Another honest and informative video Daz👍😊. I haven’t got a Tempest as my current set-up does the job for me in my pond but if I were considering it, your revue would certainly have helped me make my mind up👍😊. Was great to actually meet you at the show, stay safe buddy👍🐟🈲😊
Hi Hi mate, you to, you are much taller than I thought !! 😁😁😁 It was a bit of a blur to be honest, so many people stopped me, mostly to meet the dog, I had a great weekend. I didn't actually see much of the koi if I'm honest but that doesn't matter, the social element was brilliant for me. I just wish I had managed to get to more shows.
Hi Gareth, I did, it was easily the most enjoyable show I've ever been to. I stayed on the show ground in my camper van and took my dog so I think it was the social element more than anything if I'm honest. A friend of mine hired a van for the weekend so I had like minded company which helped a lot. Met loads of people who recognised my ugly mug from the videos to which is a bit weird 😁😁 What do you think of the new logo and banner?
Hi I’ve had my tempest for approximately six months now. I have fitted an adjustable air valve in the top once it’s working I open the air valve and it acts like a Venturi. My tempest is on a pump fed system and so is before my eazypod. Like you I flush everyday. Super informative vids. Many thanks
Good job. My tempest is inside. But I leave the door open when I’m home and the tempest is green. I’ve also had a bit of pox this year on one fish that hasn’t cleared completely. Hope your good man. Keep up the videos. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi mate, I'm good, thank you, how about yourself? I've had a lot of pox this year, its only really cleared up fully in the last few weeks and now the temp is dropping I expect it will come back. Very annoying but hopefully they will grow out of it. What do you think of the new logo and banner?
Cheers Mar, yeah I'm the same, I can't see me not having one now. A bit pricey but the performance is well worth the price. What do you think of the new logo and banner?
Another great update as always buddy , honest as ever. I saw you at the national the dog walking you lol , didn't have space to stop you but will try and catch up next time . Good to see you looking well , keep safe
Hi Mark, thanks very much mate. Yeah he had the best 2 days of his life, he doesn't normally get to interact much with people and other dogs so he loved all the attention 🍻🍻🍺🍻🍻 What do you think of the new logo and banner?
I've got 2 bits of Japanese matting in my Nexus 210 exit taking out all fines. Clean the filter every single day like you. Much cheaper, as effective and no extra space used.
Hi there, sounds good. There are definitely cheaper ways of achieving the same effect if you are willing to do a little bit more work. I'm just old and lazy to be honest so I love being able to clean it by just turning a valve but I do agree its possible to do it cheaper 👍👍
Hi mate, definitely !! I'm rubbish at getting stuff done, I've got right lazy in my old age 😁😁 I can call one night this week after work if its convenient? Its going to be dark early evening soon. What about Tuesday?
Hi there, give me a shout mate if you see me. I hoped to get to all the shows this year but I've only managed the great british show in the end. Something seemed to come up every time. I really enjoyed it to, I'm definitely going to make time to get to more next season. What do you think of the new logo and banner?
H Carly and thank very much. They have grown well for the most part. I've had no feeder running so its not as much as it could be but that's fine as they will quickly get to big for my pond if I'm not careful 🍻🍻🍻
My Tempest had a leaky valve and the replacement leaked as did the original fitting!. I “cured” this drip by utilising a small rawl plug into the air-tube on the valve assembly. That stops the leak. Just need to remove said real plug during a flush/discharge cycle and re-insert when filled back up.
That doesn't sound good mate. I would get back on to them and get another one if its still not right. They do seem a bit hit and miss. I was led to believe they had upgraded to a new valve now but it sounds like there are still issues.
Hi Ryan, it varies as I normally run a feeder and give about 10 or 12 feeds a day but circumstance has meant I haven't had it on this year. As such, probably around 200 grams I would say on average. There is no filling them, I could literally throw handfuls in every 30 minutes it seems at the moment.
Thanks for this. I'm thinking of getting one next year. Daz is yours run off its own pump or Easy Pod -> pump -> Tempest? If gravity fed does the Tempest need siting below the top of the pond. I noticed Lau's is above pond height.
Hi Suzy, the tempest is pump fed as its effectively a small bead filter. You need it sited after your pump. Mine is gravity fed pod, pump, tempest, uv, shower, pond. It works perfectly because the pod and tempest run at the same flow more or less. The downside is that you need a very narrow, 4 tier, shower to match to the low flow rate.
I never really understood the need for a Tempest. It looks good and has a funky cleaning cycle but does it really make that much difference? If you have a good mechanical filtration system already i.e. drum or one of the EA Easy products then why do you need another smaller filtration system? If you took it off your setup would you notice?
Hi Ian, I would definitely notice on my system. I've seen quiet a lot of drum owners add them and see a big improvement to. In terms of the size of particle it takes out it is another level to larger, more course, main filters. Its very specialised where most large filter systems are jack of all trades, master of none. They do mechanical filtration well, they do biological filtration well, but to do both well you have to have a trade off. The tempest is low flow and very focused on mechanical filtration so you dont have to sacrifice mechanical performance to achieve good biological performance by moving the flow rate away from optimum for mechanical.
A another question. My pond is about 3 and a half feet, was thinking to dig 4 feet but end up with 3.5 feet is that still ok? I live in USA Massachusetts what do you think?😅
4:28 Body shape has improved considerably or abnormalities are nowhere to be found. I would have liked to see it from directly above if I could, but it seems ideal, with more back flesh overlapping rather than lower half of the body.
Hello Sir, good to hear from you. Are you referring to the Chag? I will get them out shortly and video her in a bowl for you. I've had personal issues this year which has meant I haven't been able to run a feeder so growth is not as it could have been but they have still made progress.
Do you still rate the tempest been hearing a few bad reports on them bought one but not sure it's worth fitting . Running an easypod on a 500 gallon pond Thanks
Hi Simon, Yes mate, very highly. I would never be without one now, I'd always find a way to get one in, no matter how big or small my pond was. They are cracking filters for polishing the water up and giving a little bio buffer to. A doddle to clean, takes a couple of minutes each day. Mines been running close to 2.5 years now and hasn't missed a beat. Its still clean and looks like new. All I have ever done is open the valve once a day 👍👍👍
How much back pressure does it add to the pump, if you had a vari pump how much would you have to turn it up to achieve the same flow rate as before installing it.
Hi Richard, I don't know actual numbers but it wasn't a lot. From memory I think I went from 45 to 50 watts or something like that. I would always recommend doing a flow test though as every system is different.
Is it possible to mount it below water level, like a preasure filter ? With a valve on the top + bottom when you will do a clean, cant find any info about it.
Hi mate, yes definitely. It is essentially a small bead filter in that respect. So as long as it is after a pump and you can isolate the inlet and outlet for flushing it will be just fine 👍👍
Hi David, its very much dependant on your system and head loss but I would start around 40%. Get yourself a big container and put it under your return. See how much water you collect in say 30 seconds then multiply it up to give the actual flow. Then just tweak your pump from there and repeat until spot on 👍👍
Hi Brandy, I'm guessing you are not in the UK so I'm going to struggle to recommend a particular brand to you but I run a spindrifter bottom drain which has an aerated rubber dome built on top. You can get these type of dome aerators separately though so if you dont have a bottom drain I would recommend picking one of the domes up, they come weighted so they dont float up. For the pump I would suggest a 40 litre pump. Trey to find a diaphragm pump rather than a piston pump. They are much quieter and perform much better as well as lasting longer.
Hi Michael, sorry for the delay replying, did you sort this out? Its working for me on several devices and I haven't had anyone else say there was a problem. very strange
I love your channel mate, especially as a know little Koi keeper, but as someone who has messed with RUclips for a while, PLEASE change your audio to mono. Getting your audio in only one ear really drives me crazy and stops me from just binging video after video.
Hi mate and thank you. I've actually just got a new camera and 2 wireless mics and I'm trying to improve my production so your feedback is perfectly timed. I've already made a video on Oxygen in Spring but I will take your advice on board for future videos 👍👍👍

Good to see you back by the pond. I use a pod tempest shower combo the same as you and it works great. Cheers
Hi mate, good to be back, thanks 👍👍
What do you think of the new logo and banner?
Nice update mate on the tempest, love the special effects on the video. 👍👍👍
Cheers Andrew, I got a new PC for my birthday so I can use better software than previously. Hopefully I can get better with a bit of practice.
Nice update on tempest hope you are well and nice to see you back again 🙏🐟🐟🐟🐟🙏
Hi Carol and thank you as always. Its good to be back. Hopefully I can be a bit more consistent now as I've got loads of videos I want to make 🍺🍻
Good little video Daz hope you enjoyed Newark on the Sunday it was good on the Saturday.

Thanks Kevin, that sounds an interesting mod, I haven't heard of that before 👍👍
Not seen you for a few weeks Daz, you are looking well. Thanks for the update buddy, looking good.
Hi hi, cheers mate, I appreciate that, what do you think of the new logo and banner?
Wow Dazzle, your fish are growing like mad. Hikari Weatgerm is tops.
Hi Hi mate, considering I haven't been able to have the feeder running this year they have definitely grown well 👍👍

Great video Daz
I’ve had my tempest over a year had a leaking valve EA replaced FOC.
Wouldn’t be without it now crystal clear water 👍

Great video! Proof you don’t need a giant pond to keep koi!
Cheers mate, much appreciated 🍻🍻

Nice one daz hope all is good with you mate. 👍
All good Col, all good, thank you. How about you, hows things going?
Your fish are huge now😂 they look beautiful daz 😊

haha, I agree mate, I wouldn't be without one now 🍻🍻
Good video. Out of interest, how many grams do you feed a day?
Hi Ryan, it varies as I normally run a feeder and give about 10 or 12 feeds a day but circumstance has meant I haven't had it on this year. As such, probably around 200 grams I would say on average. There is no filling them, I could literally throw handfuls in every 30 minutes it seems at the moment.
Maybe a future project for my pond down the line a bit. 👍
Hi Micky, yes I recon they would bring good benefit to almost every system. Even people with drums are seeing improvements in fines and clarity 👍👍
Thanks for this. I'm thinking of getting one next year. Daz is yours run off its own pump or Easy Pod -> pump -> Tempest? If gravity fed does the Tempest need siting below the top of the pond. I noticed Lau's is above pond height.

Hi again, yes 3.5 feet is ok. Ideal is a little deeper but 3.5 will work no problem 👍👍
4:28 Body shape has improved considerably or abnormalities are nowhere to be found. I would have liked to see it from directly above if I could, but it seems ideal, with more back flesh overlapping rather than lower half of the body.

What aerator and stone do you recommend for a 6k pond?
Hi Brandy, I'm guessing you are not in the UK so I'm going to struggle to recommend a particular brand to you but I run a spindrifter bottom drain which has an aerated rubber dome built on top. You can get these type of dome aerators separately though so if you dont have a bottom drain I would recommend picking one of the domes up, they come weighted so they dont float up.
