It's kind of weird that my two favorite moments from the MCU are "You killed my mother" and "He killed my mom"... from two different characters, in completly different contexts....
Despite taking place in space and dealing with stones of unlimited power that can destroy the universe, Guardians of the Galaxy is the most human superhero movie....ever.
This movie hits me different than the rest of the MCU for similar reasons. My mom had just taken my brother and I out from under my very abusive dad like, 2 days before I went and saw GoG2 in the theatre.
I def hear you with that. I saw Guardians 1 in August while my dad[he was a love/hate figure in my life] was fighting his cancer. Made the first part hard to watch but when he passed in October I couldn't watch Peter's mothers scenes that next year. Still kind of can't and the actress looks like she's in decent health compared to the real thing[it's a movie. No issue with that.]. So imagine getting to Guardians 2 was 'interesting' to watch because of that. So I'm really glad your mother got you and your family away from your dad.❤

It’s like everyone forgot or just didn’t watch Vol. 2 that Peter is a just a ball of feeling and lashes out when the one he loves are hurt. Ego killed his mother and Peter immediately tried to kill Ego so it totally makes sense that Quill would attack Thanos when he realized Gamora is dead. It’s the same thing with his mother, Ego claims he loved Quill’s mom and said he had to put the tumor in her head so he can continue his plan just like how Thanos killed the daughter he loved so Thanos could get the Soul Stone.
Kye Dysarthria some people who blamed him for his apparently “idiotic move” in IW. Personally, it’s completely understandable and human to do what Quill did in IW. Besides, if he didn’t, Thanos would still win anyway, so he *needed* to do that.
@@sungkixx I think your miscontruing peoples complaint about Starlord. No one is thinks it's stupid that he would want to kill thanos for what he did; they just think that most people could shelf the anger for ten seconds so that the person they want to kill is without their most powerful weapon, or just help take it off themselves. It may make sense for the character, but that still doesn't stop it from being a stupid move.
@@fightingmedialounge519 it was stupid but it's understandable why, you just need to ask yourself, would you get angry when someone kills someone you love because "they had to"? i definetly would tbh
As someone who survived leukemia myself, I understand how living through cancer, or any life threatening experience can change how you think about everything. The bad changes, the good changes, and the existential understanding.
I still remember seeing this scene in the theater and remember thinking at the reveal "Kill him" being my instant thought only for Peter to right away to open fire. I don't think I have ever felt more on the same page as a character before or since watching that scene for the first time. Peter's probably hands down the most human character in the MCU.
"You shouldn't have killed my mom and squished my Walkman." In any other movie, this line would be made purely for comedy or would come off as cheesy, but the reason why lines like this work in the Guardians movies is because of the constant connection we have to these characters. Very few films take the time to really make you feel for the characters at all times. These movies do such a great job at balancing top-notch character-driven humor and flawless heart-to-heart exchanges between these characters. That's why this line means so much. Taken out of context, we would have no reason to care about his Walkman, because to most people a Walkman doesn't even compare to the value of your mother. But to Peter, they're one in the same. His Walkman is the essence of his mom. And that's just so beautiful to me.
I understand how hard dealing with cancer can be. Especially as a kid. I got Leukemia when I was 17 (not quite a kid, but still young). I had only gotten to experience about 6 weeks of my senior year of high school when I got sick. I had to do all of the school work I would have done in school all while dealing with the chemotherapy and throwing up every hour or so. Even though I was still going through treatment, I forced myself to get back home in time to be able to go to prom and my graduation ceremony. I was lucky enough to go to St. Jude to get treated, and they had some amazing resources to help with coping. I'm glad you're doing well, and I've been cancer free for a year and a half now. I'm still dealing with a lot of side effects and pain as a result of treatment, but I am doing much better than I was. The trials we go through are what makes us who we are. Dealing with cancer showed me the fragility of life, and made me appreciate every day so much more. Going to St. Jude showed me how blessed I was in getting it at the age that I did, because I was old enough to understand what they had to do and why, where as a baby or small child wouldn't. There were so many younger children and babies who looked happy, even though they were probably in pain, and definitely confused on why they had to do the things they did, and about what was going on around them. I got to make some new friends through staying in Memphis, on St. Jude campus, who knew exactly what I was going through and who I could share my experienced and pain with. Everyone has trials they deal with and they are all equally important, but cancer is one of the toughest things I've ever had to go through. I loved the video too, by the way.
Kids who die of cancer don't grow up to have cancers kids of their own. Humanity is insane for allowing weakness to corrupt the species. How selfish you are, to think your existence is worth future suffering.
I wasn't ever a huge Marvel fan until recently, and I still haven't seen all of the films in the universe. But The Guardians of the Galaxy films are by far my favourites, I decided to watch the first one because I like Scifi but I fell in love with the world characters and stories. They are the perfect combination of action, comedy drama and heart, in my opinion.
Great video! I loved both Lindsay Ellis and Full Fat's video on Guardians, and I'd definitely put yours up there with them. It takes a brave man to get personal when analysing a film, but it's a testament to how good Vol. 2 is that it almost becomes an essential part of it. Also, it takes a very well crafted video to be 17 minutes and not boring, so here, have a sub.
Definitely! I made my own One Marvelous Scene video and got a great response, too! Above everything else, I think everyone who has contributed and enjoys this playlist is a really nice community!
On 12:20 the proper term you're looking for is the "dolly zoom" effect. First used by Alfred Hitchcock in the film 'Vertigo'. It's also called the 'reverse tracking shot'. It's done with a zoom lens by zooming and moving the camera at the same time.
Thank God I'm not the only one who forgave starlord wholeheartedly, everyone acts like I'm crazy, but I watched the movie the second time just to see that scene again, it was a truly MARVELous scene for his character
When you played the "hype train" sound effect I was wearing ear buds and was looking for something in my closet. Legit thought there was a bat or something in there.
I typically let Ronan fly even if under written. They had so much to juggle in that first one I was fine with a bit of a one dimensional villain. Gave more time for the other more important characters to grow.
He was still better than most of the marvel villains we'd seen at that time. Gunn did a good job of at least showing the stakes in Ronin kicking the crap out of Drax in the midpoint of the film, and showing the destructive capabilities of the power stone that he had
IAMAMAZINGMASON yah for sure, I understand that, it’s good that it was focused on the Guardians, but even so I feel like Lee Pace’s performance was weak. Also the costume was disappointing for me, it feels like a dull dumbed down version of the comic’s costume.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 is my favorite Marvel movie. One of my favorite movies period. And it just amazes me to see how it connects with people in different ways. I can't tell you how devastated I was when I found out about the firing of James Gunn. I felt so much relief when he was rehired.
The guardians were my way into the MCU, Guardians 2 was the first one I saw in the cinema but I saw Guardians 1 before to get to know the characters. It’s a great place to get into the MCU and I agree with this completely. I’ve always seen Quills reaction in IW as completely rational. Thank you for opening up about your past as well, well done on the video!
Hey, thanks for sharing your story, and congratulations on getting to where you are now! It's a real encouragement to hear. Seeing the GotG through your eyes gave me an even bigger appreciation for it!
Dude i love the way how you crush theese deep problems of life with an elegant style of humor. I was thinking i am watching myself literally. Good video buddy you've just earned a sub. :)
I completely agree. No joke, I actually went to see the film 7 times just because of that scene. The first time it gave me chills, and the other times it just feels more like Quill being a badass.
Just found this video. As a fellow childhood cancer survivor, I know how hard it is to bring the topic up. Congrats on fighting the toughest fight possible and coming out on top.
I'm late to this video, but this was a very important scene to me. Made me see Quill as a much more serious and badass character rather than a shallow person who goofs off all the time.
The technical term for the camera move you are discussing is a Push/Pull or dolly zoom. As the camera is pushed closer to the subject usually on a dolly or tracking rig the zoom lens is pulled from telephoto to wide angle.... but most importantly these actions must take place while the subject remains the same size relative to the frame even as the perspective and surrounding imagery is morphed. The most famous use of this technique is probably in Jaws beach scene, but was pioneered by Hitchcock in Vertigo. The move can be performed either into or away from the subject to either provide the look of realization or coming back to reality as in this scene in Guardians 2 or the opposite to give the effect of the subject getting lost in their surroundings. This is one of the hardest and most technical types of camera movements that can be attempted on set even though the modern robotic and other mechanical film tools have made it a lot easier and repeatable (aka if different portions of the scene that might need to be filmed separately with the same camera and lens movement then combined in editing for effect). For a more detailed examination please watch this video from the channel Now You See It, they do a good job breaking it down....ruclips.net/video/u5JBlwlnJX0/видео.html
Thank you for this video, I lost my mom when I was young and your part where you opened up really spoke to me. I really connect to starlord more than any other character. Thank you for this video made me smile.
I was in a drive in theater for this movie and I still remember the exact moment that this line was delivered. Hearing the gasps and “oooooh shit” ‘s of 100 plus people was something I’ll never forget
I sobbed at the moment when peter receives the zoom because it hit me that, even though he “lost” the music his mother granted him with and offered an extended connection, yondu does the exact same. so even though he lost it from his mother, he now has it from his father
I will say that Yondu's funeral with Cat Steven's Father and Son is absolutely the best music choice used in the movie. The lyrics play to how Quill must now move on and he does so by first changing to a zoom to listen to his music. The song's message of the separating of father and son as the son goes off into the real world is something that speaks greatly to me. I also prefer Cap's movies but man does Vol. 2 drive home that these movies are peak super hero films; aside, TDK trilogy will always be the best super hero movies so to say that these rank up there with the Captain America movies and TDK trilogy is truly something else.
I never really looked at the guardians movie from the cancer perspective, but as I watched this video essay, I too felt the same connection you said. I recently got diagnosed with cancer back in October, and I’m only a sophomore in high school, I never really noticed the theme of growing up with cancer in your family whether it be you or a very close loved one. Glad to hear you’re cancer free!
I'm so sorry to hear that. Its gonna be a big obstacle to overcome. But something that always helped me was treating it as that. An obstacle. Something that I would take every chance to make it feel less monumental.I hope that can put you at ease a little. I appreciate your sharing and hope treatment is going well. Thank you honestly, so much for sharing. I'll be sending good vibes your way. Stay strong.
There is something celestially beautiful about how past abuse, loss, emotional scarring and the overcoming of the deeply wounded self... Creates the most exceptional of people. Thank you for summoning the courage to share, Mr. Amazing Mason.
I loved how u could come out and tell people about your past, it's a thing not a lot of people can do including me, what u said speaks to me, thanks for saying it.
I haven't even seen any of the MCU movies. Not even the first Avengers. But I find your love for these films and your bravery for sharing your story and struggles with us touching and inspiring. You've made an amazing job with the video. Keep on fighting the good fight my man!
My father passed when i was six years old,now i am 16 and i still feel like im suffering from that loss. BUT! There is one saying that still lingers with me till this day. "You might get skars in ur life, but at the end of the day those skars Fade. They will stay there as a reminder of what u went threw and then some. STAY STRONG and i love you son." So im so glad you fought your battle. Make everyday special and live your life freely. Stay Awesome
I first learned of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" show. Come to think of it, I just about learned of ALL the Marvel characters from that show. They had a lot of crossovers... They even crossovered into the Disney channel show "Jesse" once.
Honestly, any movie with the found family trope has a special place in my heart, an this movies do this so beautifully that I can't help but love them. As a queer kid in a non supportive family I sometimes get the existential horror that is thinking that you don't have anyone to be by your side, and that you're going to be alone forever. But movies like this, with their flawed characters, who can find a family on each other, who can help each other become better, these movies speak to my soul, that I'm not alone, that I have a place in this world, that I can be truly loved.
Just came back from seeing endgame. This video really brought some things home for me and I think I'm gonna watch both Guardians again. Thank you for your breakdown of this incredible scene!
My experience with a relative with cancer in my life is weird as he was pretty old and very ill already when he got it. He on the verge of death he was in a lot of pain and one day on one of his weekly check ups at the hospital they found cancer in the brain, lung and kidney. After that what was going to a slow painful way to go just turned into a quick decline to death he died a week later from a stroke caused by the tumour. So some people may see cancer as an unnecessary evil I personally see it as something good and bad as yes it caused a loved one of mine to die, but it made him avoid a slow painful death.
These films also avoided an issue that the mcu as a whole suffers from which is killing the mood with a joke. Seeing that “I’m Mary Poppins y’all!” Scene replayed reminded me how these movies actually use comedy to endear us to characters. It’s obviously very funny that Yondu is so naively proud of being Mary Poppins but it’s also really sweet that Quill chooses to let him have that and I think you can also see in the way he looks at Yondu that he’s having the realisation that, yeah, his dad is pretty cool.
Amazing video. Very heartfelt, and I really love the GOTG films as well. They're definitely among the best of the MCU, and I found this moment to be horribly gut-wrenching in particular. But side note: did anyone else notice how amazing his cosplay was? The dude LOOKS like Quill!
I really love Peter as a character too, because he hits close to home. A abused kid who is thrust into situations where he has to learn to grow up faster then he wants to, and dealing with the after affects of that abuse and rapid forced growth of maturity, I'm surprised my name isn't peter quill. Him as a character is one of the reasons I love Chris Pratt. To be able to play that in-depth of a character that perfectly, while adding your own personal spice to it? Fucking marvelous.
It's funny. I don't like GotG2 as a film. It's.... deeply flawed as a film. It's in an odd batch of films recently that have felt this way to me. Film? Not great. Individual Scenes? Off the charts. It mostly stuck the landing, between this scene and Yondu, but the firs 2 acts? Can't get into. (Oddly the opposite of GotG which had 2 amazingly great acts, but a oddly final one). But this scene was pretty marvelous. And I can see why this film spoke more to you than me. Good video man!
Totally fair. Obviously I am speaking in a entertaining sense of hyperbole when I go "PERFECTPERFECTPERFECT!" Because enjoyment film is subjective, and even more so HUMOR is so subjective. I very much subscribe to the idea of "there is no such thing as a perfect film, but there is such a thing as a perfect sequel" And I feel if I am gonna speak in absolutes about Volume 2 as a whole, it is that. I perfect SEQUEL. Even the first one has its flaws for me. I am really glad it seemed you enjoyed the film. This was my first sort of deer retrospective on a film, and I am curious as to what people would want to see me tackle next?? I got a few ideas, but we will see. I appreciate your feedback :)
Dude you're absolutely right. So many sub stories, call backs, powerful, meaningfull moments that Endgame wraped up nicely. Endgame made all the marvel movies better even Iron man 3. I like that one anyway.people missed the point of Iron man 3. Great video man, i agree with your views.
Yeah i was about to say. The movie got delayed a few times. And still came out 4 years later. What a prediction 😂 This vid is pre pandemic so yeah. Crazy how shit worked out lmao
I think one of my favorite moments shortly after the release of Infinity War was how some of the public came to the theatres and reacted in a negative way because they hadn't watched any of the films leading up to it. So it was literally, at least for them, a jumbled mess of characters and incoherent plot lines that got tied together and thrown in a dryer.
I saw this movie on the big screen and I just watched it again today. I think this is my sixth time. The thing that makes me cry is when Gamora tries to go after Peter and Rocket zaps her, unable to lose another friend. He tells Kraglin to start flying the ship and Drax, right there, "Is Quill back?" "...Rocket, where's Quill...?" "ROCKET, WHERE'S QUILL?!" MY FUCKING HEART
very good review. this was very enjoyable to watch. :D and thank you for 15:03 People were way too harsh. Hell, no one has realized that iron man mucked up too. He let go. The man with the super strength suit... let... go... of the gauntlet.
I didn't really want to give Guardians a chance when the first movie came out. I'm so happy I did though. One of the reasons as to why I love these movies so much is that we finally got a parent being actually important to the hero. Sure there's Howard Stark and Hank Pym; Hank however is not even the main character's father so that doesn't really count for me. As someone who lost her mother to cancer as well, it deeply moved me to see the same traumatic experience being of such significance to the protagonist.
A lot of people have been asking who the team around the 1:30 mark are. They are Marvel's Runaways.

I think is bc the other children he murdered didnt have the right genes to pass on his powers to and Peter was the only one

@@noirody6256 the issue isn't the anger, but the way he went about taking his revenge.
"You shouldn't have killed my mom and squished my Walkman."
In any other movie, this line would be made purely for comedy or would come off as cheesy, but the reason why lines like this work in the Guardians movies is because of the constant connection we have to these characters.
Still pretty cheesy here.

All I want to say is “way to go you fucking ledg; I’m so happy that you’re feeling better and that you left that toxicity from your life.”
"You killed my mother."
"No, Peter, I am your mother- wait, no that doesn't sound right..."
I have watched about 10 of these marvellous scenes vids now and although all are good this is by far my favourite! keep up the great work 😊
Go watch HiTop films if you haven’t, if you don’t think it’s better, that’s cool, still amazing and the best in my opinion.
HiTops stuff is usually pretty damn quality.
Same!
I did too
I wasn't ever a huge Marvel fan until recently, and I still haven't seen all of the films in the universe. But The Guardians of the Galaxy films are by far my favourites, I decided to watch the first one because I like Scifi but I fell in love with the world characters and stories. They are the perfect combination of action, comedy drama and heart, in my opinion.
I love hearing people praise GOTG. Two of my favorite movies ever
OMG. Thank you. I may have to do more of these. People seem to really like this.
Guardians is ALMOST a perfect movie. The villain is forgettable making the central conflict of the movie feel hollow.
"I've been cancer-free for a decade this year" congrats man but what
Ten year anniversary occurs this year, if that wording makes more sense
Almost perfect, Ronin sucks ass even though in the comics he can be pretty badass
Ronin or Ronan?
Orion Assasin2000 Ronan whoops haha
"One Marvelous Scene": 22 videos

I mean yes. I am a television/commercial actor so I have been around a handful of camera rigs over the years XD. Great breakdown.
It was this scene that made me like it more than the 1st movie
Stay strong.
see? this is exactly why gotg is my favorite mcu movie. its just hauntingly beautiful. i could talk about it for hours
LMFAO the "hype train" sounded to me like those turning sprayers at the beginning of a car wash that wash the wheels so I was super confused
There is something celestially beautiful about how past abuse, loss, emotional scarring and the overcoming of the deeply wounded self... Creates the most exceptional of people.
Thank you for summoning the courage to share, Mr. Amazing Mason.
From one youth cancer survivor to another, I'm glad you're here. Kudos to you for wonderful videos like this.
I loved how u could come out and tell people about your past, it's a thing not a lot of people can do including me, what u said speaks to me, thanks for saying it.
Stumbled on this video and never looked back. Great video.
You are a fighter! All my best
You may not want me to cry you a river but I'm about to cry myself a river for my grandmother

STAY STRONG and i love you son."
So im so glad you fought your battle.
Make everyday special and live your life freely.
Stay Awesome
Thank you so much for the "Too Many Cooks"!

You’re a survivor, awesome man. Brain tumor 2yo and 2 more cancers in 2020 and 2021. Id say you’re doing great. RUclips algorithm is weird sometimes.
Anybody who criticizes what Peter did to Thanos in Infinity War doesn't understand at all why he did it.
Thanks Jack Spicer. Tell Wuya I said "wassup" But not Chase. Dude is a total try-hard
@@IAMAMAZINGMASON Oh my god he absolutely is.
I'll make sure she gets the memo.
I first learned of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" show. Come to think of it, I just about learned of ALL the Marvel characters from that show. They had a lot of crossovers... They even crossovered into the Disney channel show "Jesse" once.
don't you think for one second that clip of Arin saying "TEN OUTTA TEN" at 2:23 went unnoticed
Really great video Mason! It was entertaining the entire way and provided a great analysis
when you shouted out the chain as the best song on the soundtrack... i may or may not have immediately subbed 👍😂
I have been getting a lot of great underrated comic book channels out of this “one marvelous scene” project
My stepdad never cries at movies, but Yondu really made him have to stiffen his lip to hold back.
Just came back from seeing endgame. This video really brought some things home for me and I think I'm gonna watch both Guardians again. Thank you for your breakdown of this incredible scene!
jesus didn't expect to cry watching this
I can't help but wonder how different Infinity war would be if Quill retained his powers.
Way to be a survivor man, I’m definitely subscribing just because you’re being open.
It's a perfect meme format too
Amazing video.
Everyone in my theater audibly gasped when Ego said he put the tumor in Peter’s mom
spaceship lands, peter quill gets out and turns on a walkman.
I love how Peter has no damn restraint when shooting ego, like he DOES NOT CARE that ego is his dad, kill my mom YOU FREAKIN’ DIE
"What?"
"ok, ok, I know it sounds bad.."
*gunshot*
"We'll leave nobody behind...except maybe you"
"Oh my god..."
Great video man, i agree with your views.
im glad this came up on my recommended because this is my favorite scene in Guardians because its so emotionally grounded
This blew up, good stuff man.
Best part of this video is finding out the analyst has been cancer free for so long.
holy shit it was another four years
Yeah i was about to say. The movie got delayed a few times. And still came out 4 years later. What a prediction 😂
This vid is pre pandemic so yeah.
Can we all agree that it makes sense that he would go and punch Thanos even though they had him, as an impulse, due to how his character is
I saw this movie on the big screen and I just watched it again today.
Oh my God when I saw the Mary Poppins scene again I almost cried with how much love and pure you are the best in my eyes is in the scene
Subscribed after one marvelous viewing. Thank you for your insights.
very good review. this was very enjoyable to watch.
I don’t remember much from any of the marvel movies I’ve watched but I do remember nebula crashing a ship into the weird purple grape
