  • The final (superb!) minutes of an awesome pub CTF match played on Citadel last night...all credit to Morphyn and AK47 TURBO who played the entire second half with 2 bots (and not the good ones !).
Team RED: Morphyn, AK47 TURBO, BOT(Clutch), BOT (Sorlag)
Team BLUE: tmp chl, Ronnie Railgun, R3patch, TigerBLUE
Team RED did start the match with four human players but "Thermostat" dropped at the 2mins mark and "Ultra Gun" dropped at the end of the first half (both players were immediately replaced by bots).
At half time the score was 2-3 thanks to some superb runs by Morphyn (making great use of the powerups!) and some excellent teamwork/support from AK47 TURBO...and the score remained that way for the first 5mins of round2...which is roughly where the video starts.
Great match ! wp guys !

This is what I call a 'sad victory'!

I disagree, I thought it was a well fought match that actually turned out (surprisingly) to be very balanced. We were 2-3 for over 6mins of the 2nd half with those sides before we finally equalized at 06:27 (game clock) and at 07:57 (game clock) they almost secured the victory...if I hadn't switched to the SMG at the right point and/or missed one of my bullets and/or Morph had 10 more health then they would have. The fact that we then played for an additional four mins in extra time (in which either side could have won...and neither side was slacking !) confirms this was very well balanced ! If I'd played badly and we still won then sure, I'd have said "sad victory" but I was playing out of my skin (imo) just to keep in it, hitting 55% rail and making some great decisions (imo). The final score table makes the bots look less effective than they were, partly because of their "heavy punchbag" style (and no keelbot with grenades) but also because they only played part of the match (so will obviously have much lower scores). All that said (and as I said in the description) massive credit to Morphyn and AK47 TURBO, they played a blinder ! The fact that those two were able to hold their own with 2 bots against tmp chl, Ronnie, R3patch (don't know him) and myself was very impressive ! VGG imo.

@@tigerblue42 We agree that the players did everything to win on both sides. From this point of view, we can say that GG.
But winning or losing with or against bots is not the same as against or with human players (whether professional or beginner).
That's why I think your victory is sad.
And it's also sad if only because it shows how low the number of player base of QC is nowadays (and/or just how many impatient quitters are).

I think that's quite a negative outlook tbh but you're welcome to your point of view. I'd rather celebrate a very tightly fought match with all human players giving their best and enjoying a very well balanced game whilst also celebrating and giving credit to the skilled play of Morphyn and AK47 TURBO.

@@Iggyb0y @tigerblue42 both are valid ways to look at it, herculean efforts of players that still made the match exciting, but people leaving matches does really bum me out. I've recently had games where despite one side having two leaver in the first minute, two players still managed to win. Seeing how the match was mostly 2v4 start from finish i looked back on it as a great game.
Atleast for me, when the situation of a game is changed mid game due to people leaving, what makes it less rewarding is that it becomes muddy as to what people really contributed to. Or "what could have been".
Can't argue with MVPs clearly being MVPs though!

I never quit pub games I've started myself and I rarely quit games I'm about to start (unless I get drafted into a Longest Yard CTF...then I make an exception ;-) as that map has no business being in the pub CTF pool)...but a lot of players do (including many players I regularly play with) and yes that is a sad phenomenon for sure. Nothing sad about a well balanced match though, whatever the team composistion. Incidentally the player that left at half time ("Ultra Gun") had a total of 19 points and a 0.5 KDR at the end of half time...if anything the bot that replaced him probably had more positive impact for the RED team than he did and the player that left 2mins in to the first half ("Thermostat") had zero points at 1.5mins in and I suspect contributed nothing to the game at all so again him leaving (or probably disconnecting) had more positive impact for the RED team. At the 2mins mark the score was 1-2 thanks to some great runs by Morph, making full use of his speed/maneuverability as Slash as well as making great use of the power ups...a large map like Citadel is taylor made for this style of play, especially when supported by another player (like AK47 TURBO). The main point I'm trying to make is that whatever the composition of the teams, this was a well balanced match (so much so that it went 4mins into extra time), could have gone either way (and very nearly did go to Team RED with just a couple of seconds of normal time to go !), everyone had a blast playing in it, everyone gg'd at the end and Team BLUE (and myself in the video description) made a point of congratulating Team RED for playing so well despite having two bots...nothing sad about that at all.
