Dude, don't forget the throttle return spring.. I used a wood flooring kit from Lowe's, on my '54 3100... It took just over a full box.. $26.00 and it snaps together (cut it fromthefloor side to prevent splintering).. I used self-adhesive rubber/aluminum sound deadening EVERYWHERE, then cheap tunes of silicone for extra adhesive... It's designed for the bathroom/kitchen, so it water resistant.. Grab an air-hose and blow it out... Easiest maintenance ever... Keep up the good work...
Greetings from Germany... I vote 'wooden flooring'. Maybe clip style wood flooring scraps puzzle it together with a hard clear finish with small stick'em foot/kick pads as needed. As always I enjoy watching the build and look forward to the next episode. Happy Holidays to the Wallys family.
I would paint your floor with that oil based , Gloss black enamel. Then I would install some kind of sound Absorbing material. After that, I would install a removable rubber mat that you can wash off. You’re not gonna see that much of it once you put the seat in. It’s more about your headliner your dashboard, your door panels,. I enjoy watching your RUclips channel Wally I love doing metal work.
You’re not a goofball, you do fine work. I like the brake handle idea for your shift handle, but it’s gonna be very difficult to move it just the right amount because you have so much leverage in that long handle. Maybe an automotive shifter built onto a pedestal? Or maybe an automotive shifter built into the dashboard? If you could design some kind of stops for that long handle, it may work, but you still have a long handle right where you wanna put your legs, and Having a open leg area across the cab of your truck it’s very attractive to me.
The floor would be cool in rubber matting and sound deadner underneath the matting. But don't forget to put a return spring on your throttle cable better safe than crashed lol
I once worked with a mechanic during my pipefiter apprentice at the Philly Shipyard who said "Anybody can do a job with the right tools, but a GOOD mechanic can do it with the wrong tools!" 😆Sometimes we'd be caught on a job blocks from our shop without transportation, so you made do with what was in your tool bag. Wally's doing the same thing with parts and he's killing it. Keep going, Wally!
Joe here. I would do Old School Looking rubber matting with the lines in it on the floor it self and bed liner the engine cover. It will look good together
That would look good as a forties/fifties flooring but I've had that type of flooring and it doesn't work for long. Rubber holds condensation under it and guess what, the condensation reacts with the flooring then the next thing you know is that your feet go through the metal floor and you have a Fred Flintstone COF and not a COE. Cab Over Feet not a Cab Over Engine, mind you, your legs would have to be adjustable for them to reach the ground from that seat!
Utilizing the motor home parts and fabricating them to work is smart! The truck is coming along nicely! You are doing an awesome job! I would put removable rubber mat on the floor. It will make it easier to clean.
I would love to see an exhaust stack behind the cab with the chrome heat sheild maybe, then an intake stack to match on the other side. Looking good Wally, you're an inspiration.
Wally!!!! I’m loving it! The best part is your using the original parts. I hate it when they open up a box and install. The fabrication and the thought behind it fascinates me. Wood floor for sure. It doesn’t have to be any fancy high dollar wood. Just some old pine 1x4’s. It’s not a trailer queen. It’s just something to be proud of. Keep up the great work.
Good job Wally ! And hell yeah a wooden floor ! Maybe just smash together some old beaten up pellet wood , edge glue it , hit it with flap sander , clear coat , definitely the distressed look would certainly be in homage ! Give it a go ... Any of the build you feel like filming works for me ! And you could just do a walk around video update on what progress you didn't film ! I so love seeing you reuse anything you can ! ❤😉🙃😎 NZ
Brilliant work! I bought a stripped out VW bus and have thrown a Corvair engine in it so watching you tackle things like throttle linkage and such gives me some great ideas. Keep those videos coming!
Here’s an idea for the seat. You could hinge it on the passenger side and have a prop rod to hold it up. It would be very convenient for most of the maintenance on the top side. I’m enjoying your project. Nice work 👍🏼
Those old Cabovers remember they get really hot inside so need to insulate well. Something like a stall mat from tractor supply would be good for the floor. Easy to trim down. Back when I first started driving the A/C went out on my Freightliner Flattop C/O going across the desert. To hot to drive during the day😅 Coast to Coast no A/C took a while to get fixed.
Fantastic work, again. Love how everything just goes together nicely, but with some figuring no doubt. I love the idea of the brake lever shifter. You have to go that route foresure. That small pocket you mentioned behind the gas pedal might be a good spot for a small fire extinguisher, as long as your not kicking it all the time.
Great idea on the shifter! Hope it comes together but I'm sure whatever solution you come to will be awesome. What a fantastic project and thanks so much for sharing with all of us!
I like the Rubber mat flooring. fits the age and style. Wood opens up a huge can o worms, Incorporating the brake unlock lever as the reverse lockout would be cool.
Wally, you asked what to do with the floors. The doghouse cover I would use colored raptor liner. The floors around it maybe look into laminate the “click and stick” looks good is now thin water proof and easy bro! Love your work ethic us old dudes fix stuff therefor we are 😅
hello from NE. Truck is coming a long nicely. First put a clamp on the pieces you are cutting fingers don't grow back. Its great you think about things to get them done and work correctly. And yes it is always trial and air to get it the way its going to the best. Sound deaden the cab as much as you can. Could put a wool mat on the floor and up vinyl flooring on top of that has a wood look and hold it down with strips. That way you can replace it if it ever wears out. I've enjoyed watching you build your truck. Stay safe and have fun.
I saw a truck bed that used old tire tread as liner. That would be a neat way to rubber line the floor inside but some wood trim would really make it look great.😁
I love the idea of using the original parking brake handle for the shifter! I'd just use rubber mat for the flooring. That's most likely the way it was originally. If not, then tongue and groove wood flooring for sure!
Nice work. Maybe you can fit a heater core next to the throttle pedal. A wood floor would be cool. If you do that, make sure it is removable so that you can service the cab floor as needed.
I would cut out that whole corner of the cab firewall and replace it with some 8 inch steel like you did for the floor. It looks so good, it’s so strong.
G'day Wally, I'm lovin the build man it's awesome. Personally, i don't mind seeing all the little jobs. Be it brake line bending or the exhaust, it's all part of the build process. I do think the shifter would definitely make for a good episode. So, thanks for sharing the progress. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
I ALWAYS start any new project by looking at what I already have that I can use outright or modify. I live way out in the country and getting something out of my own stuff saves money and hours of traveling. I also mail order stuff in and work on something else while I wait for it.
I like the approach of trying to keep as much of the OE motorhome stuff, it's a lot easier to get parts off the shelf for the specific year of chassis instead of having to remember what oddball car/truck you used a part from, or even worse be stranded while waiting for a custom aftermarket part.
Love the build AND the comments, lots of creative and experienced people following along. My only thought was cab noise so, some kind of sound matting. That E-brake handle is too cool to not use, I hope you can make it work! Also, even if you think the small stuff like brake lines is not worth the amount of editing, maybe you could post shorts for those things. I believe lots of us like to see every step of the process. BTW, we all know the time it must take to put each episode together. Why not let us buy you a coffee? If you aren't comfortable with that you could do it for just the final episode?
Wally your ingenuity is amazing. That’s set up looks like it will work very well. The parking brake your Chassis came with is different than mine. Yours looks like the standard GM truck/suv. My parking brake is a handle looks like it came out of a humvee. I like your ideas and am really enjoying your videos.
KIS that's how I would do it. Keep going down the road your on. This is going to a very unique and custom truck,I dig it. I like the idea of wood. Find some reclaimed click flooring at a restore.
For flooring, you should look at boat decking. Easy to spray out, glues down like vinyl, and textured like carpet. It's foamish so you get insulating, cushion, and vibration reduction as well.
Things are really coming along! As far as flooring, Personally I would bedliner the bottom of the floor and doghouse. Bedliner the floor in the cab, then cover it with carpet. It is going to be extremely noisy in the cab and you want to dampen the noise as much as possible
Hey Wally!!! Regarding the floor covering, bed liner would obviously be the least amount of work, and it would be uber-functional. But I agree with your train of thought on the wood floor covering! Stained oak or walnut would be FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I have really been loving this build! I've been wanting to do this exact same build for years, but either due to money or time, I've not been in the position to pull it off. Thank you for allowing me to see that, had the stars aligned correctly, this would have been a VERY possible and fairly cut and dried project! I'm really enjoying your channel! Please keep on sharing the interesting content like I have been enjoying thus far!!!! I hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Wally, I have had a few old trucks one thing I learned is to use seam sealer over every weld and sound deadener on the floor and in the doors and on the inside of the roof , with out it the A/C will never work well and all that works cuts down on heat and noise, and rattles and a tinny sounding truck. as for the floor coving, I would have a custom rubber floor mat made . Just because it is so practical.
Hi from Argentina. I'd go with the simple and classic rubber carpet (I'm sorry, I'm not sure if that's how it's called) on the cabin floor. Easy to install, easy to clean, and it's a good insulation for noises mainly. Just treat the metal floor with bedliner and put the rubber carpet over it and voilá! Cheers!
Like some have already said rubber matting ( be good for sound deadening too). Another thought with what you said, wood but do it like the old Chevy truck beds with the metal channel pieces and wood.
Definitely keeping my vote for the floor covering with professionally sprayed on bedliner - the Line-X brand is the best quality…but…if you want wood I’d suggest wood appearing vinyl. The modern vinyl flooring planks are very realistic & they’re waterproof which is the key for automotive flooring. It’s also very scratch resistant too. Maybe a combination of the two? Wood-like floor & bedliner for the doghouse cover?
you can use the open are near the gas pedal to get a heater unit output there to keep your feet nice and warm or in your case it is more or less nice and cool. As for the floor - it is an old truck - so some nice hardwood to give it a wooden floor look would be great.

Baling wire is traditionally used for carburetor linkage. For over 100 years! Almost ready for burnouts! Wood tends to catch on fire when welded! How about those thick squishy rubber fatigue mats? Sound deadening and comfort?
insulation ideas? kill the noise and make is comfortable, inexpensive it Jude carpet insulation works well for the entire inside the cap. Indoor short carpet for the walls looks clean
Heck ya Wally, great fabrication work. Really enjoy the fabrication and the details, after the videoing the editing work has to be done, that's a chore in its own. 🫵🏼💯%🆒🇺🇸
This project is really good to watch. I would bear in mind how much noise you will have in the cab with out something to soak up the vibration and drumming . Wood would look cool but I don't think it will soak much sound up. . Rubber matting with insulation would maybe work ,
you could get a B & M shifter, or one that has the gate you need for the transmission. weld on that original emergency handle. then mount it to the floor where it works for you. my neighbour did that for his 54, but with an old hurst shifter handle.
How about some colourful 1940's style sheet linoleum for the floor? Fit the patina. I'd probably paint the metal and fabricate a rubber mat floor though, something you can hose out.
Is there any concern that throwing a fan belt could catch the throttle cable? I like your wood floor idea, oak or some kind of hardwood. If you decide to use carpet be sure to use automotive pad and carpet. I made a terrible mistake once using regular indoor/outdoor carpet and padding …. It is not fire or heat rated and while welding my exhaust and it caught on fire! The exhaust was over 6” away from the floor. I put it out but the toxic etching fumes filled the cab and did a number on my chrome dash and all of the glass.🤠👍👍
This is my favorite type of fabrication. Something that just works every time you get in the truck and keeps you smiling.
Dude, don't forget the throttle return spring..

Yea a box of wood flooring woodwork.

I’m enjoying your build Wally 😊
I love watching the little things. It's all interesting to me.

Love the build. I like your style, Mad Max engineering. I like how you plan it as you go. The old e brake handle as a shifter is a great idea!

If you choose the wood route, consider used pallet wood to get that vintage feel. Keep on trucking Wal. Addictive viewing.

Ingenuity vs buying new. What worked before can work again.

looking good, my 46 I had to turn the noise off for long rides
Parking brake handle cool idea for shifter trigger lever rev lock out , rubber floor mat .
I enjoy watching a real fabricator. Thanks

The journey making it is half the fun. Great job.
Wally, You remind me of myself. God Loves You.

This is a fun build to watch. I love your thought process on solving problems.
Great idea on the shifter! Hope it comes together but I'm sure whatever solution you come to will be awesome. What a fantastic project and thanks so much for sharing with all of us!
“Gettin there, one pice at a time” I’m really enjoying this project! You’re doing an awesome job.
I like regular upholstery. It makes help to quite and insulate the inside making the vehicle more enjoyable to drive.
Very good workmanship!!!!👍👍👍
WALLY, u are doing a great job getting the Throttle and Parking Brake done. transmission Lever and linkage next..
hey that space between the throttle pedal and the trans tunnel would be perfect to mount a fire extinguisher!
i agree.
I like the Rubber mat flooring. fits the age and style. Wood opens up a huge can o worms, Incorporating the brake unlock lever as the reverse lockout would be cool.

The transmission shifter would be cool to see next possibly👍🏻✌🏻
I like the rubber mat flooring keep up the good work this has been interesting all i can say is it's going to be a well built truck.
You got your moneys worth out of that cutoff disk at 18:18 ! Nice job, I'm sure you will be testing not the road soon.
I saw a truck bed that used old tire tread as liner. That would be a neat way to rubber line the floor inside but some wood trim would really make it look great.😁

Oh I figured it was the same. Maybe get one from a wrecking yard?
They have that rubber flooring that looks like wood. Would provide some insulation and look really good! Easy to install also.
love what
your doing ! I would use hull liner on the engine cover and kick panels area in navy blue !
bed liner for the floor .

Thank you! I wasn’t in a position either. I was fortunate to get the truck from a family member and the motorhome was a score for $400.
Man everything is looking great.
Great job enjoy watching your progress. Floor sheet of soundender with an aluminum tred plate screwed down over the deadener.
Nice work , I like the wood floors &maybe carpet on the front of the engine cover to match the seat. B&S restoration gives you 👍🏻up
Nice job, rubber mat would be nice. easy to clean..
It will definitely get seam sealed and sound deadener.

Awesome job ,happy Thanksgiving 😊
Thank you! You too!
Bed liner would be good for the engine cover but not the floor, too slick. Maybe some rubber mats.
Like some have already said rubber matting ( be good for sound deadening too). Another thought with what you said, wood but do it like the old Chevy truck beds with the metal channel pieces and wood.

Kinda what I’m thinking.
That empty spot next to the go petal how about a fire extinguisher and about the wood I suggested that early on and still by it.
i agree.
It’s all your fault then, lol. Couldn’t remember who it was.
Great job as always BTW, working with wood is the same as metal just measure and cut ! Simple !
I can’t weld wood back together when I screw up 😂
you can use the open are near the gas pedal to get a heater unit output there to keep your feet nice and warm or in your case it is more or less nice and cool. As for the floor - it is an old truck - so some nice hardwood to give it a wooden floor look would be great.
Very interesting as you create problems to solve.
I would think shortening the wheelbase would be next before brake line installation.
I was really referring to the lines to the master cylinder. Rear line will be simple to shorten.
I like the fab work the most
wood floors sounds nice
The pedal box I was think to cut it off so your flooring wood go under it or carpet ....
Reusable parts are the way to go .
Getting the fabrication juice flowing makes you feel good when you get it working .
Function 1st, then appearance later.
What are you going to use for the cooling system? Will the radiator be mounted high enough and over the height of the thermostat? Also Berliner the interior in a dark green and upholster the seat in a nice distressed dark green leather
Radiator will be up front, probably one out of a 90’s Chevy truck, they seem to be a good fit. It will be high enough.
Between the gas pedal and the trans tunnel might be a good spot for a small fire extinguisher
Some reclaimed oak wood would be really cool
For the floor, I would install sound proofing matting and have rubber carpet. Keep it simple.
Great job
The brake handle shifter would be cool. Wood floor yes!
Real thin planks of wood stained dark would look nice.
laminated wood flooring would be pretty cool
1/4" - 1/2" Cork, would insulate and help sound proof.
Great fab work and I'm with you waste not want not
The wood floor would be very cool I was actually thinking that
Doing exhaust stacks and a air intake stack might be cool like old school 70s cab over semis
Wood would look cool but I don't think it will soak much sound up. . Rubber matting with insulation would maybe work ,
For the floor and doghouse rubber horse stall mat from Tractor Supply.
Plans for soundproofing?
Loving the process/progress.🙂👍
Pallet wood definitely for the interior
Rubber mats would be cool, nice and thick.
Woid floor same as one the Bed would look awesome
26:04 LOL, wood grain LVP came to mind before you said wood
you could get a B & M shifter, or one that has the gate you need for the transmission. weld on that original emergency handle. then mount it to the floor where it works for you. my neighbour did that for his 54, but with an old hurst shifter handle.
I have been looking for something. I need a rear cable exit and a steel handle, most are aluminum. Oh, and it needs to be cheap 😂
Nice!
How about some colourful 1940's style sheet linoleum for the floor? Fit the patina. I'd probably paint the metal and fabricate a rubber mat floor though, something you can hose out.
good job
you should cover the interior with shag carpeting. Brown shag carpeting 😁
😂 Done!!
