    Your observation regarding the SX RD not going down from 50 tooth is pretty much spot - on. Have a full SX group just replaced the RD and Shifter to GX and has been running smoothly ever since. The cranks in particular is a steal to essentially how bomb proof they are. And nice videos by the way!

    Could we get a Review of the crest 34 fork? There aren’t any yet

    • @em8452
      @em8452 3 года назад

      It's not a full review but, the Crest fork feels kinda good on the trail. Smooth riding, sometimes it nosedived a little deep on drops but I only had one spacer in at the time to be honest. Replaced it for a RS 35 though. The 35 is heavier but the Crest has an annoying top out "click" I couldn't get past, seemed worse in cold weather. Also there is no servicing it yourself without voiding warranty. If you don't care much about a noisy fork though, it is an ok fork, probably a little nicer than a recon, but not yet a reba in my opinion.

    Thank you, great comparison. I have the '21 fathom 2 - 27.5 and it is a fantastic bike. Giant has had an issue with installing a non-boost chainring on this model so far isolated only to the black/rosewood (something to look for while unboxing or before purchasing). Many have had this issue evidenced by reviews on Giant's website. My 1st ride was miserable; chain drop about 20 times. Giant quickly responded and sent the correct chainring (30t boost) , but while waiting my lbs installed a boost 32t and I am keeping this one.

      @@Tyrsblade Hi JD, the fathom 1 has sram crankset with the appropriate offset, the newest fathom 2 has gone back to a 10-speed cluster and now requires no offset. The 2021 fathom 2 was 12 speed and many were sent without the proper 3mm offset chainring, but most were sold with the correct spec chainring.

  • @Banshee365
    @Banshee365 3 года назад

    The Praxis Cadet is a pretty nice crank. The problem with it is that Praxis uses the Sram direct mount style for the chain ring. So, if you want to change chain rings you’ll find that there are hardly any options with the Sram DM style ring that is compatible with the Shimano HG+ chain. I had this issue and ended up going with the Wolf Tooth Camo which allows you to use a Sram DM style spider and a HG+ chain specific ring that mounts to it.

    I've had a Fathom 2 27.5 for a few weeks and I've noticed some issues with the crest fork. Mine makes a hideous clicking noise when the fork rebounds, I've blew through the compression stroke on fork the several times, bottoming out the fork really hard on small jumps, like the fork isn't even there. So hard that the headset bearings left dents in the soft cheap bearing races, so now my headset bearings are notchy and creaky even after cleaning and re-greasing them. Bought a ‘22 29-2 this week. Very interested to see how this HT performs. The 1x12 got dropped to a 1x10, still appears to be plenty of gearing spread for my needs. I was planning to buy a 1 but the Shimano brakes are currently subbed out so not worth the extra dough (will end up adding a set of XT soon enough).

    • @themoss7115
      @themoss7115 2 года назад

      So the selling point of these bikes changed in a interesting way. It now depends if you really want to get 1x12. If you do, getting 29-1 and just upgrading the derailleur to something that actually works is less pain in the *** than changing from 1x10.

    • @srdamman
      @srdamman 2 года назад

      @@themoss7115 After 4 months on the bike I can say the 1x10 has been just fine. The performance factor (negative) for me are these brakes. When I get back on my trail bike (w XT’s) my ride livens up. Also plan to get a carbon 800mm / 40mm rise bar.

    I’m looking to upgrade, and I’m shopping all brands of hard tail in this price point. I’ve seen/heard that giant uses dated geometry. Is that still the case with these? I’m not sure what is considered modern geometry these days.

  • @mikeb.2166

    Thanks for the video. After seeing this it seems that maybe Giant should have come up with a Fathom 3 so there would be no need to upgrade components down the road. It seems that I would be better off getting the cheaper bike then just plan to upgrade some parts, as I can afford to (or get hand me downs).
