loving it. I'm going to be obsessed with it for a long time.
The MV was great! Loved that Jimin challenged himself to explore his artistry and didn’t limit himself to what was comfortable. Choreography, instrumentals and theme were executed well, so on point. We all know Jimin can sing and it took me a second to understand and digest the second verse with the deliberate autotune, but the song grows on you; I think that the more you hear it, the better it gets. Can’t wait for the full album 💿💜🫶
My favorite thing about this song BESIDES our beautifully, talented, KING JIMIN, is the Choir, backup dancers, and the camera work. Just made it all so good.
3:59 very true. This song sounds very detailed. Every on and off of autotune, switching from light to aggressive vocals... all of it sounds intentional, as someone else said too.
Nice to see a reaction from you again. I really appreciate your knowledge. Jimin went above and beyond to make sure he'd be set free. Love him and all the boys to bits. 😊
Jimin is a perfectionist, so he would have every detail just the way he wants it. He did do a co-lab with another KPop artist Taeyang from Big Bang recently. Thanks for a great reaction. Jimn'sTitle track drops next week and he is going to perform on Fallon and do an interview also.
Thankyou so much for your genius reaction.. I'm feeling soo sorry for those antis who are making fun of using autotune in some part like no one have ever use !?? But there is difference btw using of autotune. Autotune in this song is used for making that impact more stronger because jimin's voice is just soo angelic and raw not like many artist who use autotune to makes their voices so pretty lol antis need to learn more about music 😭😭🤌 jimin is great kpop idol fr !!💜
Jimin KILLED it. Absolutely killed. I can’t stop watching the MV… but I go back and forth between him and a Thai singer named Jeff Satur (who is an Army too and covered Winter Bear and Dynamite). Have you reacted to him before? His voice will get you. People are sleeping on him and he JUST dropped his song called Dum Dum. So I have been going back and forth between the two and they both kill me.
The autotune add texture to the song as a whole. It fits so well since the song is about setting himself free from all the inner demons. the autotune sounds like the outside voices (the hate and criticism) that has been boggling his mind.
i love your reactions. Thanks for mentioning about the auto tunes and I agree with you. This is the new Jimin now and I cannot wait to hear the rest of his songs.
dude, your first bts reactions were what got me into them. this feels full circle. thank you for your expert opinion because you are so right!!! some people need to hear that the autotune is intentional

1:31 yes, it really is different of jimin, you're not wrong. Though jimin has sung really heavy songs before, they have never sounded like this. It just sounds... different? Because when he sings calm, he sings with a light voice. When he sings a heavy song, he growls. But he never does what he did in this song.
I honestly didn't know what to expect of him, and this makes sooooo much sense. it's very very Jimin. I'm honestly in love and i can't wait until his whole solo is out this upcoming friday.

It’s a beautiful song and the power he put into it (different from his trademark lilting vocals) shows us we don’t know who he is as an artist yet. He’s just getting started.
Jimin’s tone is so gorgeous
Visuals amazing
Song amazing
I’m *OBSESSED*
Well the one who did the horns/brass for industry baby is the same guy who did for Jimin’s. His name is Nick Lee
I live my life in growing orbits,
which move out over the things of the world.
Perhaps I can never achieve the last,
but that will be my attempt.
I am circling around God, around the ancient tower,
and I have been circling for a thousand years,
and I still don't know if I am a falcon, or a storm,
or a great song.
I absolutely ADORE the song I can't stop listening to it
First time checking your channel and I loved this insight it made me appreciate the song even more!! The producers went crazy, the choir the trumpets everything plus Jimin's different voices is just mind-blowing. This is like a grand/band/march type of song I'm loving it. I'm going to be obsessed with it for a long time.
“i’m too high for this” oh boy 😭
It’s Jimin… Jimin = perfection. He is a perfectionist. Always delivers more than our expectations. ❤
You spot on when you said it reminded you of Industry Baby. Nick Lee played the brass in both songs :)
oh???? wow!
this song is a masterpiece. jimin is a genius
It’s amazing how each member of BTS could easily be a solo artist. I don’t think any other band has this capability.
Yes thank you for this reaction Tristan!
Jimin is amazing 💜💜💜💜💜 song is amazing 💜💜💜💜💜
Nice to see you again, Tristan. We always appreciate for giving your all.
Finally someone actually analysing the vocal styles jimin used in the song.. such a unique song.. and yeah great reaction and analysis bruh
honestly didn't expect it to like it this much because of the teaser but I'm so happy with how he used the set me free lyrics lol
I love this song! 💜
Thank you for interpreting JIMIN’s music. He is beyond amazing 🤩
You are so fun to watch I love watching you react
Thankyou so much for your genius reaction.. I'm feeling soo sorry for those antis who are making fun of using autotune in some part like no one have ever use !?? But there is difference btw using of autotune. Autotune in this song is used for making that impact more stronger because jimin's voice is just soo angelic and raw not like many artist who use autotune to makes their voices so pretty lol antis need to learn more about music 😭😭🤌 jimin is great kpop idol fr !!💜
I love when he says that jimin has an angelic voice
You're on point, the producer who worked on Industry baby also worked on Jimin's song, the horns part is from him!
I would love Jimin to watch your reaction, bet he'd love it!
dude, your first bts reactions were what got me into them. this feels full circle. thank you for your expert opinion because you are so right!!! some people need to hear that the autotune is intentional
This song is phenomenal - such high quality! JIMIN and his team are amazing, shout out to PDogg !
JIMIN❤👑⭐🔥🔥
Thank you for your reaction and thoughts, input and opinions. You were spot on w thoughts on the use of autotune
Thank you for the analysis!!
About the emotions after the song, I can relate . It makes me wanna cry because of how epic and great the song is. And oh, JIMIN is a PERFORMER. Great job 👏
I love your reaction! Thank you! Glad to hear you liked it It makes me happy to hear it from a vocal coach! ❤
Exactly. Autotune in this song is spot on. Great to hear your opinion on that 👍🏻 I love how hard it hits too and Jimin’s so called angelic voice actually fits this song so well 🙌🏻🔥
Love your reaction !! Thank you so much !
mr jm did not come to play, he’s gonna take over with this album 🐥😎
Thank you for respecting Jimin. It's difficult for each member to express themselves individually when they have been a group for so long. I love Jimin. I can't believe that he said f$#k lol. I've never heard him say that. He is such a cool, multitalented person. I loved your take!!
Your musical and artistry insight is incredibly impressive. I wish you would analyze more of their solo work.
There’s one artist that is unknown but has to be one of the most underrated artist ever! I would love to bless you with reacting to Stan Walker Amazing grace I promise you, you won’t regret it!
THE KING of the industry is right here everybody YES MISTER PARK JIMIN 🔥
1:31 yes, it really is different of jimin, you're not wrong. Though jimin has sung really heavy songs before, they have never sounded like this. It just sounds... different? Because when he sings calm, he sings with a light voice. When he sings a heavy song, he growls. But he never does what he did in this song.
i'm so happy you liked it since jimin is my favorite 🥺 i've been watching your bts reactions since way back
I LOVE LOVE this song. something about it is so special and genius.
I love your reactions, because it's exactly how I feel, and it just makes me smile
Yesss you reacted to this!
The fact that bts aren’t afraid to switch it up says it all‼️ biggest and best group for a reason ‼️
I honestly didn't know what to expect of him, and this makes sooooo much sense. it's very very Jimin. I'm honestly in love and i can't wait until his whole solo is out this upcoming friday.
you’re going to need to check out the album next friday it’s going to be incredible!!💜
Finally someone who would actually be honest about his voice and all not like others just overacting (maybe) but he actually said all I wanted to here..... he appreciating and saying wat he actually thinks really loved it brother respect.... BTW I'm an army too,
loved that a ton. top tier energy. so unique
OMG OMG YES IM SO HAPPY YOU REACTED TO THIS MASTERPIECE
A MASTERPIECEEEEE💜♾️
Thank you for your astute view of what Jimin was trying to convey and of the hard work and immense thought process that went into this song and how autotune was used as an effective tool. It was an intense, emotional ride especially if you follow Jimin for a long time. All the best to you and your channel. ❤❤❤
KING JIMIN 🔥🔥
NO YOU SKIPPED REACTING TO MY FAV PART😭 THE BEAT DROP PART AFTER THE 1ST CHORUS😭😭 lol thanks for the video tho ur reactions are always so in depth and interesting🫡
Jimin was amazing in this video 💜
ahhh thank you for explaining the different voices he uses!!! jimin is so amazing
I think it is actually true that the different voices represent different personas...because the who song is the story of his self struggle to be able to set himself free.
Someone said if you can hear “clear autotune” in a song, THERES A REASON. JIMIN BROUGHT RANGE IN THIS SONG AND IT IS A MASTERPIECE
I love this song so much and like to see/hear the difference in people’s comments, I do learned something new after every reaction, thank you for yours I truly enjoy it 💜
This is my fave reaction so far. Thank you for appreciating our Jimin.❤
LEGENDARY PARK JIMIN brought MASTERPIECES to us
people hate the song cos its autotune heavy but here comes a respected vocal coach liking it because it uses a wise use of autotune to the song, and people hating it doesn't even know music theory and vocal informations deym haha
Well, that woke you up quickly. So many reactors also said he sounded like the Weekend. Great reaction. I subscribed because of it. This is Jimin's anthem!!
JIMIN IS THE BEST❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
The choir from the U.S. posted a pic of them with Jimin...very cool
Powerfull art by Ji-Min (BTS)🔥💜
And yes sometimes is just time to sit back and injoy the art - like watching painters works (not picking if Picasso has too much lines😂). Greetings from the edge of Europe
