What I believe happened was that the show was originally supposed to be more action-oriented, but after one episode, the team swiftly realized that that wasn’t an option with the budget they were given, so they leaned more into the comedy. They gave us a gem of a show that we didn’t truly appreciate until it was gone.
My favorite scene is in one episode, the gang was trying to beat the heat with a giant fan. Cue somewhat funny moments. Then there’s a hard cut to Eggman…
Eggman: This heat is more oppressive than my father.
More oppressive than my father is a rough one, lol.
According to writer Alan Denton, they also were taking advantage of one more unfortunate thing.
Like many licensed shows at the time, Cartoon Network moved the show to Boomerang, which has lower ratings due to only being on certain satellite plans. So they figured they had nothing to lose with these lower ratings.
I remember my annoyance of how this and Pokémon XY were aired so early in the morning, I had to record it. Cartoon Network was not kind to non original shows at that point
That sounds really close to what happened with "Needless" they tried making a high octane anime with a lot of action and serious moments.
After the first episode they said "F*ck it" and went 80% comedy with 20% everything else

And considering the comics/games claimed he was as strong as Sonic is fast, the Sonic Boom look makes more sense then his usual scrawny build. (unless his strength is supposed to be 100% a mutation/supernatural, or magic, like all the speedster StH characters are)

Love this show, the games were super bad but the writing in this was often comedy gold.
Should clarify the "Sonic Boom" games were bad, but a lot of that was publisher intervention.
They were largely unfinished and rushed.... as usual. Cool ideas though.
The scenes did look pretty fun. I remember watching the game grumps play the game with pause screen flying knuckles.

@@ZackGoWee Honestly, one thing Sonic 06 has going for it is that every playthrough is slightly different due to the sheer scale of how badly it was put together and how little time it had to be debugged at a time where we didn't have downloadable patches yet. It's broken in a fun way. Lyric had its moments but it wasn't all that enjoyable.

The reason why this show is so unhinged is because,if I recall correctly,they didn't specifically scheduled the broadcasting of the show on an hour where kids would be watching television(I hope everything I said makes sense,being hispanic is hard).For that reason,there were some choices that are nothing short of unhinged lmao

So Sonic Boom was a show that kinda went back to the 80' and 90's style of cartoons structure, being Episodic, joke filled jaunts, twnding to break the 4th wall a TON and was made just as much for kids as for the older fans of sonic, calling out certain tendencies of the fanbase, Sonic, Tails and Eggman were pretty much the same, but tails stuff tends to backfire in some way, Knuckles became a Buff himbo that was dumb most of the time, but occasionally said stuff very smart and progressive, Amy became a extreme Twitter feminist, and the new character, Sticks the badger was the one conspiracy nut that sometimes was right on the nose, they tended to go really meta with their jokes, hence all the jokes about not wearing pants,or jokes about the voice actors themselves with adult humor mixed in (why when tails brought eggman the tiny towel, he thought he was being mocked) or how some fans were super creepy and had an abundance of Sonic NSFW fanfiction
It left Anime behind, and went Merry Melodies, lol.

Some episodes are just back to back banger moments, but there are points where you could probably ignore not being a joke, but it is sometimes they make fun of of the sonic franchise itself

Got a odd combo today, spicy potato tacos with prickly pear Celsius to drink. How ya feelin'? This show is shockingly self aware, I'd heard it was pretty good, but I didn't realize that the comedy was this well written. Respect to the script writers who were brave enough to fight the biggest little kid to establish dominance.

This show was such a fever dream, full of fourth wall breaks, silly dialogue and just sheer self awareness. So much better than the game.

This show is actual gas, no lie.
For the context of this show: Sonic Boom is a parody of how SonicFans (or most likely anyone who dosn't know too much of Sonic character's/lore) They interpret for example Knuckles being an literally knucklehead instead of an lonley (and probably has depression) Guardian who wants to be more than just an guardian and be more free even if he can be a little easy to manipulate he is a good and strong character on every way. This series wanted to be an own separate story most focused of comedy and how absurd the Sonic character's can get. Sadly this show got bad reception for the bad decisions Sega made with their videogames, Sonic Boom Fire and Ice is an actually not bad game but the WII U got a lot of problems and... The rest is story

With some of these scenes, and episode plots, its important to know that these are from 11 minute episodes, not 45 minutes, not even 22 minutes, but 11 minutes. As with all 11 minute shows (or as I like to call them, half-length episodes), its episode length affects the pacing and complexity of the episodes. Still funny tho, and I hope to see Sticks in future shows/comics/games.

While I do wish for character development on Amy, there's so much wrong with her writers have almost no idea where to start. So they just keep her as a comedy prop when needed, or for her hammer when needed. For those who don't know in the old comics she was about 7 when she used the chaos emeralds to wish to be old enough to be romantically involved with Sonic. Sonic is very much aware of this, which is why in earlier shows he avoided her advancements.
Definitely would make a fun let's watch series.
