  • Education and technology has been in a race since the invention of printing. Today, education is lagging behind, says David Middelbeck. We need to change the fundamentals of learning to adapt to the digital age. David tells his story of how after learning in Muenster and Harvard, he has just left a good job in tech to help bring technology into education. David Middelbeck stands up for a world without digital illiterates as the Chairman of the European nonprofit organization TechLabs. He co-founded the organization 2 years ago in Münster, and now helps hundreds of students every year to learn coding skills at its three locations in Münster, Barcelona & Copenhagen.
Furthermore, David is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of the startup edyoucated, a digital education platform that helps companies to upskill their workforce to digital roles. He is a passionate social entrepreneur with 8 years of nonprofit leadership experience & former Head of Product at an early-stage data analytics startup from Münster. Before, he studied Information Systems, Data Science, Philosophy, and Entrepreneurship at Harvard University, MIT, WWU Münster, and QUT Brisbane.
David will talk about his vision for the future of digital education - so called "learning accelerators" that combine the best of powerful online resources & engaging offline communities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

@tito diaz they would have to relearn teaching. it's not about the content anymore, but guiding through th evast amount of info. Kids should learn how to solve a problem. Not dates and useless info learning by heart.

Thank you David for this enlightening talk about the gap between Technology and Education. I have been an offline STEM-educator since 12 months now and I desparetely feel the need for Education to cope up with emerging technologies. GenZ children need to be allowed to work along with there smartphones around, it is a matter of ethics that learner’s don’t misuse technology during quality education.
I really admire the vision of TechLabs and would love to connect with the team soon. Cheers from Ignotech (India).

Many thanks for this interesting lecture! It is fantastic that the non-profit organisation has achieved such a huge success after such a short time. The three pillars on which "Tech Lab" is built can really successfully transform education into the digital age, that's my personal impression as a trainer-instructor. Sadly they only are doing this to extract data that they will profit off of. If you haven't yet, check out Alison McDowell and her research out. It's very telling.

I understand what you are saying. My Culex XR Studio is making virtual content for education and we have a crazy gap between people who are excited about this new technology and those who do not understand it and are afraid of it. Unfortunately, there are more of those who are afraid. But I see the movement for the better. Great speech!

so many speakers just talk about the need for students to learn code and 'futuristic' tech jobs, which I think is missing the whole point of future education because even those jobs will become redundant in another 50-100 years.
