Learning tunes on the Bagpipe Chanter can be very hard! Especially if you are trying to teach yourself the bagpipes online. Beginner Bagpipers fear NOT! This video gives you the entire tune of Amazing Grace embellishment-free! If you have not yet mastered grace notes, doublings, and D-Throws you can still get playing this classic tune right away. You've got this! Happy piping :) I'll see ya for more lessons in my Beginner Bagpiping 101 Workshop!
My grandad is getting old and I’ve decided to finally learn to play. He’s a seasoned bagpiper having travelled all over the world with his brother playing the pipes. I learned this in an hour. Thanks for really making it simple. The only way I learn is to watch something over and over until I get it. Instructors don’t always give you that courtesy. Thanks
That is very special, Wow! Great job 😀 More beginner videos at my site! www.getbagpipeready.com/
Omg... 23 year police officer, bucket list to play the Pipes. The instructor I have is elderly and that is ok,but she gets upset when I don't catch on, and her getting frustrated makes me frustrated. Your videos are great. You take the time to actually teach. Would love to take private lessons from you, but will just follow you on here. Thank you so much.
Thanks for your comment Danny, and so glad my videos have been helpful! Great you are getting into the pipes after so many years on the force. Lots of great police pipebands out there for sure. Yes, frustration places the brain in a space that opposes integration of new learning! Patience, passion and humor are all helpful tools for getting those fingers wagging at the right times! haha! Hope things get going better with your instructor as time goes on! But, if the frustration continues feel free to check out the details for my online lessons at my site here. Happy piping :) www.getbagpipeready.com/bagpipeservices
Awesome video mate. Our 10 year daughter has just started learning the pipes. I'm 49 and have decided to learn with her. I've been a side drummer in our local PB since the age of 10. Will carry on being a band drummer but want to support my daughter and learn 4 tunes on the pipes for my own enjoyment. You're site here is great. Keep up the good work. From New Zealand.
Thanks so much! What a cool way to share music with your daughter! You can check out more videos at my site. Happy piping :) www.getbagpipeready.com/
I have just started playing my practice chanter after giving up for a few days since my chanter reed seemed to be broken (It would change from sounding like a kazoo to sounding like a flute) and decided to make my own reed, and after making it, i finally tried playing this, and managed to play the first part pretty easily!
You really made it easy to follow the vid!
Glad my video was helpful! Thanks for your comment and I think the fact that you were able to make your own reed is the coolest thing!
I'm a newbie and I won't to thank you for making it so easy and understandable and doable for me your the best tutor yet
You are so welcome! Thanks for the compliment Lolita and taking the time to share your kind words 😀

Always wanted to learn bagpipes and finally started a month ago. Your video is great and has helped no end. What chanter do you use please? I bought a cheapie McCallum with a red reed but the high A sounds different, to yours - not as high!
Wonderful Steve! Don't worry about the high A, if you blow harder it will sharpen the pitch on the high A. I commonly Recommend McCallum practice chanters. That's what I've got both my boys playing. Save your money for a set of pipes 😁
I'm almost 70 and I've decided I'd like to learn t play the bagpipes. Unfortunately my mind isn't as quick as it used to be, so it was almost impossible to follow your video explanation of the fingerings for the notes. Would it be possible for you to put a copy of the notes you used for Amazing grace , so I your viewers can copy or download it and practice without having to use a computer? Royce
Thanks for watching! For more video lessons as well as the sheet music I use, check out my site. Happy piping 😀 workshops.getbagpipeready.com/

Great to hear!
Yes!! Love it!

It's an old RG Hardie from the 1950's, but there are new RG Hardie's that are very nice!

How do i get started? do I buy something off amazon? What is something cheep to get but works good?
Awesome, Excited you are looking into piping!! First step is to buy a decent quality practice chanter. Here is an option if you live in the States: www.thepipershut.com/Practice-Chanters_c_109.html
Henderson's Bagpiping is another great supplier. Happy piping :)
@@GetBagpipeReady Hello, I do live in the states, what one do you recommend below 100$ out of them? This is the first instrument I will ever be playing lol.
@@GetBagpipeReady is there a reed that comes with it, or does it even need a reed?
@@flamingbox8891 Usually a reed comes with the practice chanter, but you can double-check with the supplier. Henderson's and Piper's Hut both have great customer service from what I hear :)
@@flamingbox8891 McCallum, Dunbar, or RG Hardie practice chanters are under $100 and would be great options.
I played amazing grace at my grandfather's funeral last summer
what a meaningful way to share your music George!
I appreciate it my Scottish brother
My pleasure, Nathan!
Are u Irish?
Canadian 😀
Sir why do you cut your beard 😂
oops! I forgot to put it on today!! 🤣
You're teaching very bad habits to new players.
New players need to learn to have patience and all the good stuff will come with time and practice.
And it will be very worth it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts James. I agree with you on the importance of time and practice needed when learning the pipes. In working with many different piping students I find the best way to help being patient around getting consistent practice is keeping it fun! Sometimes, yes, that means dropping some embellishments temporarily, (or permanently, depending on the piper's goals). I've no intention of teaching bad habits... but as I say, "bad piping habits are better than no piping habits!" 🤣
@@GetBagpipeReady I don't agree at all.
If you're not going to do it right then don't do it at all.
This is not a production factory we don't have to make short cuts to produce many pipers very quickly. It's a beautiful traditional instrument that has to be passed on correctly or else its going to turn to shit just like everything else in today's world.
I would rather see someone put the time and energy into something that they can be proud of rather than be lazy and run off annoying people with garbage half ass noise.
And once you have learned the bad way it is very hard to change it.
I know because I know people that have learned that way.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm sure some pipers will agree with you. I think the world will be a happier place if more people are getting into piping 😉
@@GetBagpipeReady I know that all real pipers will agree with me.
I agree to disagree... guess I'm not a real piper 😉 I think the piping community is large enough to accommodate different opinions, various levels of musical abilities, and a wide range of musical expression... while still upholding and respecting the piping tradition.
Where's the bag pipes? I'm a little confused because the video title is learn to play the bag pipes? That's like saying learn how to read a ruler in inches and just rattling off communist measurements
My apologies for the confusion. The first step to leaning any tune on the bagpipes is learning how to play it on the practice chanter. Happy piping! 😀
