  • This is from the pre match commentary of the 2009 Heineken Cup Semi Final. Listen to Paul Wallace's Comments about the Belgrano... the Belgrano was an Argentinian ship ship sunk by the British Navy during the Falklands war killing 323 crew. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARA_Gene...

The reference he comes out with. The Belgrano. Who would even think of that other than a private schooler?

@munkifisht Munster could not have requested thomond park. ERC rules state that the semi final has to be played at a venue with a minimum capacity of 30,000-35,000. Beaten by better team on the day.

@1234howrya I was there too, and Munster were shouted down on more then one occasion. Croker was the right venue. 82,000+ seats sold, the most for any non international rugby match ever, and the only venue that could cope, and Munster could have requested Thomand. After 60 minutes an exodus in-sued as the Munster fans evacuated the sinking ship. I saw a good proportion of the Munster fans wearing blue and I have to say, the Munster fans are very quick to leave if things are not going well.

I was there amongst the Leinster fans as a Munster supporter and I stayed to the bitter end to endure vitriolic comments and Leinster flags being dropped on my head and over my eyes. Leinster fans DID NOT WIN WELL that day. Is it any wonder Munster fans left. What is really interesting is that I met zero Munster supporters with Leinster jerseys. But I did meet Leinster supporters with Munster jerseys, most of whom were from Wexford, Kilkenny, Longford. Offaly.

@mcdb06 I did not know that, interesting. At the same time, the crowd was pretty evenly split.

Was there that day amazing atmosphere in Dublin to the game I would have said it was 50,000 Munster 30,000 Leinster with about 2208 neutrals. But to be honest Leinster gave there fans more to cheer at just the right moments a reverse of three years before which was also a mega day.

@1234howrya (following on)... I think there is a hard core of really great fans, but the majority were along for the ride. Good luck to Munster in the upcoming Magners and Heiniken cup Semis, would like to see ya in both finals, but when we do try to stay for the full 80 as BOD, Sexy, Kearny et al wreak havoc and let loose the dogs of war on your front lines.

Well let’s face it, the Royal Navy sank the General Belgrano illegally. They killed hundreds of Argentinian sailors unnecessarily. SKY presenter got the word in his earpiece from the legal people to apologise and rightly so. Wally was a wally to say what he did...

It wasn't Like the analyst was British and expressing any sort of triumphalism in an Argentine studio. Some comments here seem to feel that the analyst offended Britain when what he did was just embarrass them because of their horrific war crimes. Remember Paul Wallace is not British and the expressions which reference the sinking of the Belgrano are not uncommon outside of Britain. Britian like to forget about the Belgrano

If Sky has any brains -unlike Wallace- they should not hire him again. That was VERY bad.
