I feel like part of revealing RDJ so early was not just the fact that his involvement may have been leaked sooner or later, but also for the audience to have a broader perspective than the characters in the film. Perhaps the reveal/payoff of taking off his mask in secret wars and seeing our beloved character reactions is something marvel wants.
