Most legends never die tho, they've been living for centuries, up to today, so I find the attempt to present the world as all dark and cruel at all times unnecessarily depressing and dark but it's just me I guess

This is way better than original, its closer to real life. Imagine how many people who have shaped the course of history we don't even know about, the ones who are in the trenches of time, the ones who's hands built our past and sculpted our present, the unknowns who dared to go where no one had gone before.
It really really isn't. it's just another view on things. Yeah sure, they were probably a lot of amazing people that no one remembers but there were also a lot of people that became legends remembered even over a thousand years after their death. Being gritty does not necessarily make something more realistic.

With the twist on the song i don't feel the metal form works. Don't get me wrong it sounds awesome, but with new Sadder lyrics I think they would work better with a Sadder sound. Something like an acoustic version. I hope you get what I'm saying.

Yeah something slow, echoey and haunting
Just a little something this masterpiece made me think/reminded me of.

Definitely the best Heavy Metal cover of this song. One big reason being vocals, 90% of the others are just men doing vocals with no lady and when the softer parts come it just sounds like a rusty squeak on a bike and the other 9.99% that do have a lady in vocals, they fail at having the gritty sound of Heavy Metal. This is the .1% that does both with the woman at the forefront and the man in the background giving the gritty vocals.
The other reason being the slight lyric change. It’s far more grounded in reality, hitting with the sad fact that those that sacrifice the most to do great things are often forgotten. That, many say they want to reach greatness and be a legend but most don’t want to make the necessary sacrifices to do so. Or fear being forgotten should they be made. And while for some the song may be more depressing this way, those that do have, as the song states, that slightest fire in the deepest pit of your heart, will take it as motivation. That achieving greatness isn’t meant to be driven by some fragile concept such as glory. That you won’t and maybe already don’t have people on your side of the ring chanting for your victory. No hero will save you or give you the goals you seek. That at the end, it’s just you and that fire and should greatness be reached, it’s only because of personal drive and determination. Nothing else.
Im not sure if that was the intention but that’s how I took it.
This recovery is so powerful! This rewrite is so fair and hits so hard! It is both great and totally depressing! Excellent artistic work! I wish you the best and know the success you deserve!
Just to be as dark and powerful as possible, i would have change the ultimate "Legends often die" by "Legends always die" to create an ultimate graduation from sometimes to often and from often to always.
