I am surprised no one has pointed out that he stole ideas very much like his friend Picasso. His "Jazz" cutouts stylistically are verbatim copies of Stuart Davis' Jazz series. It's clear where he got his inspiration from. Compare @7:40 to xroads.virginia.edu/~asi/musi212/emily/davis.html. The Davis's pieces were done before 1940, and thus before Matisse had his operation, which induced the cutouts. So it was not the other way around. Great artists steal after all.
