Horn Hacks, Episode 8: Accuracy on the Horn part 2
Hello and thanks for watching Horn Hacks! I am Jena Gardner and I teach horn at Western Illinois University. In the previous episode, I gave you an exercise called “Sing, Buzz, Play” for any single note on the horn. In this episode, we are going to expand that to a longer phrase with more leaps.
Let’s start with this simple phrase: 🎶
As before we are going to break it down into three parts: Sing, then Buzz, then Play.
As a preliminary exercise before you sing it, you may need to play it on another instrument like the piano, or listen to a recording.
Demo: Sing 🗣🎶
Make sure that you are accurately repeating the pitches you just heard!
Demo: Buzz 🐝🎶
It’s important that you glissando between the notes, make sure your air keeps moving throughout the phrase!
Demo: Play 📯🎶
As you play, try to imagine that you are singing along in your head.
The Sing, Buzz, Play strategy can be applied to ANYTHING; easy or hard!
