California are the worst stewards of natural resources. Can you imagine a California politician becoming president and managing the rest of the country???
Just look.... if u wanted to rebuild Cali 2.0 , build condos to get rich, 1st you need ppl to sell land. How do you do that? Exactly how the did. Stop funding fire department so they can't afford trucks, maintenance, men. Stop cleaning up the fuel/land debre such as dried brush . Cause a water shortage by releasing water to ocean. Drain resivoirs claiming it's for maintenance. Wait on the winds to arrive, start fires. After the fires make it as difficult as possible for ppl to return/rebuild homes so they will be more likly to sell. Thats exactly what they did, it was a plan
Y’all Californians don’t need to be warned by Trump way back in 2019 about conserving and redirecting water to reservoirs and save it for times of droughts or fires, this is just common sense.

You didn’t even watch the video. They perfectly explain why this had to happen. You still have to conserve water because you’re pulling from other resources and there’s 44 million people down there. Stop acting like this is the only way you’re gonna have water.
No surprise here. Nothing we do in California makes much sense. "Over the past 30 years, more than 100 small dams have been removed in California. The 2015 breaching of San Clemente Dam on the Carmel River was the largest dam removal in state history. Several other large dams are targeted for removal, including Matilija Dam, four dams on the Klamath River, and Scott Dam on the Eel River.". We also won't build any more desalination plants and we don't consider hydroelectric power as "green energy" because environmentalists don't like it.
Do none of you people who write these comments watch the entire video? They literally explained that this is a 104 year-old Dan that needed significant repairs. In order to reach the parts of the dam that needed repairs they had to reduce the water level significantly. Some of that water was diverted to other reservoirs that had reached capacity. The other problem is they needed to drop the water levels at thisdamn below 280 feet which results in their hydraulic systems being unable to pump upstream to other reservoirs. Therefore, in order to make the necessary repairs to this ancient dam, they had to let some of the water go. You still need to conserve water and be mindful because this isn’t your only water source in California Bro.
Yeah, another person who did not watch the video until the end. It was perfectly explained. That damn is 104 years old and needed significant repairs. They had already diverted all the water they could to other reserves that were at capacity. In order for them to utilize the hydraulic pump system, the water in that reservoir has to be above 280 foot mark. However, in order for them to make the repairs they had to drop below that 280 foot mark so therefore they had to release some of the water into the oceanotherwise, that damn is just going to break and let everything go to the ocean and waste at all
Raised my kids in Boise, Idaho. Several years ago we suffered drought conditions, and our lawns were mandated to water 2 days a week. Our lawns were dying, but the city sponsored a "mud volleyball tournament" that required a water dump of enough water to create mud courts to a depth of 3ft! And the laundry alone was an added insult!!!
They should’ve told everybody to water the shit out of the yards to use the water at their homes or gardens are farmers you could’ve drained it by using it
Instead of lowering water cost or telling people to water plants for the a week or so .. they just dumped it in the ocean .. what a great county management .. they are too busy with their equity and bike lane agenda 😂
Man, I cannot believe that the first five or 10 big comments or people who did not watch listen and even try to comprehend half of what was said in this video. You just let your conservative rage, mongering pee, brain go right to the comments and make idiotic statements. If you had watched the video, they explained very clearly. The dam is 104 years old. It was in need of significant repairs. They had already diverted all the water they could to the other reservoirs attached to the hydraulic system from this dam. Those other reservoirs had reached their capacity. You cannot overfill them or you risk breaking those other dams. This damn needed to have its water levels reduced to such a level so they could make the repairs they had no other choice, but to let the water go out into its normal path into the river and out to the ocean so they can make the repairs. If they don’t make the repairs this damn brakes and all the water is lost. Please use your brain cells.
I understand the need to repair the dam and meet state compliance, but it seems very short sighted and irresponsible to not develop some sort of plan to conserve 250 million gallons of water in the midst of a historical drought. All while I'm told I can't wash my car or water my grass. San Diego and the State of California need to give us real answers for this one.
@KeyDx7 San Diego County has 24 reservoirs that are all linked by aquaducts in one way or another. Something could have been done. And even if it was not possible to retain that water, the more pressing issue is the fact that that dam is 105 years old and the powers that be did not have the foresight in the last 40 or so years to reenforce, repair, or replace it. It wasn't until their were issues that threatened catastrophic failure that they decided to do repairs and consider replacing it. Now we are over 10 years out from a new dam and we'll possibly lose out on billions of gallons of needed water because poor planning.
Whoever made this decision we need explanation and be fired either his evil or stupid or brain dead we are paying to much on water and conserving too I water my plants once a week why let the water into a waste since we need that water
If i wanted to make money, i would build condos where ppl in So Cal live. But first i would need their land. So i would make deals that insured govt would inact policies that would cause the ppl to loose their land. One would be to create a water storage by releasing it into ocean, then stop fire pervention tactics such as control burns, debree/fuel clean up etc. I would empty the reservoir under the guise of maintenance and take as long as needed to reoair it, that being as long as it takes for fires to show up. I would take away funds from fire department so they would be understaffed, and cant buy equipment or fix engines. I would then wait until the winds came and have arsonists to set fires. Once the homes are gone, i would use govt regulations to make it so difficult to rebuild ppl would sell me their land, and i would rebuild Cali 2.0 with condios. Fortunatly NOTHING like that has taken place.... right?
