Request for part 2 of Tad and Jeremy. You scratched too many surfaces with those two. Love learning the science behind the living soil and how it works. Thanks again Chris for always keeping the knowledge 100 percent free. Shows your true character for the community
The learning curve is steep at first. Don't get discouraged when, in a few months or years, you feel like your learning slows. Those frustrations are a sign that you have a weakness, and it tells you what to work on. I wish you all the best in your garden and life.
Chris, you're the man. You've taught me so much since I started growing, and introduced me to so many awesome growers from whom I've gotten endless information. Without your channel I'm not sure where I would be, I may have given up growing completely! Because of what you guys have taught me I successfully harvested my first ever grow and am currently on day 18 flower of my second (far more successful) run. Thank you so much, genuinely, for giving me the motivation to just TRY. I found a passion for growing I will surely continue pursuing for the rest of my life.
Finally an organic gardener on here who doesn’t downplay the significance of pH. In organics it’s less of an issue than when using synthetics because you have that buffering capacity but there’s absolutely an advantage to pHing, even in organic systems and it takes 15 seconds. Just do it.
I've had more issues by not PHing then I could even mention..I was always told its not an issue in organics. But all of my problems disappeared once I started checking and using a ph down or vinegar or lemon juice.
Requesting episode two, three, and more of Tad & Jeremy! Your show blew me away with how many important issues you touched on. Thanks for keeping it real and sharing your knowledge with everyone.
About 18 mins Tad talks about the size of pots and beds used for organic gardening . After 5 years of growing I moved to 15 Gal pots and cover crops and everything became so much simpler. Aquatic fish keeping works the same way in which it is easier to maintain balance with bigger tanks rather than smaller.
Tad is the man Get all my stuff from him or Jeremy and maybe a pinch of down to earth. And homemade of course!!. Big ups to Tad for all the free education he provides. Thanks Chris, getting great guests I've been loving seeing these pop up Saturday morning hahah
Shout out to Jack's! I started with their product, and now I'm doing more organic. Jack's never steered me wrong. Plus it's easy. Clone, RO, Bloom, and Finish. Happy Growing!
First comment ….kis Organics have always been a great source of information for me. They helped me with understanding Blumats with living soil and so much more. Great guest…Saturday evening entertainment and learning sorted 🫡
I just started to RE- use my soil a short time ago. I do have to say that it helps the wallet BIG time and i re-amend with worm castings fish bone meal and Roots Organics Uprising with great success. I normally start with happy Frog and Coco and amend the soil in the beginning as well.
Chris, thank you for all your help. I have used your advise in my home indoor garden. I bought your book 2 weeks ago, read it, and ordered another one and had you send it to my brother in Florida. Thank you for your all your help!! Love all the videos.
Thanks for bringing Tad on today!! Jim(Clackamas) Jeremy (BaS) Jeff and Elaine are my go to vids keep up the great pod cast bro lovin every minute of it!
Definitely do a part two do educating us al. I’m gonna have to watch it again again to even comprehend it all this information. Thanks for everything you do guys.
this is such an awesome topic!! i... was a synthetic grower. moving towards organic but ive grown synthetic and synganic. ive been using the same soil for 5 years nonstop always going in a continuous grow and i learned why farmers rotate their crops. my soil never got reamended and was just in continuous motion... well... the soil became just a medium without any nutrients in it. salt content was really high... the soil just couldnt take it anymore. great epi fam!! this is another banger with a whole bunch of info in it!!
I started out in buffered coco, which worked ok, then added bagged garden soil the next cycle and ever since, it’s a mix of coco, dirt, compost, worm castings and perlite. Even in a big 10 gallon pot, it easy to carry dry and easy to drag around in the tent fully watered and the results have been very good indeed. I use synthetic nutrients, mostly fox farm.
Try using what you currently use with seaweed and guano instead of synth nutes? I'm sure your yeild will be comparible but youd find the taste just way improved.
Use the Castine blend, mixed with the stonington blend by Coast of Maine.. and then add all your extras, but use those as the base.. best results I’ve ever had
Excellent bro. Your timing is magical.. i sincere mean that. I was just came to YT to search more reuse techniques and your vid pops up freshh. Very nice.
Depending on the nutes your using ,if your organics only you may find that theres nutes that indeed are more avail during the second run ,altho when re using soil like this I still would re amend it with a compost at the minimum
I find that there's a ton of terminology being used, in particular, the "live" soil, that really reminds me of the aquarium culture. Often, if you want nice, organic growth of a biome in a tank, you add in "live" substrate, like sand, rock, or even the remains of corals.
Another great episode. It's always interesting to see what the guests tend to focus on. People tend to talk about the thing that they are currently most interested in. Heavy metal buildup seems to be a common theme in this episode. I think it's very important for the layman to understand ways to reduce the risks of heavy metal toxicity, though it's beyond the scope of the typical gardener. Ultimately, there isn't a great deal that can be done about it outside of frequent soil testing. I tend to disagree on the dolomite lime aspect, as you shouldn't really be going crazy with this amendment, though I understand how it could be easily over-applied. This was a bit of a scary episode in realizing how little heavy metals are actually regulated.
I was going to say, then he said it. TGA/ Subcool is what/who comes to mind when I see or hear the term Supersoil. It sounds like KIS and Build a Soil etc have taken off with the concept of preparing soil for seed to harvest weed grows. It's a really good time to start growing your own without a lot of confusion.
I use only a few types of nutrients like blending aloe vera with rain water and comfrey blending with only rain water and worm castings tea I have found these to be all I need and some times I start with fish emulsion depending on the plants 👍✌️
There are many soil test kits for sale under $100. They will disclose most attributes but, not usually, heavy metals. FWIW, I have the same three raised beds that have been used for 20 years. I've never added new soil but have added cover crops, mulch, and compost. I went no-till about 15 years ago.
I love to use some Organic dry meal amendments in my soil mix. Not a lot. But I can use less of my main nute, And then I've had fantastic results with Blue Planet Nutrients Farmer's Pride Organic blend! Their Grow does have a tiny amount of Calcium Nitrate, while their Bloom blend has a tiny amount of MKP- Mono Potassium Phosphate. These ingredients are the lowest listed on each bottle. Almost every RUclips grower was using Blue Planet Nutrients, even paying full price, which isn't much, as they don't sponsor people or spend any money on advertising. Mr Grow It, rocked it for awhile with Blue Planet, I'm pretty sure. Eventually, Flora Flex and others started sponsoring growers channels to use their product. If you haven't tried Blue Planet Nutrients, especially their Farmers Pride blend, I guarantee you'll love it. Very clean product, that makes things almost too easy. Hopefully, someone will remember the name, and try it. If you haven't tried them before, it's definitely a really great product that works simply!👍💯✌️🙏
Would you be interested in interviewing the specialist in phenotype and breeding selects? My family friend who ran the genetics program for our family farm is very knowledgeable in farming industry. I think seeing her on her would be beneficial
Gypsum helps lawns that are in contact with road salts in winter. Put it down as soon as the snow melts for the last time, and it will help leech sodium. This will allow the plant to uptake what it wants as soon as it's out of dormancy. Don't use too much, and don't do it every year. Once again a soil test won't hurt.
After I finish a grow I empty containers into a tote and re ammend with gaia green 444, worm castings, ground egg shells, coffee grounds. Hasn't failed me yet
I grow 98% organic. Only synthethic things are hoses, buckets and pots which are of plastic. Going to direction where all the pots were made of old truck-tires. Different pot sizes give different results. Not only the size of the crop, but way the plants ripen. By the time of harvesting, small-pot plants had turned to yellowish/brownish, while big-pot plants remained fresh green. More yellow, less chlorofyll taste. Flushing the nutrients away from big pots before harvest might be solution, but then I would have to input same nutrients back before re-using the soil. Which I solved by placing the compost down from growing area, so that all the exces water and nutrients flows to compost and wait there until next season. Ideally every single nitrogen, phosphorius, potassium etc. atom remains inside the ecosystem circle, and kitchen waste is the only imported nutrition. Now I try to figure out how to reuse pee. It contains something that plants cant take, nutrient burns appear next day if I add pee 1 dl/10 l to water. So I’m trying different compost types to create ecosystem which breaks human urea to plant/fungi/bacteria/worm usable form quickly enough before the smell developes. City gardens and parks should have shady compost corners where people can go to contribute their input for ecosymbiosis.
I have been reusing my soil since I started growing indoors. My grows have been increasing in size, so I have been adding new soils to the old, but I am at a point that I have to add new soils because I am not quite getting the air to the roots that I would like, and green algae has been a problem this grow. My new grow is a good mix of old soil and new. I can see the difference already.
Hey Chris i was wondering what you thought about the Build a soul earth boxes/ if we could see a video of you trying one out? Love the podcast and youtube channel keep it up ive learned alot!
lots of high end cannabis growers are gonna disagree with his 6.8 ph target range for livining soil, I think that's too high especially during flower when phosphorous prefers right at 6.0. Also feeding at 6.8 your gonna see low 7's or higher runoff in most cases.
I’ve reused my soil for the last 5 years. Originally, I just amended and added humus and worm castings. But last year I noticed a drop off in growth, so I’m buying new soil this year…
Great episode thank you guys!! Got a question? Is it good to use the liquid in the bottom of the worm bin or no? I'm going to start Verma composting and get mixed info. Thanks guys!!
Thanks to Tad Hussey for coming onto the podcast today!

Thank you Sir 💚
Learned so much over the last year or so from you.
How in tarnation do I remove the roots ? The entire soil block comes up from my beds!.... unless you mean remove the plants stumps only?..cheers!
Part two!!!
Part 2 on individual amendments would be amazing. Thank you both for the information you share!!

This guy just put me on a rabbit hole on heavy metals. Eye opening how important testing can be
I have learned a ton in 14 days. I am excited about the thought of how much one can know with 17 years of experience 🍿🍿
The learning curve is steep at first. Don't get discouraged when, in a few months or years, you feel like your learning slows. Those frustrations are a sign that you have a weakness, and it tells you what to work on. I wish you all the best in your garden and life.

exactly
I'm just starting out on going organic and putting away liquid nutes. Does anyone know what kind of Vinegar to use when bringing down PH?
@@kevinnickel7529 Didn't notice at first but you said you use vinegar. What kind do I need to use?
Happy to see you have Tad on the show! 2 of my favorite shows!
Perfect timing trying to reuse soil
Requesting episode two, three, and more of Tad & Jeremy! Your show blew me away with how many important issues you touched on. Thanks for keeping it real and sharing your knowledge with everyone.
Definitely want a part two! This was very helpful and digestible. Thanks!
Love the podcast. Been doing no till for over a year now. Currently on my 3rd cycle in the same soil.

Excellent program, Chris...great and useful information! Thanks, Bro!
Yes sometimes calcium acetate where I make egg shells and white vinegar but I enjoy the wisdom in these videos too!
Part 2 for sure, very informative!
I put my clones directly into the ten gallon pots I harvested. Week 8 of flower is looking better than the last run.
Depending on the nutes your using ,if your organics only you may find that theres nutes that indeed are more avail during the second run ,altho when re using soil like this I still would re amend it with a compost at the minimum
Part 2 is a must
Definitely a yes to the part 2

Use TDS&EC meter on
Reusing Coco/perlite:
Decomposing roots feed microrize = organically fortified .
Plant seeds and cuttings in their final grow bag

Boveda also helped preserved seeds from 5 yrs ago w 90% germ rate. Was worth it for me. 😂 I just commented about a sponsor shoot me now
I use jacks in super low doses in my resevoir with my blumats. Fantastic results first run. I top water in microbe teas every 3 weeks.
What ec?
I use 1 single tear drop of pH down in a 1 gallon jug to get my pH around 6.8 range with NYC tap water
Great episode!
In my opinion, I would only reuse soil only if the plant or plants that grew in that soil did not get sick in anyway
Part 2 forsure
Great show on soil.
First rate. Tad part two.
yes on part 2
Great video. Much appreciated information. 🙏🏽
Great episode
Part 2! Jeff Lowenfels and Jeremy Silva too please :)

Come Back Tad!!!
I'm so sick of rain in the VA mountains almost everyday for months
More please
I flush @ the end of the plants life to 100 or less ppm's, Let the soil dry and then add in my nutrients on my next grow.
This guy's good.
bring him back cause i got questions and even more question
great info, ty
I was just thinking about this today.
GET OUTTA MY HEAD!
Great episode thank you guys!! Got a question? Is it good to use the liquid in the bottom of the worm bin or no? I'm going to start Verma composting and get mixed info. Thanks guys!!
