Protect this man and his chanel at all cost 🙏🏼
Thanks Alami
Coming from a FLX-4 2 years ago as a complete beginner to DJing, only to return to this pearl of a channel for my upgrade. Thanks, you guys are awesome.
Enjoy your AZ!
Literally took delivery of my XDJ-AZ yesterday from the guys and girls at WestEnd DJ. This is a good watch. Thanks.
Glad to help, DJ Miguel!
Oh fancy mine will be here in a few hours. How perfect to watch this while i wait.
I bet you can't wait, and I hope we help you to kill the time.
Best tutorial on the Web for getting started with this unit.
Every single aspect was covered , we thank you for this 💪
Thanks! Glad it helped you
Fantastic info Phil! Been DJ'ing for 4 years now and this is by far one of the most extensive and useful videos I have seen regarding gear/equipment.. And it's free! Keep up the great work.
Thanks!
Phil, thank you so much for sharing this extremely valuable information! This is pure gold to me with my recent XDJ AZ purchase! I’ve been a student of yours for 10+ years in a variety of your DJ courses and appreciate everything you do for the community and my own growth. My appreciated brotha. Keep up the good work! 🙏🏼
It's my pleasure! Thanks for your kind words - much appreciated.
Nah man I admire your commitment to the Dj community so much. As soon as I get this controller I am gonna buy your curse for sure.
Appreciate the support!
Great video Phil, respect xx I think this will be my next purchase - when it finally reaches Australia lol. Love your work, thank you.
we love you too man!
I hope you find it in stock soon! Keep up the good work yourselves.
Hey phil your videos are great. Started watching your channel when I started djing and now I had to sell my table because of financial debts but hopefully a miracle will happen and I can get my console again🙏 thank you for keeping that dream alive for me with theses in depth videos getting me excited for my dream table!!
I’m glad you are enjoying the videos and hope you get back to where you want to be!
Thank you, just got my controller yesterday and this really helps me on how everything works.
You're welcome.
You have taught me so much. I cannot thank you enough 🙏
You are so welcome!
I'm going to an open deck night this month and they're using a AZ, so this tutorial really helps to understand what I'm about to get myself into. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank You so much for your time spent on this tutorial. I've bought your book at Amazon and was lucky enough to start with a XDJ-AZ. Your video will help in my journey.
You're very welcome! Enjoy the AZ, it's a great unit.
Mammoth effort Phil, really appreciate the deep dive and this is a must-watch for anyone who owns an AZ!
Thank you very much - I'm glad you found it useful.
Super-helpful Phil, thank you!!! I was a vinyl DJ in the late 80s, last performing with early Denon CD players in the very early 00s, now (hopefully) returning with digital! My AZ will be arriving this month (Jan 25) and I feel far more prepared now having absorbed this really helpful session! Of course I'll forget stuff (age, eh...) but I'm soooo looking forward to reinventing what I did way back when. Thanks again! Nicola
Age indeed! you can keep coming back to it Nicola!
@digitaldjtips haha, fingers crossed!
Thank you very much Phil, I really appreciate the effort you make. Cheers Clarke from NZ
You're welcome Clarke
Thanks Phil! I'm the lucky one that already has the XDJ-AZ in The Netherlands and learned a lot wathching this 'movie ;-)'.
Merry X-Mas!
Lucky you Chris!
Phenomenal breakdown !!! Thank you so much Phil
You're very welcome!
One place for everything. Thank you Phil
you're welcome
this is an excellent tutorial! Thank you. I'm buying one for sure after watching this!
Glad to help!
Phil thank you for sharing the knowledge! As a former Prime 4 user, I wish the XDJ-AZ had a built in sampler. Next on my To Do list is to learn "How to use the Hot Cue Banks feature". Thanks again Phil. Cheers!
Hot Cue Banks is definitely a way around that.
thank you for the tutorial its really awesome. I hope the XDJ-AZ will be available in the Netherlands soon. I'm on a waiting list but the controller is simply not for sale anywhere here. keep up the good work on this channel. I really enjoy watching this.
It is in high demand, but I am sure it will be soon enough.
This is incredible. My AZ arrived today and I need ALL the help 😂
Enjoy your unit and good luck
Wow thanks for this 👌
You're welcome Matthew, it's a pleasure.
Respect Phil, as always well explained.
Glad to help
@ Digital Dj Tips , thanks for the walk through .
No problem 👍
Very informative and appreciated.
you're welcome
Thank you! Great video!
Glad you found it useful!
Brilliant upload, thanks everyone. Doesn’t help my GAS, though! I really want this unit …
Whoops, sorry about that.
God bless your soul
👍
🙌🏽Much L&R🙌🏽from🇺🇸🌵PHX🌵🇺🇸
Love this. Let’s hope I win in comp. 🤞🏻
Good luck Dave
When I’ve sold some gear! I will get one of these! The 1210’s will be great either side!
Good choice!
Hey man, love all your videos. Got mine coming Thursday and I can’t wait. Quick question, curious ifthe iso setting on the EQ is sufficient enought to use as stems?
No, it isn't - it's totally different technology. Although, of course, it will make a big difference to the sound, but you'll never remove the vocal from a track, for instance, in the same way that turning off the stem would do, just by using EQ.
Hi Phil, just got to say this channel is amazing, you guys are legends for what you do. I have just received my AZ moving from prime 4 and what an upgrade in quality and practical features along with the rekordbox platform!
I cant seem to be able to search through a newly loaded track, using the overall waveform touch feature, without first pressing play then pause, say for moving to a drop at the beginning of track prep to adjust gain/trim. I can only move the ‘link cue’ green play head weather link cue is switched on or off. Do you know or found a setting somewhere to change this?
Thank you so much for this video it has made the transition from denon to pioneer so much fun with a prior insight into the unit 👌👌👌
If you have already analysed the music on your laptop beforehand, then you shouldn’t have this issue
FYI. You don’t have to hold down shift to get to secondary modes on pad effects. Such as gate cue, key shift etc.
Right, you can hit the mode twice and it goes into it, was confusing
Thanks for pointing this out, and you're right!
Hi Phil! After watching many tutorials about the Pioneer/AlphaT. gear which provide Hardware Unlock for Rekordbox,
I'm still unable to walk away with the final conclusion to this question:
When I'm using the free/basic version of R'box on my computer along with the XDJ-AZ, does the software become unlocked to essentially get full access to all of the features like that a paid subscription? (minus the cloud services, of course)
It really seems like it should. The investment of a multi-thousand dollar system should definitely include the software it's designed to operate with - with no subscription service maintenance required just to keep it for the lifetime of the hardware unit.
Thanks!
Mostly, yes. There are a few edge features that don't work, but most DJs most of the time would never need or miss them. There's a big table on the Pioneer DJ/AlphaTheta website that shows you exactly what is and isn't unlocked, but it's nothing like with Serato, where the "lite" version of the software is pretty disabled. With Rekordbox, you get everything that you'll need in the version that the unit unlocks just by plugging it in.
Is it possible to connect a computer via USB and utilize the XDJ-AZ channels to stream through as an audio interface, like the DJM-V10 can? (not just using Rekordbox)
@PhilMorse - I am having issues paring my headset, it isn't paring. It's the newest one. That and more news! My first AZ arrived on Christmas Eve, and the display was not even on it, it was detached. I saw a FB post today with almost the exact identical issue. I'm stumped on t hat one. I got my new unit today, and it's beautiful. I've go 2 V80s replacing my old KRK-8's and my old Pioneer CDJ-2000's and DJM-2000 - they are now in their crates. I'm still getting along with this just cannot listen via my headphones at the moment. I've got y USB-C on the back of the unit with the USB -C cable to the box and it I press in the BT pariring button on the box, and hold in the bluetooth button until it says paring then let off of it.
Thanik you very much in advance!!
This is not designed to pair with Bluetooth headphones. It only pairs with SonicLink (HDJ-F10). the Bluetooth is for pairing Bluetooth sources to play through it.
@@digitaldjtips I have the F10 TX version. I solved the problem with the included cable to the 1/8" input in the front. Wireless F10's now work with CUE and headphone volume levels. Its surreal!
Hi Phil I just recently purchased my xdj az however I have problems with streaming, even tough I have fastest internet, and I did firmware update on device but still I couldn’t find out why is loading very slow from beatport!!!??? Please help me resolve this issue
Thank you 🙏
The next thing I would try is plugging in an ethernet cable and seeing if it's your Wi-Fi that's the issue. It's a process of elimination.
Fantastic video!
When you stream tracks from Beatport, how can you get it to display key in the Camelot wheel instead of traditional key?
Good question, not sure this is possible - I've not tried.
Is it possible to deactivate the WiFi & BT when not in use? ...a simple "Wireless: ON/OFF" switch in the Settings menu?
(similar to "Airplane Mode" on a phone/tablet/laptop)
From memory, yes, you can turn them both off.
Hey Phil,
I recently purchased an XDJ-AZ and tried connecting two CDJ 3000s using your tutorial in this video via DJ Pro Link and I cannot get them connected to read the flash drive inserted on the controller.
I even updated the firmware on the controller and the CDJs and still nothing.
Is there any way you could do a short video covering how to connect the wiring and connect two CDJs to the XDJ-AZ?
Need to know what I’m missing. I just can’t figure it out.
Here's the official documentation: docs.pioneerdj.com/manuals/XDJ_AZ_XDJ_AZ_PRO_DJ_LINK_V1_1_EN_addendum/
Phil, I'm really quite worried about what you highlighted when using the AZ with a set of CDJ3000's. My current setup is an XDJ-XZ with 2 CDJs and I play in standalone mode. I have an AZ on order to swap out for the XZ. You stated that on the AZ the waveform from the CDJS does not swap onto the AZ screen. I absolutely 100% believed that they would now talk to each other and waveforms could be stacked. Does this mean the waveform from the master deck on the AZ will not stack on the 3000's? Currently with the XZ this cannot be done. However, if you select phase meter on CDJ 3000 settings it is possible to have a stacked phase meter which effectively allows you to visually match the beatgrids from the two different channels? I would be grateful if you could clarify this for me.
I couldn't find a way of showing stacked waveforms, I may be wrong though. Also even if you have the AZ show you all four "full" waveforms at the bottom, it doesn't pull in anything from the CDJ3000 as it would from its internal decks 3 & 4 - it just says "LINKED PLAYER".
The good news though is that if you select phase meter on the CDJ you can have at least have that showing, as you say, if the AZ deck you want to show is set as the Master. But no stacked waveforms that I could find, and it felt a bit buggy too.
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the reply Phil
Would I be able to use one CDJ-3000 and a DJS-1000 on Ch's 3&4? both synched with Pro DJ Link?
I'm not sure - we've never had a DJS here, so I can't test these things.
Any opinions on upgrading from a Traktor S4 Mk3 with Traktor Pro 3 to the XDJ-AZ? Appreciate not comparing apples with apples, main consideration is creativity! Thanks 🙏
You can do amazing things on both, the AZ is definitely not a more "creative" unit than yours, it is more a standard DJ set-up.
@ thanks Phil. I’m quite reliant on loops and effects etc so not being familiar / having memory muscle for these functions playing out on Pioneer has been limiting in the past! Think I need to go have a play and consider if it’s worth the investment. Amazing video by the way, thanks for dedication to the cause 🎛️🎚️🎛️
I went from s4 to xdjaz and found it pretty smooth. Beat jump and loop is there and easy, just takes a min to get over the knobs on s4
@ thank you! I use the rotary dials so much for looping but also moving tracks in time for cueing I am wary about transitioning to buttons. Sounds like I just need to get over it 😂
Yep, look to the button! Trading beat jump knobs down low for fx knobs down low is a big win for me
Thanks for the vid 🙏
is there a way to stay logged into to beatport? cause when i power off and on i need to login to beatport everytime!
Not that I know of - I dimly remember something about this though, so maybe it is coming soon (or I forgot to include it!). Sure hope so.
Wow, amazing job, thank you so much! I’m actually moving back to rekordbox from EngineDJ, it’s very nice to have all this information collected in a single video. I don’t what could be missing here, but my favorite feature from this video is filtering, this best filter I have seen so far. Thanks again for all your efforts 🕺🏻🙏
Glad to help!
Thank you Phil for this Video! how can I activate my loop automatically during the song?
Set them in Rekordbox first
@@digitaldjtips I have already done this, but the loop does not activate automatically on the az
When you use this in a club when the nxt DJ wants to put his usb in and your last tune is playing will your last tune cut of as he's put his usb in. on the cdj the next DJ puts his usb in the the other usb port so your tune still playes.
No, you are able to switchover in the way you describe.
@digitaldjtips thanks
Hi Phil. Thanks for the great videos!!.
Do you know if XDJ AZ will support DVS (time code vinyls)?
Yes, it does
thank you this is
amazing . I just ordered my az . Great info !
Glad to be of help - let me know what you think of it!
The overall top layer plate, is it plastic or metal like the 3000?
Is this what I should replace my DDJ-SZ (original) with? Or the DDJ-FLX10? ... The latter is half the price of the XDJ-AZ so .. how to decide between the 2?
Do you want laptop controller or standalone?
@@digitaldjtips it doesn't matter. I have laptops and use one with the DDJ-SZ now so that's not really the big factor for me. If the only thing the XDJ-AZ has over the FLX10 is being able to play standalone then I would choose the FLX10...
I wouldn’t…. Phil just replied to my post that they removed fader start from the xdj-az. Both of the models you have listed have it. If you’re an experienced dj mixing with four decks you’ll know how valuable this option is. Unfortunately those models are not standalone units. AlphaTheta really dropped the ball on this one. So much for being a flagship “has everything” controller. If this is a sign of things to come from AlphaTheta I’m done with this company. Removing useful features is not cool.
@@johnnyd3195 Honestly, I don't use fader start. I can work around that pretty easily. I'm more trying to see what extra features did they put in the XDJ-AZ that are not present in the FLX10 and visa versa. I'm coming from a DDJ-SZ so I need 4 channel mixer, pads, effects knobs as a must.
What are the things that set these 2 apart besides the "standalone" option the XDJ-AZ gives you? I'm already using a laptop so continuing to do so isn't a deal breaker. I just don't want to invest in one and then figure out the other had features I would prefer to have. and extra $1500 for just standalone seems very steep, so there has to be more to it, right?
@@MikeNovelliYou would gain wireless headphones, a three band master eq and standalone use when compared to the flx10.
👍👍👍👍👍
If I export my music from mixed in key to a usb stick then plug it in will this unit read the files correctly?
You can' t export music from Mixed In Key as far as I know, so no - you need to use Rekordbox.
Is this playing from beatport work same when i want to play from tidal or not? i mean like in denon gear?
This only has Beatport as a streaming service
@@digitaldjtips oh crap...
Greetings Phil. Is there a way to rearrange the song order in a created playlist like you on the Denon products?
Not on the unit itself, no.
I have jjust replaced my XDJ-XZ with the new AZ. I hadn't realised that the AZ does not have an auxillary audio input on the rear. It only has auxillary inputs that I will used to connect my CDJ's. The problem I have is that with the old unit I was able to route audio from my PC sound card through the XZ and then out of the monitors connected to it. With the AZ i haven't got a way to input the audio from my PC. Unless I'm being stupid this means I cant output sound from my PC through my setup. Am I missing something?
Why not just plug your PC into any of the analogue inputs?
@ I have 2 cdj 3000s which will connect to the 2 available line in inputs effectively taking up all slots. This is really poor by pioneer on a number of levels. Need to use a switch for prodjlink. A downgrade from the XZ. That’s another thing you need to take and plug-in when gigging. Also if it’s designed with cdj connectivity in mind, why are there no digital inputs when the cdj has digital outputs.? Also no send for an rmx or such like.
1:09:25 The grid adjust information given here is plain wrong. The < 1/2 1/2 > does not double it, it shifts the grid by 1/2 a beat.
Thanks for spotting that, and yes you're right - my bad on that one.
Overall i like the new AZ but in the Beat-Fx the 1/3 and 2/3 timing on echo destroys my flow completely. Is there anyway to remove them ? :-)
Good question, but no, I don't think there is.
I was excited to get Link Export working and this video helped me out, though I was sad to see my Itunes playlists in rekordbox weren't there. Is there a way to get this to work aside from "importing" every playlist one by one, or perhaps a future update?
Not that I know of unfortunately.
On Mac, my iTunes shows up automatically in rekordbox. If on windows you may need to enable 'export xml library' in itunes
@@davec6303 Yes, I have that enabled and it lets me have my itunes playlists in rekordbox, it also allows me export my playlists to usb. Though it does not seem to enable the playlists to show in Link Export mode.
What's abaout using Rekordbox on Channel 3+4 with Videoclips? Does it works? Sound Outpout on the AZ and Video-Output on HDMI Laptop?
Sorry, not tried that...
Requesting assistance, my XDJ is not recognizing my MacBook pro. After plugging them via USB-C, I go on rekordbox, export, link - it shows a wireless link not a cable one. Thank you in advance.
Try a reboot
@@digitaldjtips it worked. thank you!
It would be quite nice if Virtual Dj would be compatible with this device.
That would be cool!
You have anymore coupon codes for the serato play?
Hi Phil. Why do you say to hook two cdj3000’s and not just one? Thanks
Because you lose both outside channels when you switch to Pro DJ Link, so with just one CDJ, you're getting only a 3-channel system.
Omnis duo tut??
Unable to find Needle unlock option on player.
Is there a way to get quantize bpm on vinyl input? I’ve tried and it doesn’t
No, it relies on the Rekordbox grids.
I have the Opus Quad, but kinda wish I got this, which one do you think is better?
Both very good, I wouldn’t worry!
Does it have access to use STEM
No, it doesn't.
Will this unit be good for 5-6 years or should I wait? Big tech advances in ai recently...
Good for 5-6 years for sure
Can you make one tutorial for DDJ REV5 please
Thanks for the suggestion

After the problemas with this controller, You Will Buy it?
I've had no issues, it's very reliable on 1.05 firmware
Hi Phil.
Does the AZ work with algoriddim DjPro?
Not sure but not very well I guess (screen won’t work)
Can't help but feel that pioneer have missed a trick by not creating their own version of the lc6000 for this controller with pro dj link/usb hub for full 4 deck control of the az and for those who want a modular mixer type set up with a laptop.
I guess they have, any of their Pro DJ Link media players.
Is anyone else experiencing a laggy screen when using it with Serato?
Yeah. But it isn’t laggy at all in stand alone mode. Which is why I bought it. I suppose you could use the laptop screen? I didn’t care for it tbh. And I love my Denon mc7000, that the AZ is sitting on top of as a matter of fact.
Weird, was fine on ours but we didn’t use it for too long to be frank… yet!
@@IamPreacherMan In standalone mode, mine is fine as well. Just when using Serato the waveforms lag. 😞
@@DJPlatinumOneI think if I was gonna use it as a controller I’d rather use my laptop screen anyway tbh. It’s larger and Serato shows grids in vertical.
Laggy with rekordbox too. Played on it for the first time this past weekend for 6 hours. Works flawlessly on its own but with lag at times with rekordbox when scrolling for tracks and going through folders in the unit. Maybe the next firmware update will fix this. And yes for anyone thinking, I have a powerful laptop for processing. My rev 7 works flawlessly on it.
Hi Phil… Can you please let me know if this unit has a Crossfader Start as well as a Channel Fader Start option in standalone mode? Same for the Opus Quad. I use Crossfader & Channel Fader Start for beat juggling. This is a dealbreaker for me. Thank you.
No fader start
Mojaxx gonna be after you for the Tips & Tricks copyright 😂
Mojaxx is cool 😎
Thanks Phil for that amazing video! Do you also got the issue, that it tooks about 20 seconds to load a track via wifi? ruclips.net/video/AstTL-i0nNc/видео.html
Depends on all kinds of things, but yeah, if you’ve got a large file you’re trying to load the Wi-Fi is not so fast then maybe that will take that long
Is it me or does this guy seem like a Alpha Theta shill. I have gone through his channel and watched many videos. If you want unbiased reviews, go elsewhere. Just my opinion of course.
alpha sucks
Why are you here then?
so wrong. The AZ is amazing. All new products have some growing pains out of the box. I have had mine now for 2 weeks with daily use. Not a single issue. Love having all the pro features for hobby, bedroom, occasional gigs without having to shell out 12K+. Why make that comment and even come to this page if you weren't curious? You know you want this
