- The next generation of games are finally being built with the modern tech and hardware in mind, pushing the envelope of photorealistic worlds, dynamic interactive physics and lifelike characters in imaginable Worlds. Much of this advancement in video games is in thanks to Unreal Engine 5 and the games have never looked better, even allowing a super secret project to finally surface that shows the promise of next level gaming.
Unreal Engine 5 is still brand new in the gaming space as developers only counted on one hand have released games on next generation consoles and PC. Right now Xbox game studios and partners are building high clip dynamic Games brought to life with the power of our Unreal Engine 5, and we will start seeing them release in the next few months.

The problem is not the hardware, its the publishers and development studios (not the ground floor devs management). Now I know I'm being an armchair developer but humor me.
Devs have always complained about hardware. Its a literal restriction on their creative vision so it makes sense. But if they wanted to sell to customers on those devices they had to make it work. Because of this devs have created techniques that really pushed gaming forward.
During the 360/PS3 generation devs came up with a technique called "texture baking". Again, armchair developer so I only have a high view of it. But the idea behind it was that you could model a low poly assest and apply a texture map to it to get high detail without the high poly count. This technique was literally created because the weak console hardware didn't have enough ram. This is how you got that amazing looking game called gears and was one of the best features of unreal 3.
X1/ps4 gen they came up with temperal reconstruction or upscaling. This was to combat the week Apu both of those console shared. This has seen various updates during the gen as well as AI version being created.
Which brings us to now. Same argument as before they need more powerful hardware but where are the new techniques and improvements? There aren't any for the most part. Outside of major engine updates (unreal) features proved by GPU makes (FSR and DLSS) devs have been largely complacent. They don't even use the feature of the consoles? How many devs use BC pack, direct storage, VRS, mesh shaders, etc? Answer is almost none cause only one of those is supported by PlayStation.
Adding those features would require them to update their rendering pipeline and workflows, which takes time and cost money. And as we've seen they won't even finish making the game before they release it let only actual optimize for hardware.

This looks really interesting. Also, I saw this being mentioned at PAX East and a certain Mr. Eastwood was playing the game on a laptop, the same clip you have in this video. 😂 When I saw it last month I was like, no way that's Colt and here we are.

The Indeira game and tech definitely look very good.
I wish game devs could be guided into taking advantage of all that UE5 will have to offer, while also taking full advantage of all RDNA2 features on the Series X/S.
Perhaps UE5 can offer dynamic resolution at 40-45 fps 🤔
Or perhaps a mid gen Series X/S refresh can allow more RDNA2 CUs? RDNA2 max CUs are 80.

I think X|S consoles are trapped in a cycle where devs are still targeting a larger market/player base and have yet to prioritize next gen tech. There's still so much potential in the hardware that has yet to be utilized. We have to continue to be patient.

The XSS is a great console and it was a clever move to release it. The only issue is RAM for certain co-op games. It’s an XSX with ~half the GPU, but displays half the resolution.
I hope devs start to take full advantage of all the tools including RDNA2 features, FSR3.0 being a big one on XSX/S.
I hope devs start to offer more dynamic settings to allow performance modes.
A mid-gen refresh to upgrade the console is a bad idea, because it ditches the ~23m existing Xbox players. Also it means devs need to develop for more SKUs which will take longer.

This game looks fun!
30 fps with high fidelity and Raytracing gives you that Cinematic Hollywood vibes, in a video game. Don't own a current-gen console yet, but seeing the Xbox Partners Game reveal of UE5 games, makes me feel like we're now entering into the Next Gen gaming landscape right now.
60fps on the other hand, even though the framerates look so smooth, looks so generic and flat.
I prefer 30 fps gaming, with Next Gen Raytracing, DOF, Motion Blur, and better lighting.
I really would like to see halo moving forward using the unreal five to blister their campaign modes to take advantage of. I’m gonna guess if it’s coming out probably six years from now or close to it that would be 2028 and it should be on the next Xbox…. specially after how infinite was handled smarter thing for them to do would be start the story start building everything from the ground up on the next Xbox that’s coming out so it’s a true next GEN launch title on whatever the new Xbox will be called showing off true next GEN graphics on unreal five pushing it to the limits .!! There won’t be another halo on the series’ X
Just thinking out of the box, with Real engine 5 realistic graphics (film like). What would happen if you ran the game at 24fps like a movie, would this work?

Game looks interesting. I will be disappointed in Microsoft and its developers if we don't see any of them starting to take real advantage of the current hardware. To me this generation won't really start until Ninja Theory releases their games. I have more faith in them to get it done. And we still haven't really seen anything from the Coalition on the hardware. Its a shame we are this far in and still waiting on the big wow factor game.

Somehow someway if they want to do it with jet set radio or even the game recore. They need to use that sunset overdrive formula. Shooting, tony hawk style arcade skating. Colorful neon fireworks city and add a great story this time around.
Yeah I play Spider Man 2 in 30 fps and dont care less about frame count. On Xbox I play Forza and Ride 5 but in 60 because racing games are supposed to be like this. Next big hit Alan Wake 2 will run 30 fps with graphics setting.

Bro, I've seen nothing to sell me on UE5 yet. Just had a terrible experience with Ark Remake which ran at 25fps on my 4080. 4090 guys are lucky to hit 40fps. It's a heavy engine and optimisation isn't good...

Unless devs downgrade to 1440p on the Series X, I don't think many of these UE5 games will be 60FPS.

The question is are devs really basically make 2 versions of a digital game? I think the Xbox Series X could pull off 4K 60 fps now but since they also have the series S it’s just not economically feasible to make a game specific to series S especially considering more Series S consoles have sold.
Yeah you can shoot around corners & over cover, but if you look closely it's actually a auto-aim system. You can spot it easy when he kills that first enemy as instantly after it locks onto the last enemy standing.

Micosoft is worried about Epic Games making video game console. This is why they merge with Activision. UE could make chip run faster than traditional software run. Hardware does the job.

Colt buddy. Big fan of you and Xbox. But xbox should not have said 4k 60fps BASELINE performance prior to the release of its new consoles. Sony Bs as well. Also Amd F2.0 look like someone wiped a babies full nappy across my screen. The reason i have stopped buying 3rd party games on consoles this year is because a) they are either too choppy in action games eg dead space remake..or look too washed out in 60fps peformance. PS5 is guilty of that more than series x. 2 titles so far i have played this year and as an xbox fan i can say dead island 2 and rws evil 4 remake both on ps5 were acceptable..re4 was....just over the line. Again i haven't played EVERYTHING but i play a lot. This whole cross platforming to prior gen and split between you can only have fidelity or you can have 60 fps is BS Colt. Both companies are guility of lies. At most over sensationalism. On a scale as bad as the recent switch MK1 port using footage of anywhere but the switch. I have been playing since doom 1 and 2 came out i prior to that i was obsessed with 16bit. Retuning to consoles on xbox 360 and xbox one i am now less and less interested in all these promises... i know not everyone can afford console and pc or high tier pc..but ffsakes. This small dev is what Xbox needs imo they need a army of this 20-30 dev teams making smaller games smaller in budget but with game pass they could really give them a aaa development cycle of 5+

Yeah graphics are nice and lighting is cool but really breaks the immersion when an enemy just runs in place on a wall, our every enemy follows the exact same path as every other npc, anyway I don’t have to list everything we know.

Yeah but "modern tech" and "modern hardware" can't handle these next gen games. These "next gen" consoles that are the PS5 / Xbox Series X can't handle these games coming out. You have to drop the resolution to below 1080P to even get upscaled without any next gen features. Just to barely hit 30 fps. The hardware got left in the dust by the new software. These consoles are not aging well....AT ALL.
