ok replacing my old edit to say that i made this video back when i was still relatively new to enstars so i do want to admit that the humor around the title and content of this is based on western concepts of christianity which i have since learned ABSOLUTELY DO NOT APPLY to tatsumi. i wont do anything with this video because i do want at least some part of enstars to be accessible to people but i do want to advise people to be mindful of how they treat tatsumi's relation to his faith 🙏

honestly, as a religious person myself, I did NOT expect Tatsumi to be religious in the slightest. But I seriously appreciate him for that, it's really comforting seeing characters having a strong connection to their faith, because it makes me feel like it's possible for me to get closer to mine aha

- Second commandment: "Thou shalt not make idols" (is literally an idol) (in a different sense but still)
- Taught Jun to say "goddamn" to "direct his anger at God instead of other people", even though it's directly against the whole "don't say the Lord's name in vain" thing
- Was originally supposed to be Hiyori's partner in eve (couldn't join because of the... revolution kerfuffle) which would have made Tatsumi a member of Eden (?!#?;_?';)

As a Christian/believer of god, who has been around other religious people, none of which who speak *anything* remotely like this, I find this HILARIOUS that someone thought to make him talk like this as if this is typical casual conversation for religious people or something 😂
I feel like all that was missing from this video was him trying to calm someone else down from anger by telling them to ask theirselves “what would Jesus do?” or something 🤣
It’s so weird watching this because I feel like every line he spoke was carefully crafted in a way to make the viewer/player be like “kyaaaaa! 😍❤️❤️❤️” but instead I’m just sitting here with a reactory face that’s a mix between disbelief, horrified cringe, dying inside, and dying of absolute laughter 😂 😂

to be fair you have to remember that enstars was made for a culture that is far divorced from our perception of, and experience with, self proclaimed devout christians. as i mentioned in another reply, christianity has nowhere near the cultural influence nor the number of followers in japan that it does in the west, and thus tatsumi's character and mannerisms are written in a way that partly reflects his status as a member of a religious minority. perhaps its a bit over the top, yes, but 1) this is just a small selection of his dialogue, and 2) his faith does serve as his lifelong motivation, after all. ironically enough, it is in fact the westernized perception of devout christians that lends itself to the humor of this video.
i forgot where i was going with this little tangent, but i hope it makes sense. i wasnt raised christian despite being from a predominantly christian country so do with all of this what you will.

I started playing Enstars two weeks ago right? Never even heard of the game before this. I see this guy in the story and I get that he's heavily religious but something about the way he stands, dresses, grips his fucking notebook like it's his wife's hand or some shit, he just Looks Like A Youth Pastor. Like, he looks like he's about to invite me to the church's basement for pizza and worship.
Edit: The watch. The elbow pads. His whole palette. He would put veggie tales on and claim he's doing it ironically because youth do things ironically, right? And then get severely distressed when the youth he's pastoring actually get into it

Honestly, Tatsumi's view of God and christianity has been covered in such depth in enstars to a point I didn't expect. I have only played JPstars so idk how far Engstars is/was at the point of this video so maybe spoilers (?) (can't remember the exact stories of this information)
Tatsumi does not really believe in a figuratively human God, he rather believes that all the things in this world that cause us to want to do good: the human urge to do good, that that can be called God. That all shared experiences of moral good and love together form the metaphorical concept of God. As a christian, when I first started playing Enstars I feared that the highly religious character would be portrayed as a psychopath, as Japanese media oftentimes does with religious (mainly christian) characters.
Oftentimes these 'priests' are egoistically following their own morals, while hiding it as 'but this is what God wants', maybe colliding with the overarching Japanese fear of cults (which, considering the horrible dealings with cults in Japan, can be slightly expected), and the huge minority of monotheistic believers in Japan.
All this together made me really enjoy the way Tatsumi was written, actually diving into his personal beliefs and theology, which made him a lot more complex and also made it all the more enjoyable to read his stories. As a christian I do not necessarily agree with all of Tatsumi's theology, but that doesn't matter to me. I think all kinds of literature and experiences are able to make someone think more, and Tatsumi did make me think more about my own beliefs. I think that on its own is already very valuable. Tatsumi was a breath of fresh air in Japanese media, and made me like Enstars all the more!

As an atheist, Tatsumi is basically the only heavily religious character that I can stand. Even more then that, I actually love the guy a lot and appreciate how much his religion means to him. It is a bit cringey but he's just a genuinely good person. The writers did a great job with him! =)
also an atheist, I love tatsumi because he's not self righteous despite the religiousness. he's very aware of his own mistakes and the imperfections of the people around him.
also him saying "I'm definitely going to hell" during one of the alkaloid events was shocking as hell
I am agonistic as hell, and yet the moment I saw this man I sacrificed my savings to roll for his card "Silent Prayer." And only realized after I got it that he was religious, which makes me like him more. I don't see many religious characters in gacha games that aren't FGO and I find it ironic that he's my favorite so far (Personality-wise. Appearance, voice, and all my life savings all go to Valkyrie.)

Im christian and i find him so funny like ... Who makes a christian character talk like that??? 🤣🤣🤣 It's so unrealistic and hilarious. The most funny for me was when he yelled "away with you, satan!" 🤣🤣🤣 That was so true for me because of my neighbor who, at least once a month, excorcises her house of demons. Like one day i was doing laundry outside, and there was so much noise coming from her house - like doors banging, some kid wailing, and just sounds of feet running about in the house, and until i heard them all near the attic where she went "Get out of this house satan!!! Go away!!! In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, i command you to leave!!!" And the people begun loudly praying Our Father while she continued with driving away the demon/satan." And i, in our yard, was just ... "What the freak is going on in there?? If they drive the demon out of their house, then it'll go to our house?!!!" 😅 Anyways, i've strayed. I love Tatsumi tho. And im wondering what he done in the past. He sounds like he was so bad back then, like he murdered people or something. 😅 And i thought it had something to do with HiMERU because he's seems so hateful towards Tatsumi.
tatsumi's faith is a core part of his character, and i feel the overemphasis makes sense given his upbringing especially when japanese christians did not have much religious freedom until recently and, i believe, are still somewhat persecuted. i won't spoil anything but tatsumi is an interesting character and if you want to know more about his past actions and history with himeru, i suggest reading the obbligato event story!

I downloaded enstars bcs I was bored asf but what made me sell my soul is tatsumi's grand christian entrance, i didnt expect that in an idol rhythm game of all things LMAO and I appreciate it as an agnostic person. But I'm devastated to know that I missed his 5* priest card cuz I just started playing last week :'))
all gacha cards get added to the permanent pool a few months after their initial release iirc! dont feel bad though i scouted a total of 90 times for mika and tatsumi's feature scouts back to back and got neither 😭

he set off to become an idol so he could mellow the public's opinion of religious minorities and help build a world where he and others like him didnt have to hide their faith. christians are one such religious minority in japan and legally werent able to be open about it until somewhat recently, historically speaking
im still somewhat new to enstars myself so this explanation may not be 100% accurate but tatsumi is an interesting character and i do recommend reading more on him

As an Asian catholic, I had to do a double take when they announced his character. I’ve been playing the game since 2015 and while there have been cults and Buddhism throughout the years, for some reason it still felt weird to see Christianity xD not in a bad way, but I certainly didn’t see that coming hahahahaa I love him lots now, as well as all of alkaloid ❤🩵
As for the way he speaks, of course it’s not like we all talk like this. But to me personally it was, since we do have a priest in our family xD this is exactly him hahahaha
