- Forza Motorsport is a game I enjoy more than most, but winning "Racing/Sports Game of the Year" at The Game Awards is outrageous. It's bugged beyond what anyone would call a reasonable amount, it's lacking many of the features people have been crying out for, and it's turned a lot of players, new and old, off the series. Awards like this bring something to light: reviewers and the media are clueless about racing games, and have no idea what makes a good one, or what made people fall in love with some of their favourites in the past.

You can't be this stupid anymore. The trick got old since mid-2010s. Either make an actually fun game, or stop wasting everyone's time. No game of the year hides how bland racing games are.

When forza can't even get the graphics right, you know it's in trouble. It's all they had to show for years and practically none of it made it to the final game.

@@fifteen8850 they're a huge downgrade over what was advertised and have a bunch of objective technical issues and cutbacks.
If you think it looks good, that's fine, but the tech and assets are measurably worse in a lot of areas.

You would think that having unlocked settings on the one platform where they could unleash all the tech they have in store would be a no brainer but they somehow fucked that too.
Graphics are the least of its issues. It's everything I hated about older GT, short races with terrible AI. But at least those games still had some passion behind them.

IMO it's less about Forza winning and more about the absolute state of sports and racing games in 2023 (and beyond) where this edition of Forza was able to even get close to winning an award, much less actually getting the honor.
The only reward this game deserves is the bin
I'm surprised that EA Sports WRC and Ride 5 weren't nominated. The competition felt pretty weak, with Motorfest deserving to win over Motorsport.

@@JustDevon what bums me out is that this game is my first time trying out a Forza motorsport game, my experience with Fh5 at the beginning was alright but after playing it for 1.5 months it felt very lackluster and dull
As a PC player, my FM experience was horrendous, crashing after every single race in SP was not cool, making me grind multiplayer in order to unlock parts, I've heard they made it better but unfortunately I don't have the time to play it. Kind of annoying how racing games in general are excruciatingly bad in this decade. We seriously need a Midnight club game :(

Get an emulator and try out the first one. It will blow your socks off. FM4 is another goodie but I don't know how the 360s emulation is, better off buying the console itself for that one and I think they are relatively cheap.
Hi-Fi Rush got the sound award thankfully. It actually got nominated for a lot of categories, really happy about that if nothing else. That game really deserves the recognition.

Thats the first DLC that Forza Motorsport bought himself...thanks to Microsoft i guess.
The judges clearly based their decision on watching the trailer rather than actually playing the game. A game that has an official bug list that is not only 4 pages long but is also full of typos isn't deserving of any kind of award except maybe whatever the video game version of Razzies is.
The game came out 62 days ago and replays still don't work
as a forza fan I can honestly say this forza motorsports game definitely 100% without a doubt with so much confidence I can say it shouldn't have got any awards at all at fukn ALLLL

Only real gamers playing those games has the right to vote for choosing best games. I don't care for the choices of others. Even on metacritic I look at user reviews, and don't care for professional site reviews.

The game awards have always been about what is most popular so you'll never know what was really great by watching the game awards. Basically a coin toss. In terms of my favorite racing game ever, it would have to be PGR4. That was where I first got into leaderboards and just loved the heck out of that game. 2nd would probably be fm4 or fm7, like a year after launch once all the problems got fixed. Thought fm7 was really great by then. For fm games at launch, fm4 would for sure be my favorite in the fm lineup.

Seems like Turn 10 should have been focusing on good racing content instead of weather for the last 10 years… like getting a dry, clear, daytime race only happens about 1/5 times for me. Should have called this game Weather Simulator 2023
this is just scandalous! what a fricking farce this is. if they give FM this "reward" then im absolutly positive that no one, not a single person, that hands out and votes for game of the year awards has absolutly no fricking clue what they voted for.
wich brings me to the next question: if FM got GotY, how many games had gotten that title in previous years that were not worthy.

I used to be a real Forza junkie, but sadly I've only played this game about a half-dozen times since I bought it. Each time I've played it I'm thinking "why am I playing this?" Granted the MP is better and I have an "S" safety rating and a skill level where I'm not getting stuck in lobbies where I'm getting rammed all over the place. So that's a plus. But the rest of the game? Seriously? An award? 7 years to remake Forza 5?

Turn10 obviously removed a lot of content to add it slowly via monthly updates and convince people to stay subscribed. As someone who mainly plays racing games in general (Forza MS and Horizon, + GT7), I rather buy the game than subscribe Game Pass because I like to own the game and not simply rent it. Also, I don't subscribe Game Pass monthly, maybe just one month per year to try some games and buy those I like.
I wish I had waited to try it on GP. As it stands it feels like a total waste of money.
I like the driving in forza, but it's clearly a game that was rushed out the door.
Almost everything is either buggy or could have a better implementation.
It winning the game awards just shows how quality isn't take in consideration.

Some of my friends were talking about which game would win this category (before the event). I told them that I wouldn't be surprised if Forza won, and... yeah, I wasn't surprised to see Forza win haha.

Couldn't care less about the game awards, but I really love Forza,but I am someone who plays exclusively multiplayer, in fact I have never bothered with single player on any racing game since the PS2 era including all the old Forza games. Nothing can replicate racing real people so can never understand the single player gripes. This game is everything I wanted it to be for me personally. It's great it won racing game of the year but how often has your movie or album of the year won an oscar or a Grammy? It means nothing in the grand scheme of things

@syphe0 personally I don't hate the game. But it's just so massively disappointing after 6 years of waiting, then this. Tripe. . There is a decent game in there somewhere. Just buried under all the bugs and other silly ideas.

This might have the effect of taking some heat off devs, which is not a good thing for anyone. They fucked up big time, and they should be working their asses off changing things, not sitting back admiring undeserved awards.

Not defending Forza Motorsport but I prefer it a lot more than Crew Motorfest which got boring so fast compared to Need for Speed Unbound which I enjoyed WAY more. I honestly think Forza won because it was the least bad if that makes sense.

The Forza Horizon games are just absolutely incredible, all games have shortcomings and I know Horizon isn't any different. Forza Motorsport parallels Horizon but you'd expect the quality to be equally as good. The car mechanics on motorsport are just bad and they're not utilizing the "touted" huge increase in physics resolution. Performance should also be a lot better, I have looked at CPU core utilization but I doubt it's being done well.
Idk, does it deserve the award, no, but it was a weak year. Of all the games the Hot Wheels one was the one I have the most fun with and go back to more than. Any besides the Forza game. If WRC was there that's would be my pick

I've only played one of the nominees and watched gameplay of 3 of the others. Don't think I could pick a winner, but I definitely could pick who didn't deserve to win.

Good video. Honestly I wish somebody could make Turn 10 and Xbox sit down and watch some RUclips videos about how shit Forza games (both Horizon and, more importantly in my opinion, Motorsport) have become.
It was up against 4 other games, so does that mean it only needed 20.1% of the vote to win with the other votes diluted across the others? It makes the end result pretty laughable, but that % is something I can still see it getting even without widespread support. The reviewer scores were wild though considering how it takes less than 5 minutes to fall foul of the AI's driving standards.

Physics are good for me especially feeling the difference when tweeking but ive only got experience with wheel last 5 yrs on Xbox plus it looks great but I'd probably think it's sh!t if i had a PC with AC with mods or AMS2 etc so bugs n all after all this development time is p!ss poor but for me who doesn't do online that often and having to deal with the nutty AI it is what it is.
Obviously mass complaining gets things corrected so more the merrier but atleast FM is now ongoing but us FM Xbox sim racers we can only sing

Only play the online racing and rivals and I'm having fun, further than that I havent found anything else interesting.
I had a ten-employee company, and it happened all the time marketing event companies called me. Pay to win the best company of the year. I guess the majority of those awards are just sold. Xbox needed a game with some awards 😂 even if it is on Steam, mostly negative. I guess they should not have launched the game on PC so they could hide stuff.
By the way, the game is not too bad, but the issue is there are superior options out there.
As someone who bought the ultimate edition, I gave it **. Such an uninspired title, boring career, short races (with no option to increase them like in 7) and truly terrible AI, even worse than FM 7. PD must be over the moon. Gone back to PC 2.

The lego game fucking slaps tho from a game design standpoint its a great game. Crew motorfest is also very good
As with most reviews, this awards stuff is to be ignored completely. I can enjoy stuff that has mostly negative reviews and not enjoy stuff that everyone is wild about. Opinions are personal, so why take into account another person's opinion?
They can be useful, for sure, but you have to take them for what they are; opinions. Information is so much more important and to fetch out the pieces that are important for you has become so much more difficult. Like you pointed out, if the review talks mostly about graphics, I do not care as I am not looking for the most beautiful racer out there (and I would not be able to play it on those high quality settings anyway).
Forza Motorsport has so many shortcomings and bugs, but the overall experience for me is the best I ever had (PC player, so only started with FM6 Apex). Is that sufficient to be granted this award, I think not, but then again that too is just an opinion. An opinion of a person who did not play any of the other titles, so what is it worth in the end. Very little to nothing.
If the game had maybe more time to devlop and had more community tests like Riders Republic it would be a whole lot better. I dont have an xbox but from what ive seen its a good game and a bad game at the same time. One time it's beautiful and fun and others it looks like Horizon 3 un vroad daylight and is buggy

@@alyelloy1028 turn 10 had nothing to do with fable it was all playground games, get you facts right, we never know exactly how long its been made, but the gap is still 6 years from last game, witch is 3 times longer than it use to be, a lot of false marketing has caught up,to them to, its the most buggy racing game to ever being released and with that big gap this is nothing you should expect, and then you have the bad fomo career content it should be permant, inaccurate recycled car models still in 2023

Completely useless AI should also be mentioned. This games single player component is utterly threadbare, and in no way linked to real life Motorsport. The same soulless cutscenes and voice overs for every single race, and the same take the lead and the AI gives up / don't overtake the lead car by turn 4 and its impossible to catch up, every single race.
i think the worst part of this is now microsoft / turn10 exec's think its okay to release this garbage consistently now

I don't know. I think you can dislike this game as much as you want, but I don't know if the competition was very good this year. The Crew Motorfest was entirely unoriginal and a copy paste formula stolen from PGG. Same with Hot Wheels, and Lego 2K. The only argument you can make for a different winner is The Crew Motorfest, which I don't think deserves the award anymore than Forza Motorsport.
I think FM23 is a game developed by people that really care and love racing, even though it's short-sighted for content, and has some visual bugs and glitches.

I hope this game leaves game pass, Theres no point bringing out a title like this and iviting people to play it who couldn't drive a car in real life never mind in a game, You'll get more out of this game in the single player than you'll ever get playing it online.
When they can't drive a car the only fun left to have is to ruin the enjoyment of those that can. Maybe placing a charge on this game will do well to serve those who want to take it seriously.
You can discount the entire bug list, the technical issues, the fact the game looks worse in many ways than the Forza titles from the 360. Discount all of that, And this game doesnt even come close to deserving racing game of the year. And it hasnt been a particularly good racing game year. Its just Forza is one of the worst ones. Hotwheels would have been my pick. F1 just flat out has more to do in the game to make it a game. Even the crew, which I cannot stand the handling of, deserves it more. The EA rally game is much better as well. Theres no dimension where this game earned this award on any of its merits. The multiplayer is good, its not that good. Its not better than all else. Its just a joke and they should be mocked.

This video is not a criticism of why motorsport won. This is a criticism of the game in general, with no comparisons to other games, or reasons it was worse than the competition. that's fine as a critique of the game, but extremely poor journalism as a comparison to the other games it's up against.
With the context of the competition, Motorsport is definitely the best game of the year. The Crew Motor Fest is equally poorly reviewed, but people criticized TCM for its gameplay design and general features. Forza Motorsport is poorly reviewed, but people are angry because of extremely minor graphical bugs that have zero effect on the gameplay. With Forza people also complain that "the game doesn't have x feature form x forza game" but everyone has a different specific feature that they want.
Is Forza Motorsport the best racing game ever? no obviously not. Is Forza Motorsport clearly the best racing game that came out this year? Yes by absolute miles.
