If I ever had the money to build a house, I'm pretty sure it would be all hemp and timber...all things considered...simply the best materials by far...healthy, ecological and long lasting...
Check tiny house in youtube. Those you can build under 10K€ and depending on area should not require building permits if movable. Biggest costs will come from setting up electric box on your property for RV style junction box, buying that property and paying all those fucking taxes from it. Waste systems you can build to be RV style, or underground closed system, what then waste disposal truck comes to empty for time to time (bit more expenses on permits, building and maintaining, but beats shoveling shit). Get truck trailer, or sea container as a base and start building top of that. If need arises just call truck and tell them to pick it up and drive where your moving. I would do this, but i need way more room for my hobbies, so regular house will do, unless i chance my life completely.
Build small. One room at a time keep costs down. I have lived in 200 sq ft studio apartment. With the 4:1:1 is R-vaule of 2.4 per inch. Great information.
love this video and your spirit|positive energy. I love hempcrete and have some community and global ideas for this healing plant. Thank you both for sharing
Wow..very informative video .. Could iron bars be part of the internal prefab framework & then hemp poured around to ensure added strength as a wall...or roof..or first floor slab...(similar to an RCC iron reinforced slab) ? If yes...then what would be the strength ratio by comparison to a similar thickness RCC iron reinforced slab?.
Why not use hemp cellulose and a foaming agent that gardens under UV light? Like foam concrete that cures under UV light? You could 3D print a whole house on site saving a lot of cost.
Sounds like a great idea! The only thing I can think of that might make it prohibitive is the cost of the UV resin... I know that stuff is pretty expensive for small scale printers.
How do I make my own hempcrete? What is the lime based binder? What is it entailing, and how is it made etc? If you have a problem with that electrical wire you are covering up you will have to destroy the wall to get to it. wouldnt it make more sense to simply do it as a block house and then put the electric in like a commercial situation? Not as residential of course but more practical.
I'm currently studying to become a landscape architect and this product has really captured my attention. Does anyone know how well it does in outdoor conditions (weathering, water infiltration, pollution, etc.)?
What was used to grind the hemp up? How many Hemp blocks can an acre of Hemp make? Is this simply a dried hemp plant ground up or is it treated with anything? Corn stalks are strong as hell as well, could you use corn stalks in the same manner? Dry them and then grind them as filler?
Hi so do you know the expected lifespan of hempcrete builds? All I find is the time for it to cure at the build. Also wondering how much hemp I'd need to grow per cubic foot of hempcrete? Planning to farm my own for seed sales & eventually have enough fiber for my home 🙌 Thanks so much!
If you use hempcrete for insulation, do you need drywall? or you just plaster over it? I have an old house and I don't like using chemicals and love the idea of this and doing it myself
How resistant is this to water/rain during the building process? If you f.a.e have made half a wall, and want to leave it overnight, and it starts to rain?
I grow quite a bit of Hemp with 4 people in my household in California each one can have 12 plants. So after my harvest there are usually have quite a few branches and stems and trunks left over. How would I process my leftover stems and branches in order to make the herd material you’re talking about? I have a 8 hp chipper/schreader, would that work?
How long does it take for hemp to dry completely? Also I have seen people add the lime and water together first and then mix with hemp - does it matter?
This works with pretty much any veggie fiber: bamboo, ground wood waste, even old newspaper. I'm interested in the compression strength of hemp v other fibers. Does hemp make a usable masonry unit or is it just filler?
No. You need a more cementitious product for that. Hempcrete floats on water, so thin applications would not be suitable to fix ponding water. There are things like Henry Ponding Patch or even pool plaster that are much better suited to standing water.
Exactly. Residential codes don't require conduit, but it's really the best way to do things. There is also the option of exterior conduit should major rewiring be required.
I don't believe the cost is relevant for this type of material. It's what other benefits you'll get from using organic matter like hemp instead of concrete.
No, pressure treated wood is for decks and sill plates, places where there is water present. Otherwise, pressure treating is unnecessary, certainly you don't want it in a place where you could get a splinter from it, that stuff is nasty! You can get major infections from PT splinters!
Depends on your climate. You are using hemp as your insulation material. In most US climates you probably want more than 3.5 inches of insulation. Plus, they are showing here how to embed the frame inside the hemp casting. In this video their frame members are just 2x2s, for a real wall you would want a frame that meets code in your jurisdiction.
It looks great :-)? ONE ISSUE! As the electric mains cable is going to be surrounded by insulating hempcreate: The Current Carrying Capacity for that cable, is going to get derated to 50%! Had suitable conduit tubing been used: Adequate room for heat dispersal & access for maintenance or upgrade would be allowed ;-) For safety reasons: Get a Qualified Electrical Engineer to do a safe & accountable instillation ;-)
That's not true at all. There is no problem in the current NEC with having insulation over romex. And since they used appropriate boxes, maintenance access is unimpeded.
Although I would absolutely put this in some ENT just for ease of access for future upgrades. 1" PVC or some 1" Carlon flex ENT tubing would be perfect for a project like this.
actually, hempcrete isn't flammable from what i've read. US code doesn't require conduits for inner-wall cabling. Not sure what the code says about in-wall cabling with hempcrete fill..
"It doesn't get any better than that", WHAT!? Try rammed earth, or earth bricks, or aircrete. There are so many building options with no way to say one is better than any other. The question truly comes down to location.
Yes, it seems that hempcrete might be good for some applications, but overall cob would be better (and cheaper). Maybe hempcrete for interior walls? And aircrete would be good but has very limited application. I've always wanted to build a cooling tower and yakhchāl with aircrete. Maybe there could be a way to apply hempcrete like aircrete?
Well, yeah, like there are lots of locations that rammed earth or earth bricks wouldn't be as good as hempcrete because hempcrete is superior insulation. That makes it far more versatile than any of the earth builds.
Hello, my name is Camren Dale Brewer and I'd like to ask for your support in starting a non-profit organization using recycled paper and hemp to make hemp/papercrete to supply cheap and sustainable housing for the less fortunate and impoverished.
This is OK for volunteer and do-it-yourself labor, but it is way too labor-intensive for professional builders. It really needs to be made up into tilt-up wall panels in a factory if it's ever going to penetrate mainstream US homebuilders.
Size the blocks so they can be used with or in place of CMUs. But it would need to be done at the plant, rather than on-site. Limetec has started making tilt-up hempcrete panels though.
One HUGE ISSUE! this would def fall apart in the long run. Anyone who has done any construction or concrete would definely know the problems w/ this! im not saying this isnt a good idea to think outside the box but most plants Rot in the long run thus causing probs!
kevin hilt sir from what i know hemp petrifies with time thus actually becomes stronger with time. There is a bridge in france made of hempcrete that is 1500 years old.
There is so much stuff you don't know.. (which is theory is ok, until you make statements as the one you just made..) about plants and what part is used here, about alternative to modern building constructions which are based on a different system quite like older buildings, which use lime and are based on breathability, about how rot works, how lime works in preventing rot, on how much moisture this kind of materials can deal with.. :) do your homework then pass judgment!
At the end, so very true about hemp; "It just doesn't get any better than that". *Hemp Hemp Hooray!*
If I ever had the money to build a house, I'm pretty sure it would be all hemp and timber...all things considered...simply the best materials by far...healthy, ecological and long lasting...

I CANT WAIT TO BUILD TOO 😍
Build small. One room at a time keep costs down. I have lived in 200 sq ft studio apartment. With the 4:1:1 is R-vaule of 2.4 per inch. Great information.
Excellent presentation on Hempcrete. Keep it coming.
Wow this is amazing information. Thank you for sharing 😃
Wonderful~!! from south Korea
love this video and your spirit|positive energy. I love hempcrete and have some community and global ideas for this healing plant. Thank you both for sharing

Great video . Can a person build a privacy fence with this stuff?
cool in small batches, but i wanna see a freaking house built with this!
neosmith80 come to ashville, NC. 1st hempcrete home built in America was built here for the former mayor, about 10 years ago.
Thank you for sharing. I was wondering if this material is just as good in a cold climate?
Amazing 👍🥳🎉
Super. What soils wil Hemp grow on?
Why not use hemp cellulose and a foaming agent that gardens under UV light? Like foam concrete that cures under UV light? You could 3D print a whole house on site saving a lot of cost.
i need people like you on my team
Any examples?
How would UV light reach the center of the block?
Sounds like a great idea! The only thing I can think of that might make it prohibitive is the cost of the UV resin... I know that stuff is pretty expensive for small scale printers.
Cost of processing the cellulose down from the original stalks is too expensive
How do I make my own hempcrete? What is the lime based binder? What is it entailing, and how is it made etc?

Hi! I am just wondering if you became a landscape artist, and if you work with this product at all?
What does a landscape artisan do? Draw landscapes?
You are amazing thank you for the education
how long, considering the mix was perfect, do you leave the form on to let the Hempcrete firm up before you take the form off
What was used to grind the hemp up? How many Hemp blocks can an acre of Hemp make? Is this simply a dried hemp plant ground up or is it treated with anything?
Corn stalks are strong as hell as well, could you use corn stalks in the same manner? Dry them and then grind them as filler?
So, question. If it can be used as a soil amendment, would it then invite pests to eat the walls? Or will it begin to rot if it gets wet?
Hi so do you know the expected lifespan of hempcrete builds? All I find is the time for it to cure at the build. Also wondering how much hemp I'd need to grow per cubic foot of hempcrete? Planning to farm my own for seed sales & eventually have enough fiber for my home 🙌 Thanks so much!
Growing your own and seed harvest on some land out a bit from the rat race land should be cheaper or rent a pice off land too grow some hemp
Thanks!!! Am assuming these ratios are by volume .. not weight .. ; )
Is this 4-1-1 ratio meant by mass or by volume? Many thanks :)
I think its a mass.
Question: Can Hemp be replaced witg straw, of ground Flag..??
Thank for you clip very much.
Can this be used to make raised garden beds?
I grow quite a bit of Hemp with 4 people in my household in California each one can have 12 plants. So after my harvest there are usually have quite a few branches and stems and trunks left over.
How would I process my leftover stems and branches in order to make the herd material you’re talking about?
I have a 8 hp chipper/schreader, would that work?
they stole this video from another channel if you have any questions go to evohemp on youtube and search this video
Do you know if you can build a temperate home in the US without a permit?
How long does it take for hemp to dry completely? Also I have seen people add the lime and water together first and then mix with hemp - does it matter?
This works with pretty much any veggie fiber: bamboo, ground wood waste, even old newspaper. I'm interested in the compression strength of hemp v other fibers. Does hemp make a usable masonry unit or is it just filler?
Hemp is low-density, non-structural only (at this time).
Bonne idée
Not a lot of this stuff in my area - what about Spanish Moss crete or Pine Straw crete?
I did this in 1995. Missouri
Question, which part of the plant do you use to make the hemp Crete?
The hurd, the woody center of the hemp plant.
What is the lime BINDER, is it just lime or what, what are the specs to make lime-binder
I would be interested in building a small garden shed with hemp. Any thoughts on the minimum thickness the walls could be?
Standard 12 inches
Awesome!
What is the life cycle of the house built out of the material ?
Can the hemp herd be made out of regular Sativa stock? Or does it have to be a different strain?
People who smoke weed are so much more happier. :(
Ho Lee Fock because we smoke weed
And useless... :(
Can I use other plant fiber? In My country hemp is prohibited!
Create short video! Where can I order hemp?
Try egg yolk and honey wax paste
This lady is crazy...in a good way😁
Will grass or hay work with concrete.....
could it be used on a flat roof to fix pooling areas?
No. You need a more cementitious product for that. Hempcrete floats on water, so thin applications would not be suitable to fix ponding water. There are things like Henry Ponding Patch or even pool plaster that are much better suited to standing water.
Can i make waterspouts, drainpipes out of hemp and how do i mold it?
So how much does it cost per square foot to build a house from this?
internet is saying $60 extra per square foot.
So unless you do it yourself....
Can you use sawdust, instead of hemp?
u can replace hemp with cheaper agro waste locally avilable like husk/shredded stubble of wheat or rice as well
Is the 4:1:1 ratio by weight?
4:1:1 mix is by volume or weight?
I'm kind of curious how you would go about fixing wiring in your house wiring wasn't done right
Desiree Cormier break off the hempcrete, fix the wiring, then recast the hemocrete you broke off. She mentioned it can be recasted in the video.
Run all wiring in conduit, so that one could completely rewire the structure without demolition or recasting.
Exactly. Residential codes don't require conduit, but it's really the best way to do things. There is also the option of exterior conduit should major rewiring be required.
Can that be used to make bird nest boxes?
The question to me is How much does a yard of Hempcrete cost vs a yard of concrete?
I don't believe the cost is relevant for this type of material. It's what other benefits you'll get from using organic matter like hemp instead of concrete.
Is it a certain species of Hemp? And which binder exactly?
😐Wait if casting is Hempcrete. Then forging
could make HempAxe 😣✊! So we shall become HempKnights!
Hemp SHips HempPirates!
Hello! What is the lime based binder you use?
is the binder just natural lime stone
Can this be used for insulating home walls?
how or where can i get the hemp hulls? if i do grow it how do you harvest it and chop it up? i think its the stems?
HotHorses1 hemp hurds, Google them, easy to find good luck
How far will 500’ lbs go
Don't you have to use pressure-treated wood? I'm just curious - don't building codes require that exposed wood be protected in some way?
I meant both the wood used in the framing and used in the trim. Not any wood used in the forms.
No, pressure treated wood is for decks and sill plates, places where there is water present. Otherwise, pressure treating is unnecessary, certainly you don't want it in a place where you could get a splinter from it, that stuff is nasty! You can get major infections from PT splinters!
Would hempcrete be usable with Earth bags?
is cbd from hemp stalk vs hemp seed the same type of cbd? or does hemp stalk have more cbd than the hemp seeds?
hemp seeds dont have any CBD in them at all! CBD is found in the leaves mainly but also in the stems. www.caliberbio.com/
Please teach me!!
she s wonderful
But does it protect against thieves and break-ins?
Probably better than any other wall. Consider better doors and windows.
Hi, is a 2X4 wall cavity thick enough for Hempcrete?
Depends on your climate. You are using hemp as your insulation material. In most US climates you probably want more than 3.5 inches of insulation. Plus, they are showing here how to embed the frame inside the hemp casting. In this video their frame members are just 2x2s, for a real wall you would want a frame that meets code in your jurisdiction.
Who knows a good place to get this kind of hemp fibers ?
The farm...
It's called chaff anywhere else, you probably could use wheat just as well
where does your lime come from
They make 1"x2" OSB boards
Since when is lime gray and not white
WHERE IS THE PART THAT YOU ALL SMOKE WEED..?????🤣😂👍🏻🌴🌴🌴
That looks like cement you are using not lime 🤔
It looks great :-)?
ONE ISSUE! As the electric mains cable is going to be surrounded by insulating hempcreate: The Current Carrying Capacity for that cable, is going to get derated to 50%!

that makes no sense to me
@@DriveCarToBar , Mike, if there is a problem with the electric line itself you will have to bust out the entire block wall to get to it.
If they made the forms out of hempwood they could just leave the whole thing up.
Ocean water ...and bam
So can you come and build my basement for me.
1:27 naked cable 🙈 use conduits
actually, hempcrete isn't flammable from what i've read. US code doesn't require conduits for inner-wall cabling. Not sure what the code says about in-wall cabling with hempcrete fill..
We're in the middle of a climate emergency and the building industry is sitting on it ass when it COULD be doing this.

The good part is that it creates a new place to use industrial hemp, which is good because you cant get high on industrial hemp.
Friendly Local Where did you learn the pros and cons of earth builds over Hempcrete builds?
So where is point ? Natural hemp and chemical cement? Eco wall ?? Hehe
Lime is the oldest binder of them all,not a chemical.Natural!

This woman has smoked too much hemp.
Too time consuming.
Capitalism is the crisis!!!!!!!!
Word of advice when doing a how to “anything hemp related” don’t sounds crazy. You will scare people away.
