Ustad Rashid Khan has made his name shine along with the legendary Hindustani Classical Music veterans. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi once pointed out that with Contemporary singers like Rashid Khan the future of Hindustani Classical music is quite secure. Ustaad Rashid Khan was born in a musical family. He hails from the famous Rampur Sahaswan Khayal Gharana. Rashid khan is the grandson of legendary Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan sahib who happened to be the founder of the Rampur Sahaswan Khayal Gharana. Though Rashid as a child was under the tutelage of his maternal uncle Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan. Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan was a strict disciplinarian and put young Rashid through rigid training. This strict training though was not very enjoyable for young Rashid but payed off in building the unique Taankari and laykari that Ustad Rashid Khan is now famous for.
