    What does he mean "an Americanized version of Godzilla"? Maybe he just couldn't pronounce "Britishized"

    • @PizzaFLIX
      @PizzaFLIX  Год назад +8

      Hi Steve 🍕It's not the setting that I am referring to, but the mindset. Gorgo is all entertainment, in that sense it is an Americanized version of the Japanese Godzilla. The havoc and destruction were initially set to take place in Australia, then Paris, until it was decided on London. The producers (The King Brothers) and the screenwriters (Robert L. Richards and Daniel James) are all American. The monster's awakening is due to a naturally occurring undersea volcanic explosion. The original Godzilla on the other hand is not only set in Japan but is a product of the Atomic Age with a serious message. The film was released just months after the U.S. Castle Bravo nuclear test at Bikini Atoll on March 1, 1954. Godzilla is awakened and empowered by nuclear radiation. The film ends with a warning that if nuclear weapons testing continues, another Godzilla may rise in the future. Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX. May the Sauce be with you 🍕

      Due to Godzilla's size, super-strength, and regenerative abilities, he is invulnerable to most forms of conventional attack. However, Alien Weaponry has been shown to be strong enough to wound him with Gigan's Buzzsaw and claw arm ripping into him, and Mechagodzilla had gunned down Godzilla severely wounding him.

      I loved the Gorgo comics also. The creature first appealed to me via the pages of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine, but I never got to see the movie until it popped up in RUclips.
      The crowd scenes and destruction are well choreographed, though the military sequences look like they were filmed on exercises and wedged in later! Nevertheless, for a low budget flick, it wasn't an insult to the senses.
      The artist for those Gorgo comics, by the way, was none other than Steve Ditko, later famous for Spider-Man and Dr Strange.

    Bill Warren in his excellent KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES has a great essay on the making of GORGO. London was the third choice of cities to be destroyed; one thought was to set the film in Australia, but then the producers realized no one cared if Australia was destroyed. Paris was favored by the Kings because of all the landmarks, but finally London was selected. The cinematography is by three-time Oscar winner Freddie Young, who also worked on LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, RYAN'S DAUGHTER, IVANHOE, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, and LUST FOR LIFE (he was nominated multiple times for his work, 5 times by the Academy, 5 by BAFTA, plus lifetime awards by the American Society of Cinematographers and the British Society of Cinematographers). Director Lourie didn't want to include any scenes of destruction, but the Kings overruled him (and it was their money, after all). Mama Gorgo's path through London doesn't make much sense - she backtracks and seems to wander about, although she apparently knows where her baby is. But great effects for the most part, especially in the last 30 minutes.

    A good sunday B-movie. Not a great one, like Ben Hur or Treasure Island or something like that, but a satisfactory one, like the old Japanese Godzilla movies. In fact, very much like those. In my personal opinion, there was a sad lack of scantily clad women, but it was made up for with the ridiculousness of the two flame thrower guys, both the flame throwing equipment itself but also the helmets the flame thrower guys wore. The ending speech at 01:15:45 while remembering it was all caused entirely by human greed and hubris is worth it all by itself. I enjoyed it all very much, thanks :)

    Thanks for sharing this classic film with us all, I have seen it once before, many years ago and if memory serves me well (older age wise) I remember thinking that greed was the reason for the catastrophe that happened, because of the treasure he ignored the strange and obviously dangerous sea 🌊 churning, the crew (actors) did a great job looking frightened and being sensible about the situation as it developed, good acting and storyline, and I can honestly say that they don’t make em like this anymore, relying on special effects and great acting, not a CGI to be seen, pity Hollywood threw away this genre in favour of computers and top billed actors, actors who are just a face and name to get filmgoers into the cinemas to make money, doesn’t matter if the film is carp just the box office receipts.

      @iandanielcassidy8126 Год назад

      Movies back then were absolutely magical in storytelling and scope. The beautiful scores were final icing on the cake 🎂. There's no magic or inspiration anymore 😢, seems to be all political and personal agendas and corporate profit. I've noticed that most movie scores sound very generic with "NO" hearts or emotions. I really want to bringing the back those types of movies that I grew up with ever since I was toddler and younger ages in 2000s era with more "Absolutely Magical", "Storytelling" and "Scope". Even more "Heart and Emotion". There totally needs to be a time when humans really need to make a "True" animated movie that touched the soul and heart of the viewers of all ages. Somebody hand-drawn and computer animation, it's not just the movies, TV shows as well for all ages on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, and the Walt Disney company needs to take there place in the circle of animations shows and movies for everyone. I hope sometimes in the future, My family would see the newspaper or different articles on the internet of their own cellphones 📱 about I finally got my dream job as "Ian Cassidy save the Walt Disney Company for bringing the 2-D animated style in order pay homage and tribute to past Disney's 2-D animated style movies were made in old glory days". "Ian Cassidy made his promise to have more Magic and/or Inspiration from 2-D animated movies from Disney."Walt Disney Company made an agreement with Ian Cassidy to have Disney's 2-D animated style movies to have music to be more Heart and Emotion with Absolutely Magical, Storytelling and Scope as well". "The Walt Disney Company celebrated Ian Cassidy's birthday party for being our Savior of bringing the old school Disney 2-D animated style movies." I'm thinking Disney stuff never meant always for kids, it's for everyone, mostly adults, back in the day, same with Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, unlike nowadays. Everything is for kids and family. Movies back then taught us about the importance of friendship, loyalty, kindness, compassion, determination, etc. A lot of movies do that, but there are still some good ones. The main ones that are awful to me are intentionally bad just for money, a cash grab. 😒 Cause The old Disney movies were so awesome. I had a little dark things that you don't see now those days in Disney movies. Movies still have an important message, though, but the movies are too sweet. There's a video Looney Tunes that they are soft and not that dangerous silliness we know. Because it's saver for the kids? I mean I can understand kids now those days are misunderstanding and would do anything for likes and views but making the cartoons soft won't change the fact that they grow up to be misunderstood, they become uncaring anyways because of the internet. People became too soft, with real snowflakes. Wow, I really missed the good old days when Cartoons were good. Today, it's a quick cash grab, with the use of effects and big names in the movies. I love the storytelling part, the sending a message to the audience, that's what should be, the soul and heart needs to come back in films and Hollywood became too powerful, meaning they can get away with making bad movies. Back then, movies had individualist them. Today, it's about ideas like social justice and feminism. Those ideas take away from the true hero's journey and make it difficult to identify with the characters. This is the reason so many people nowadays just stick with the older movies, and the ones grew up with them because that's precisely what those kinds of movies did for them. They were heartfelt, funny, for all the ages, full of value, and are consistently good every time you watch them. While one of the purposes was the company to make money, they still wanted to deliver a quality product to the viewers, and it feels like they've lost that. We took for granted 💔 how well animated movies in the 1990s and 2000s were, outside the animation being revolutionary for its time, the writing was also well written that even being 30. I can still watch movies like Ice Age (2002) and actually enjoy them. Yes, and a lot have avoided those powerful, morally complex stories in favor of something safer. Sure, the effects look amazing, but the heart isn't there anymore, The Toy Story series is an exception because all fours are capable of rivaling each other. Who says that Disney movies are just for kids? Adults can watch it as well, They have some life lessons which apply to both kids and adults. For example, what do we learn from The Little Mermaid, from my perspective, that movie learned us that never sell yourself to an evil person, also if the deal is bad, don't take it. What about Cinderella? It taught us that dreams can come true and that no matter with circumstances, they are always good and kind. What about Pocahontas? Love conquer all, and one must find their own way, other movies that have powerful messages, and excellent music. Nowadays, everything must be political ,which is sad and heartbreaking 💔. I definitely want to bring it back for my dream job in the future. Movies today are made to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and make as much money as possible. Back in the day, while profit and marketability were important, producers and directors had more freedom to be creative and make movies that were original, innovative, and memorable. People think it's all nostalgia goggles and being unfair to modern movies, but no. It's all the value and quality of the movies back then, the delivery, lessons, everything all that is gone nowadays. Technology creates the story these days, not the soul of the writer. Like how back in the old good days, we didn't over-analyze anything. We just sat back and enjoyed stuff. 😉 Animated movies are not like what they once were. The effort, the details, and the passion just aren't there anymore in modern animated movies, really sad. Movies nowadays are made by algorithms, not people. Today's cartoons don't have as many good, fun, and exciting masterpieces as the old cartoons. Too political... everything has to have "a message"... and the sense of pure fun is missing. I also find alot of movies nowadays try to be comedy's with over the top cringey dialogue and try way to hard to be funny, Not everybody wants to be laughing throughout the entirety of the movie (Or so they expect us to be laughing).It seriously is heartbreaking to see all that hard work and time people put into a film only for it to be completely thrown out near the end because studio executives lost faith in it. I can't imagine how frustrating that is. We don't want or need a joke every two seconds. Just give us a movie where the serious scenes don't get ruined by an out of place joke. That's not how movies should be made. Technology is supposed to simplify our lives and should not mean taking responsibilities away from us altogether. Box Office movies nowadays wouldn't even hold a candle even to a classic cartoon like This (The Land Before Time) in terms of depth and feel. Those big hits feel like they are just watched because of their name brand, not because of the quality itself at all. Once you watch them, they make you feel like you just wasted your time leading up to it and the huge money of it, too. That's why I feel like a winner when I don't watch the movies of this decade or even the past decade.

    The fun part for me is that 1961 understanding of dinosaurs. Gorgo would have been a Spinosaurus, and that fossil was lost in WWII. If Gorgo was the equivalent of a warm-blooded crocodile, it would have moved lightning fast, and the tail would have been fully extended for speed and maneurvability.

    It’s quite interesting that there’s only two women listed on the credits, actors and crew. One was the script supervisor (read secretary and typist) and one for make-up, and that’s it. This is truly a man’s man film! Even the kid character, almost always a girl in Japanese monster films, is a boy here, without a Dad, but even the prospect of having a Mom isn’t even considered or mentioned. So, dare I say the word, Sexist!!!

      Shut up! The mother monster found little Gorgo, and wreaked havoc to get him back. That's some bad-ass girl power right there ;)

      @@missywink1504 Now wait just one second. Where anywhere was it ever claimed that the big one was either a female or his mother? It could very well have been his DAD or OLDER BROTHER!!! And probably was in the mind of the scriptwriters. I mean to say, only a REAL GUY DINOSAUR could take the abuse that he did. No weak lady could have, after all is said and done.

      A script supervisor is far more than a "secretary and typist". His/her work is essential in the shooting of a film. He/she's one of the closest collaborators of the director.

    Great production values for such a stinker. I love the 50's and 60's sci-fi and horror films. Terrible acting, cheesy special effects- but great films.
