This is an excellent video. Certainly one of the more difficult concepts to convey to a new student.

That first fill sounds similar to something Bonham would play. I hear a little Black Dog/ Rock and Roll there. Very smooth.

Nice lesson. Well put and easy to understand. Freddie would add other dimensions to the approach (dialog)...but in essence saying the same thing.

Bruce, love your teaching and explanation. I have a question about stick position in the hand (This is German match grip, BTW). I'm playing Vic Firth 5Bs and I find that I get maximum resonance out of the stick when I'm choked way back (typically when my middle fingers are directly under the number 5 on the stick). That said, I feel I have less control down there. I think I remember you talking about the balance point on the Vic Firth sticks somewhere around the flag (or even closer to the "H") on the stick. I feel I have more control with my hands choked up to that point (especially when trying to use my fingers, a la the system or push-pull), but I have a lot of trouble getting stick resonance off of the pad. Any thoughts? Thanks so much in advance....
