@danielwilliams8346 Thanks; what's missing from Outlook? I use it nonstop for work. So the Mac version of Outlook doesn't store local copies of emails on the device? That would make searching for emails slower, no?

For the 90% of users Numbers, Pages and Keynote are good enough. If you work with Office in a Corporate environment, Office 365 on a Mac is a must at home. What Office 365 lacks on Mac are most of the Power Tools for Excel, Power Query is way behind from Windows. And let’s not talk on Power Bi, a Windows exclusive tool.
Pages is quite nice. I prefer Keynote over Powerpoint any day. Numbers however has always be working against me and I have never found any use for it. It’s just not a good spreadsheet app.
One feature I miss in Office for Mac is the side scrolling ability in Word. In the Windows variant you get this ability, with a nice 'book reading' animation as the pages are turned. It sucks that feature is missing from the Mac version of Word.
UI on Mac version may be prettier but less usable IMHO. E.g. Outlook can't display more than the bare minimum of columns unless you turn off reading pane, doesn't show no. of emails in folder, etc. I'm used to the keyboard shortcuts in the Widows version of Excel and the absence on them on the Mac version really affects productivity. At the end, Windows version of Office still is more suited for the pro / hard core corporate worker IMHO.
One feature I miss in office for Mac, is the mini toolbar that pops up using windows computers. Also miss the different paste options directly from right click and paste.
@danielwilliams8346 @ducksmad is there an option or a solution to have that mini toolbar in macos? I tried so much searching for an answer but with no results. I need that tool :(
Thank you very much for making this video. It was so helpful, informative, and detailed. I liked it when you talked about your experience of downloading the MS 365 to the Mac, and went over each app very detailed and showed how each app works. Hope to see more great videos from you. Please take care & have a great day 😄👍
I have been using Microsoft Word on the Macintosh since about 1987 or '88. I have used full-blown Office on the Mac since about 2001. (My primary Office product has consistently been Word, but I've also used Excel, PowerPoint, and Entourage. Over the past few years, I started using Office 365, so I also started using OneDrive, OneNote and Outlook. Office 365 is great, providing that you don't let your subscription lapse because you change credit cards. I recently acquired an M1 Mac Mini, which runs circles around my 2013-vintage Core i5 iMac. The only issue with the M1 Mini is making sure all of the drivers for peripherals work properly. So far, I'm partially satisfied that the M1 Mini can use my ancient HP LaserJet 4100N network printer, but some of the functionality is gone (can no longer turn down the print resolution) and sometimes a print job (even a simple one) is extremely slow. Also: my Epson Perfection V.39 scanner works, but not very well; the Epson scanning software frequently crashes, making it unreliable.
I started using Microsoft word and excel in 1988 in a Macintosh computer, at that time there was no Microsoft word or excel for windows, justo for macs 😅
I was hoping that he would talk about using shortcuts in these apps. It's been a real challenge to switch to not using shortcuts in Microsoft Office apps on Mac unlike Windows.
Having used Windows most of my life, Office suite is ingrained into me. After migrating to macOS, I did try out Pages, Numbers (no keynote yet). I have to say I was and am struggling with the mac user lifecycle. At times pulled my hair out as not able to do what i am used to, such as copy the formatting of a cell and apply to the rest. I did download Office for Mac, but thats to increase my productivity while working. I did end up keeping my MSI Win 10 machine as just in case to jump onto, but i now see myself using my M2 MB Pro more predominantly, in comparison to my Win machine. 😊
For me as a Mac user who used office suite on both Mac and windows I know for number it’s lacking with some tool, although I don’t use excel, the thing I like the most with the MAC version is the UI design of the toolbar it looks so much more modern and more intuitive instead of multiple drop down menus on the windows side. Once you get the hang of what all the symbols mean, or use the search tool, it’s easy to do things like change the proofreading language, etc.
Ms excel will be good when MS finally enhances power query functionality like in windows. Indeed, they're moving in this direction, however if you require the full functionality (including vba and power query) you'll have to switch to windows.
Fun fact: If you open the VBA macro editor in Excel while the Excel window itslef is not on your first monitor, the macro editor will open off-screen on your first monitor and essentially soft-lock your Excel unless you shut it down via the activity monitor
I have been using Microsoft Office apps smoothly across iPhone, iPad, iMac and MacBook Pro. Teams behaves very unpredictably. Looking forward to your video on that and perhaps also one on what and how much to expect from Office on iPad. Thank you!
I use MS Office desktop version on all my Macs, in a corporate environment. Outlook 100% of the business day, then Excel 80% or more, followed by Word. With Excel, I only find 1 or 2-items in Excel that do not work on a Mac, and I think that is based upon the Mac mouse interaction. One other item is that several very common Excel add-ins are not designed for Mac. Also, you have a dead ferret under your nose.
Which add-ins don’t work for excel? I’m considering running 365 on a Mac but if I lose out on key features I don’t think I’ll make the jump over to Mac. Thanks mate
At 16:20 he mentions how excel is identical whether it be created on a windows pc or Mac. Does anybody know if this is true? I’ve seen other RUclipsrs say that you lose out on excel functions like formulas and pivot tables when you use excel on a Mac. I don’t want to spend hours creating a spreadsheet just for it not to work on other devices. I’d appreciate any insight thanks team! 🎉

Office 365 has good compatability with Mac but it also lacks some features, also if we have other one time payment purchased versions like Office 2021 or 2019, those are not much compatible with mac also as they will be directly downloaded from Microsoft Account and are Intel based as well. Excellent overview Fernando. I hope you do more videos like this. I rarely see any people in business using the Apple productivity software on their Macs. I like the Apple apps but it caused issues with collaboration since there are no cross platform capabilities. It ended up killing my productivity.
Given the power and similarity of the Mac products, it makes absolutely no sense to pay Microsoft a monthly/yearly stipend to use their products when the Mac products are absolutely free. This is especially true for any business. Also the conversion from Microsoft format to Mac works extremely well so working with any office product is very easy with a Mac.
One question: do you need to buy and subscribe to Microsoft office when you have an apple machine because I have a Microsoft machine and I have PowerPoint and Word built in with the machine ?

Will I meet any problems in using word on Mac ? , I am a teacher of math . I want to buy Mac but I am afraid of lacking some features on Microsoft word on Mac
Pages and Keynote are *_SO_* much better than Word and PowerPoint, IMO. I don't spend any time in Numbers/Excel, so I can't speak to that. 365 does run great on Mac though. My job gave me an M2 Air, and I use Outlook, Edge, and Teams on it without issues.
Pivot tables in mac are buggy and do NOT work correctly. You get no XLRisk functions and numerous of bugs in both 2D and 3D charts. I love macs but I think I'll switch back to windows laptops purely because of poor MS office performance. Also regarding ppt it crashes a lot. Many times it'll freeze and your document just vanishes. It's not just me, many of my MBA peers when i was in business school had the same issues. Also I recall all my professors that tought any sort of Risk/marketing class that required heavy MS use always recommended we stay away from Mac. Btw I do own a Mac.
I work in the Office 365 corporate world and after taking the time to learn the Apple Office Suite (Numbers,Keynote,Pages) I would never go back. A much better product compared to the overpriced, bloated, visually ugly, non intuitive Office 365. Never going back.
My coworkers hate my MacBook , it’s way different from everyone else PC , Dells. We use it for loan origination , saving documents on One Drive , emails etc . Nothing to crazy but Mac Does have a disadvantage
Hey Fernando Question: I have a Microsoft 365 subscription for personal/family use For when you do a video about Microsoft software on macOS (Ventura or previous depending on what version you are using) my question is does Microsoft OneDrive on macOS support the OneDrive Personal Vault on Mac? I have thought about switching to the Mac more than once in the last say 10 years and as Microsoft introduced new collaboration features and security features (like OneDrive Personal Vault) I have not made the switch I am now with better reason thinking of switching to the Mac because my laptops are coming up around 10 years old and one can’t run Windows 11 because it doesn’t have a TPM The battery in the laptop without the TPM doesn’t hold up well I might or might not have ruined the display of the laptop without the TPM by accident I also might or might not have dropped the laptop without a TPM and the chassis might or might not have a crack or 2 and I also might or might not have 2 broken keys on the keyboard of the laptop without a TPM On the laptop with a TPM I recently had the hard drive upgraded to a SSD and the RAN upgraded to 8GB and the guy who put in the SSD and installed 8GB of RAM was able to get the laptop with the TPM to run Windows 11 On the laptop with the TPM though I AM HAVING TROUBLE OPENING my OneDrive Personal Vault in a “Windows environment” When I attempt to open my OneDrive Personal Vault in a “Windows environment” I get an ERROR CODE 0x80070057 and I have LITERALLY TRIED EVERYTHING FROM REPARTITIONING THE DRIVE TO REPLACING THE DRIVE NOTHING WORKS Thanks for taking the time to answer this question
I don’t have a Mac (yet - I’m in the same situation as you😀), but Vault works flawlesly on iPad, so I would be very surprised if it doesn’t work equally well on a M1/M2 Mac.
Thank you for this super helpful video. Question: if I am a subs of Microsoft 365personal. Do I still download the offline version of Office to my Mac computer from the Apple Store?… thanks for sharing.
🐬Unfortunately, as soon as you start to work with the programs a little more, you realize that Office for Mac is much behind the Windows original. It is slight inconveniences, like the paste-special menu, which cannot be navigated with the arrow keys. Also many of the alt-shortcuts in Excel for windows are not as straightforward on Mac. On PowerPoint you don't have the convenient menu for changing the appearance for your graphs. In Excel it is also not possible to customize your Page Layout. Overall all these things add up quite a bit. If you work in the MS-Office Suite all the time, DO NOT get a Mac.
Very good exploration of MS 365 basic applications on MacBook. Kindly continue doing so for most of MS 365 applications. I extend my best wishes for the same.
Correct me if i’am wrong : but seems that cross-platform software for mac and windows , as Microsoft 365 apps and others software On Mac have many fewer features . Or are same in features ???
Yes there are several features missing. In Powerpoint, I am unable to lock objects as the Lock function is not available on Mac. That also means that if an object was locked using Windows version, there is absolutely no way to unlock it on the Mac version...which is quite annoying as I recently switched to the Mac.....and I had to go to Windows to unlock objects on different slides before I could move or edit it in Mac.
Actually Apple markets to lots of fields. In science publications, products are marketed to scientists. In business publications products are marketed to business people, quants, analysts, etc. Their website often features their products marketed to different vertical markets in the enterprise. One of the sad thing about RUclips reviewers, however, is that they have the most fixed myopic point of view of anyone “reviewing” tech products and they exist in one of the most impenetrable culture bubbles around. They think products are only marketed to them. If Apple made a hammer they’d think it was supposed to only be for creative people using hammers. I can’t wait to see all the whining if and when Apple brings out an actual automobile! I can see it now. “The Apple Car has over 600 horsepower but it doesn’t run Final Cut. Does anyone need this car?” Not only that but they believe the only definition of Pro refers to “Pro RUclipsrs.” On top of all this, they believe the only creative work in the world has to do with video editing. “I’m creative. I make RUclips Videos.” Newsflash: Countless professions from Doctors to Lawyers to Military officers require far more creativity than the average RUclips video. It’s a big world out there, and the Apple tech reviewer who figures out they need to get out there and REALLY show how Apple tech is used, and can be used, is going to be huge.
Hi, does Microsoft Office 365 for MAC run all features, VBA, Macros, and add-ins that run on the Windows platform? which version of MAC book is running these applications ( office 365, Power BI, Power Query, MS SQL Server, VS-code, Pycharm, Photoshop, ........ ) smoothly
How does it work on Mac? Like crap. Slow, burns CPU, crashes, word just will randomly not open files when you choose "Open", features are missing, poorly optimized. I use it for my company, but never for my personal.
Word and Excell drain energy, (often 80%) and even do that when the Mac is asleep. Word is a terrible program for large reports (over about 80 pages), even on Mac it crashes often (or over heats) if even a few jpgs are added to documents. All in all it has a lot of features and is indispensable since they killed off the competition which at the time were actually. better. (2018 Intel Mac with masses of Ram)
Switched to a Mac Air nearly 2 years ago. Still dislike Excel on Mac. Clumsy, slow, garbage fast keys, formatting sucks, advanced features kneecapped. I will have to upgrade to a 16gb unit and use parallels. For the rest of it, the Mac is a great machine.

I am struggling to even get all the xls features working on Microsoft 365 on my iMac pro 2013 + how do you manage to get the XLS window smaller so I can see the desktop at the back apologies for the ignorance I’ve never ever worked with an Apple Mac and I’ve just been given one for Work
First class review. Been running Microsoft apps on a Mac since the “demise” of WordPerfect for Mac - started on a PowerBook 3400.
experiencing issues with the Export and Import features in Microsoft Office 365 on a Mac, please provide solution
The main difference on Mac vs Pc for Excel is Power Query and Data Modeling that is not available on Mac 💔
Or Power BI Desktop is not available on Mac 💔
Great video. I have 1 question -- I already subscribed to the online Onedrive / Microsoft 365. Do I still need to install the Onedrive app on my MacBook? What advantage would it have over the online version? Thank you 😃
Great thanks I’m getting a Mac then
can we use the cracked version of office on mac just like the windows? I don’t want to pay for MS office!
Will I meet any problems in using word on Mac ? , I am a teacher of math . I want to buy Mac but I am afraid of lacking some features on Microsoft word on Mac
I use 365 everyday for work on my 16in MB i9; teams is unbearable , and edge is really unstable
Teams is unbearable on Windows too.
Do macros and Visual Basic work in Excel?
They does
If I already downloaded from the MS site and want to change them for the ones from the app store, Do I uninstall office from my MAC first or not?
Because my school provides it so I have to use Office365. Experience wise I couldn't say much because I am using Intel Mac.
Nothing to crazy but Mac Does have a disadvantage
on my macbook air m1 it opens very slow :/ all is updated... still very very slow compared to my windows pc
Longtime Microsoft user on PC & Mac. 🐬
Hey Fernando
Question: I have a Microsoft 365 subscription for personal/family use
For when you do a video about Microsoft software on macOS (Ventura or previous depending on what version you are using) my question is does Microsoft OneDrive on macOS support the OneDrive Personal Vault on Mac?
I have thought about switching to the Mac more than once in the last say 10 years and as Microsoft introduced new collaboration features and security features (like OneDrive Personal Vault) I have not made the switch
I am now with better reason thinking of switching to the Mac because my laptops are coming up around 10 years old and one can’t run Windows 11 because it doesn’t have a TPM
The battery in the laptop without the TPM doesn’t hold up well I might or might not have ruined the display of the laptop without the TPM by accident I also might or might not have dropped the laptop without a TPM and the chassis might or might not have a crack or 2 and I also might or might not have 2 broken keys on the keyboard of the laptop without a TPM
On the laptop with a TPM I recently had the hard drive upgraded to a SSD and the RAN upgraded to 8GB and the guy who put in the SSD and installed 8GB of RAM was able to get the laptop with the TPM to run Windows 11
On the laptop with the TPM though I AM HAVING TROUBLE OPENING my OneDrive Personal Vault in a “Windows environment”
When I attempt to open my OneDrive Personal Vault in a “Windows environment” I get an ERROR CODE 0x80070057 and I have LITERALLY TRIED EVERYTHING FROM REPARTITIONING THE DRIVE TO REPLACING THE DRIVE
NOTHING WORKS
Thanks for taking the time to answer this question
I don’t have a Mac (yet - I’m in the same situation as you😀), but Vault works flawlesly on iPad, so I would be very surprised if it doesn’t work equally well on a M1/M2 Mac.
@@nickie_katharina_foenshauge I’m thinking the reason why I get the ERROR CODE on that particular laptop is a UEFI ISSUE
didn't open that fast in sonoma 14.2.1 same config, m2 mac mini 16/256
Thank you! 🐬
This was very helpful!🐬
Are they native apps or running on Apple's emulator tech?
Thank helpe a lot in making my decision
Hi. Can MS office extend to full screen.?
It’s 2023 Microsoft, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make Microsoft Project for the M1/M2 Apple silicon
With M2 MBA 8gb ram, it takes 4-8 seconds to load any of these from quit 😅
Most of the things are there but I think it's not as easy to use on MacOS as on Windows.
Please can you share this wallpaper I liked it?😅
I use Keynote and Pages 👍😊
Correct me if i’am wrong : but seems that cross-platform software for mac and windows , as Microsoft 365 apps and others software On Mac have many fewer features .
Or are same in features ???
couldnt agree more
Yes there are several features missing.
Does anyone need this car?”
Not only that but they believe the only definition of Pro refers to “Pro RUclipsrs.” On top of all this, they believe the only creative work in the world has to do with video editing.
This should be pinned!
do you have a subscription or not?
Recorded in 720p?
Seems so
thank you so much!
Cost?
Without MS Access Office on Mac is not even an option for me.
Pivot tables is gimped in Excel...hence why I bought a PC.
Its like office 365 but looks like and older version than on Windows.
The office suite needs to be updated for iPad there way to many bugs
The iPad versions are an absolute joke. Its like Microsoft 365 double Lite....so many missing features.
🐬 720p?!
If my phone is samsung, i still can buy macbook rigth?
@@sagisabag1619 same question from samsung user here. i need to assure from someone with similar experience, anyone?
I need to pay to use Excel on my Macbook. the free version is just read.
My corporation uses 365 and it works well on my m2 MacBook Air
Just get a Surface Pro 9 for Microsoft Office usage
Not!
🐬My next computer will be a MAC. It will be next year. Thanks for the video. I use excel a lot.
Office for Mac was REVENGE for iTunes for Windows!!!!!!
Do outlook 😄
The fact that you minimize windows instead of using stage manager should be a crime.
Using your desktop for file storage is also really embarrassing.
720p come on man 😭😭😭😭.. Great video otherwise 😊
