TBH one of the reason you're one of the more interesting developer RUclipsrs is that you do bring some humour into your videos I think it's an overreaction to see your tweet as 'problematic' somehow - it was clearly tongue in cheek. I highly doubt many Angular developers were offended by it and if anyone takes a lighthearted joke about a javascript framework seriously I suggest they go outside and walk in the park or something hahaha
While I do have much respect for Dan, I have to disagree with his sentiment in this regard. I think we need to be able to have fun and make jokes. It's no different than joking about how uncool Java is, the quirks of JavaScript or using jQuery in the 21st century is a big no-no that has existed since the birth of those languages. Humor is important, when done with good intensions. I personally don't see your takes against Angular as hateful or demeaning. I can understand that some may see it in a different perspective. It may be because they don't have the full context to see the humor in it. They might also be used to see _actual_ hate, especially as an open-source maintainer. But I still believe it's important in our community to not be isolated in an all 'serious'-bubble.

I was planning to learn Angular, but because of you, I just deleted this on my roadmap. So it has many impacts on this framework I think especially for the new developers.
Angular.js is a respectable project from the historical point of view because it did out perform the other frameworks at that time with quite some new ideas and opinions, and in addition it started the trend in which React and Vue got created. Pretty much the same as why IE is essential in order to have chrome and firefox. 😄 I would like to see you make videos talking about why angular sucks with more detailed and rational explanations (e.g. improper designs, unnecessary over-complicated concepts, boilerplate code, etc.), I want to see the why's (or wise) instead of just "it sucks" in a sarcastic manner. In my opinion, angular should be more condemned than angular.js because it's supposed to be "standing on the shoulders of giants" and so should have been much better than how it is now.
Sometimes self reflective videos like this are nice. Harping on how "X technology is bad" gets tiresome pretty fast, and in any case, we need bad tech around to help us understand how to make things better in the future.
Not sure why anyone is mad. The humor is fantastic and actually lacking in developer channels. I think angular as a technology is much worse than react and we will see it fall off quite hard, the jokes are well in nature and I think it’s helping cure the ridiculous technology battle between angular and react, as react is now going to come out as the winner. No one should be upset at Ben, I think people are being too sensitive.
I loved the running Angular gag, I have started watching your videos recently and the constant bashing of Angular was actually pretty funny to me. I often overuse my dumb jokes so it is my duty to support a fellow "comedian"
I’m really glad someone like Dan pulled you up on the Angular bashing. I used to write in Angular myself but switched to React years ago and never looked back. There are many reasons why I prefer React over Angular but honestly both are amazing libraries. I think you’re an excellent teacher Ben and I really appreciate your videos but sometimes your style of humour (mocking communities or types of developers) rubs me the wrong way. I agree with Dan’s sentiments in that regard but believe it extends beyond just the angular community. I too have noticed your style of humour often involves mocking other people or putting them down. I hope you can realise that as someone in the lime light your words can have a profound effect on people. It’s up to you what you want to do with your voice and how you want to be perceived. Humour is wonderful in otherwise dry coding videos but please understand there are ways to be funny without using others as the butt of your jokes. And please know that I otherwise enjoy your videos, keep them up!
It's sad that you're gladdened by this. Considering Dan's following, he should be more careful calling someone out like this, that's what truly irresponsible. There are countless jokes about PHP, JS and Ruby - where is everyone protecting those? Right. And it's not needed, let people have fun. Once one starts learning and working, they will see that it all does the same thing and using one over another could simply be a matter of preference. Jokes are OK and Ben's jokes do not create any division in our community. Virtue signalling call-outs like this from people of Dan's limelight are more harmful than sarcastic remarks about Angular and carrots.
I agree the joke was a bit overdone at this point, but it's still just a joke, if you feel that this is causing division in the community then that's just being overly sensitive.
I love these jokes. You could swap 'React' with 'Angular' in every joke and it would still be funny, because it's a joke. You can't say anything without offending someone. Don't let people emotionally manipulate you into doing what's "right" for the "community". Be yourself. That being said, it would have been savage if the second half of this video was you making more Angular jokes.
I was heavy into react. But once I realized that I have no idea how to do ssr with CRA I had to move. Then I tried next.js... Man did I hate that you can't have both sass, and css at the same time. So I tried out nuxt, and it literally took me only a day to figure it out and it's way simpler (sometimes). I think the "vanilla" html is way better than jsx. The one thing I don't like is that it's not as flexible as react, like you can store a component in a variable and use in the render thing, but you can't do that with Vue. Thanks for reading this and letting me get it of my chest, you literally just wasted about 45 seconds of your life.
You're awesome Ben, keep being you. You have taught me so much through my career so far. Dan needs to chill imo, wanna talk about creating a toxic environment, sheesh.
If you keep repeating a joke, people will think you are serious, I rarely repeat my joke to a specific person, especially sarcastic one. I like sarcastic jokes, but I am also careful about the repercussion. Just for you to know I like your Angular joke and I know it brings you audiences.
Aside from the joke, I guess Dan really thinks he is a leader of some kind of React Religion. It just hurts when someone in that position is that much ignorant in non-technical issues.
as smart as Dan is, and im not sure how else to articulate this. but he's soft as f*** and his tweets are cringe. it's like nobody is allowed to challenge each other unless its a super formal, perfectly politically correct formatted and signed letter. he just got very used to being 'the protector of everyones feelings'
Dan was tring to say that AngularJS is after all an open-source it's in support for the developer community , But on the contrary I understand that you are clearly joking and being sarcastic when you bash AngularJS so it's alright I guess.
I worked with angular.js in a long project Their choice, not mine After a friendly argue with the head of the project who chose it for the project, we stopped at the point that he said : "it is broken and after some attemp to fix it, the developers gave up and started angular 2!"😌 I tried angular 9 and it is not better. At some point, I don't even know what is going on! 😕🙃
As long as the rest of the tech community is not shunned for bashing, js, php, fortran, windows and android(and it's good that it will never happen because no one actually wants them to disappear, well except for IE maybe, for the rest it's just people harmlessly talking), this is a cheap and lazy attempt at a virtue signalling post. It is indeed sad that some people support Dan's oversensitive and even abusive, irresponsible position, but having seen the community's response and support here, it is somewhat comforting that there are people who feel they have to come forward and speak up to support the truly normal and friendly community in tech.
I think angular is pretty hard to learn and implement. Just take the example of implementing forms in angular and react, in react you can do pretty easily with react hook form with far less code(or some other) but in angular i have to write a lot of codes(reactive or basic form). Angular is giving me lot of headache's in my first job(intern)
Seeing the amount of policing by the development community has planted a seed of doubt in this prospective career. I think Dan should take a chill pill and relax. Jokes are jokes, and with the current direction of America politics, we should get as many in as we can before they're made illegal.
Your style of humor is quite sarcastic, and certain types of people have a hard time dealing with that. The current online climate gives such people more of a platform and more leverage than is justified. I'm afraid that they'll always come after you, even when you stop justly criticizing the unproductive and inefficient trash fire that is angular. I hope that, as the internet matures, satire will be back on the menu, so we can have more content like yours. Beep beep keep on trucking son 😘

This reminds me of the old saying.. "you must be fun at parties" lol
Do an angular video as an apology.
Ben: Is a Developer
Uses twitter in light theme
You're secretly in love with angular js (Insert Freud's face here)
I agree the joke was a bit overdone at this point, but it's still just a joke, if you feel that this is causing division in the community then that's just being overly sensitive.
@Soft Boi I would only be bothered to make the distinction if I was arrogant and resentful.
Guys I really think we are not focusing on the right discussion, he is using twitter light theme
Aside from the joke, I guess Dan really thinks he is a leader of some kind of React Religion. It just hurts when someone in that position is that much ignorant in non-technical issues.
#freeben
Maybe you're just too young to remember when Angular was the standard and a lot of people like you were bashing jQuery.
Twitter is annoying, too many people taking themselves too seriously
Personally I don't like React. Without a design pattern one can write unmaintainable code with large code bases.
There are design patterns in React too such as higher order functions. It's more of a functional programming paradigm

the cool form gif looks hilarious
as smart as Dan is, and im not sure how else to articulate this.
but he's soft as f*** and his tweets are cringe.
it's like nobody is allowed to challenge each other unless its a super formal, perfectly politically correct formatted and signed letter.
he just got very used to being 'the protector of everyones feelings'
and he just make a dis track on angular. love this guy
Dan was tring to say that AngularJS is after all an open-source it's in support for the developer community ,
But on the contrary I understand that you are clearly joking and being sarcastic when you bash AngularJS so it's alright I guess.
if you don't like Angular please don't make jokes about it. It's also used by millions of developers.
No joking allowed!
I worked with angular.js in a long project
Their choice, not mine
After a friendly argue with the head of the project who chose it for the project, we stopped at the point that he said : "it is broken and after some attemp to fix it, the developers gave up and started angular 2!"😌
I tried angular 9 and it is not better.
JS devs take themselves so seriously yikes
That's because it's so accessible. The whole neighbourhood can let themselves in through the cat flap XD
Angular.js was my hero, gave me job/food/gf etc... Still playing around with it thesedays, it is just an old man retired.
5:38 tweet made me burst out laughing lmao
so in the end angular can even make you lose friend
Ben Awad is to Angular.js as Stephan Mischook is to Ruby.
I was just about to learn both react and angular but now I'm wondering if i should just learn react and call it a day.
No-one says a dan thing when engineers based in other languages bash the fuck out of JS.
Ben your a g keep up the content - at the same time one can always progress their humour game, but we are a community of problem solvers not tech evangelists - make your jokes - talk your shit
I have no idea what angular.js is
This reminds me of CNN's most factual news reporting when they have a segment on "What we found on RUclips Six Months After Everyone Else Noticed". You can't talk about a Twitter exchange; it is IMPOSSIBLE to make it interesting
