Very helpful information. The closest section to me is Lebanon to Canaan and I look forward to riding it soon. Will look for your review of that section.

It’s a great, peaceful ride. I’ve done it in sections (parked, then out and back), except for Canaan to Lebanon. Last week I tried a part for the Rockingham rail trail, from Lake Massanesic east. It was busy with people for the fist mile or two then I hardly encountered anyone. It is less developed than the Northern or Gofffstown RT’s. I was caught by surprise at about 4-5 miles by a sudden very steep incline up to a tunnel under the highway that was too short and dark to ride through… I pushed my bike through. Then, about a mile after, a nearly identical repeat of the steep approach into another small tunnel. The incline into these tunnels is so steep I nearly lost traction trying to make it up, so I learned to be safe and get off and push my bike up and not risk a fall (I ride clipped in). I do not think the Rockingham trail (at least this section) is good for riding with other people, as it is so narrow much of the way you really couldn’t talk to your riding mates easily as you have to be single file.
I ride the Goffstown RT regularly… about 8 miles from the start in Goffstown over to Manchester and the Fisher Cats stadium. It’s a great trail with all the improvements that have been made in the last few years….. only issue is that on nice days, weekends in particular it gets a lot of use and it is populated with spaced-out people and dog walkers who seem amazed that anyone else could be using the trail. My tiny bell on the handlebars gets a lot of use on that trail, and I’ve learned that when approaching older people ringing your bell may not do any good as their ability to hear higher frequencies is diminished. Last year I approached a group of 4 old people taking up the width of the trail… and I’m ringing my bell like crazy as I get closer and they never flinched. When I rode around them the guy nearest me jumped and yelled “Jesus” like I was a jerk. Not one of them could hear the bell!

Thanks for your detailed notes. Try Nashua Rail Trail to Ayer next. :) It's on my list.
