"One of the least studied components of the Jovian campaign was the logistics effort put towards supplying it. This is partly because of the sheer scale of the topic, with supply hubs located across the inner planets, the asteroid belt, and more, but also because it's largely, visibly unglorious. Very few tugs, of the Mudgee Vintage class, actually saw combat and the few that did were, rather swiftly, destroyed. But no less than three thousand ships of this class saw service during the Jovian campaign.
Largely designed for raw material transport, the modularity of the class meant they hauled hydrogen, food stuffs, consumer goods, and all of the industrial goods needed to maintain Battlefleet Jupiter and the Fortress Station. Totaling more than forty thousand tons of dry goods and as much as five times that in fuel alone, these men and women risked their lives to keep the supply lines intact and moving.
So to all the brave sailors of Logistics Corp Jove, we salute you!"

This was actually true for real wars too. Aside from the particularly famous example of America's Ice Cream Ships in WW2. Mind you, only one of them is confirmed to have actually been dedicated to ONLY ice cream. They usually prepared preserved/condensed food materiel to a stage where it could be prepared the rest of the way on ships themselves. These ships were interesting in that they had hulls made of concrete to save on metal, since they were not intended to see combat.

      @shawngillogly6873 2 года назад +49

@Jack Ryan The outer system is scattered and would require the entire fleet to move at the speed of the slowest vessels (Motherships). The AI would still need havens close enough to refuel to maintain operations. Or they'd only be able to hit 1 or 2 targets at a time and return to the outer system. That wouldn't even dent the player's build speed.
Which is why I've called Jupiter Perun's Guadalcanal campaign. If he maintains his Henderson Field (Io Fortress) long enough, the economy of the Inner System will outpace that of the Outer. Especially since the Servants and Protectorate are spent forces.

The mere presence of those two battleships will demoralize any Xenos that finds itself near them. They should be the flag ships of the mightiest battlefleets humanity produces. Looking at how this operation is shaping up, it does feel like the game could do with the option of adding tender vessels: Ships that can help refuel, rearm and, to an extent, repair vessels, perhaps it could exist in the form of auxiliary resupply modules that you could add to them. It'd definitely add an extra facet to combat, particularly if the aliens had access to them too.

I would be content, if the game added the option to give new orders to ships after the won a Battle. I have my RapidStrikeForce2 (3 Superfast Nuketorp Battleships) stuck for a year gliding towords Homea, after intercepting some retreating forces. After the Battle, the assumed the speed and course of the enemy, so the crawl all the way to Homea. They could have make the return leg in only a few weeks.
By the time the actually reach Homea, the war is probably gonna be almost over. By then i will have roughly put 60k worth of Superdreadnaughts into service.
It's not that bad, the are only "Cheap"-class. And their 6 sisterships, meanwhile have nuked any alien groundbases up to jupiter to bits.
I just really hope the game doesn't crash on me again, when i soon engage in full scale battles.
Good thing i don't have any lack of mission control, otherwise i would really hate them taking up 9 MC and doing nothing.

    • @beyondEV
      @beyondEV 2 года назад

That is really well done. i nuked the living "sh*t" out of them, know they boost much better point defense on their vessels. and they're bases and stations are almost only defense structures. ground base has 73k of on paper combat power (actually = 0, they lack point defense, so nukes always level them easily), stations got 5k, but actually much more. they have so many plasma weapons, they chew trough 40 nose armor of my dreadnaughts in no time. but they can't afford those on their ships, and stations without mines and ships are basically just a drag on their economy.

So I sit here in a quiet room, finally relieved that my brethren have arrived from earth in yet more Battlecruisers. The imposing shapes flit past my window as we orbit Jupiter at thousands of KM per hour. if you told me that 30 years after I closed EVE for the last time, as "spreadsheet spaceships" as we called it lost my interest, that I, a 4F recruit, would now be sitting here waiting for some sort of command position, would not only be looking at real spacecraft, but ones that are manned past Luna, and armed to the teeth, I'd have laughed at you. That we would need such things, as humans would be too busy fighting each other on earth to arm deeper solar space, has shown just how little we in all our glorious scientific achievements really knew in 2022.
I got lucky, a slightly maniacal man who called himself "Just A Colonel" was on the same space rehab and medical station in LEO, and we got to playing war games and strategizing about ways to take over the earth, and space if we could. One day he walked in with a few more doctors, and a few "suits" and asked me to look at a guerrilla style battle plan that "I just had to chew on for him"., I asked jokingly if i needed my well worn copy of "Ender's Game" and could I get the evening to look at the war game in my bunk. The "suits" froze and one spoke up saying "No one was to leave the room with knowledge of this plan unless It was in a body bag."
I laughed, god I laughed out loud at that man saying those words, but suddenly guns appeared aimed at me! Doctors brought in a "pheremone detector" to make sure I was "OK", and until the all clear was given, the "suits" never wavered in their aim... Suddenly Mr. Castillo raised an arm in a halting motion, and suggested we go back to his room to chat about the plans.
If God has a sense of irony, he used it now, for while the gravity of Earth is what held me back in serving my country the USA at the time, now the ... USNA? to be honest I can't keep track of the name of the governments now, but now that gravity isn't holding me back physically from serving in space, the sheer gravity of the battleplans I am to craft have left me nearly crushed.
Before I left earth i emailed a few friends and guild/corpmates of various MMORPG's, and while many had no response, one did, and when I told Hans (he told me to drop the rank BS) who it was he grinned broadly and said" yeah I know of that Max guy too, he is really good at pawn removal. He wouldn't explain when I asked further why he wouldn't invite him to play games with us as a group.
I finally got the call, It is time to leave my habroom and start working in real time with the battlefleets. May god have mercy on the alien souls, because I have been thoroughly planning out how not only to deliver them to him, but to keep us all alive....

Silence. Oxymoronic and somewhat disturbing compared to what was happening in the vaccumed ready bay of the drop ship dispatched from an ANZAC class in Vesta orbit. The marines inside were used to the clicks and whirrs of their Coilrifles, used to it from training back on Luna, it was chisled into their minds, so much so that they could just imagine it, and so they did. They imagined the rattling of the tungsten alloy penetrators in their sabots, the metal alloy clanging from the magazine hooking into the catch. Then, as their gloved fingers flicked the power switch, imagined hearing the buzzing whirr of the coils being charged by the liquid battery, it was the sound of twenty five megajoules of energy purposed entirely for xenocide, the "purr" as Colonel Castillo called it.
There was some actual noise, their suits, but it was drowned out, this time by that same training. The sound of their oxygen recyclers working constantly, the climate control buzzing and keeping their bodies cool. Then the electronics whirring and beeping as new information flowed to them from their heads up displays, a pane of transparent golden metal seperating them from the void of space. The exoskeletons on the other hand made no noise, in atmo-warfare, you didn't want them to, but the Marines imagined that they made hydraulic noises and metallic clicks all the same, it helped the nerves. Regardless of those nerves, the comms were still abuzz with whoops and hollers that whatever xenos they met would undoubtedly meet the end of a tungsten slug hitting them at more than a couple kilometers a second.
Then the light went green, and all those noises stopped.
Heavy breathing, pupils dilating, sweating in spite of the climate control, a nervous swallow as they tasted again what they ate not long ago. The sergeant raised three fingers as he held his hand to the side of his helmet, dropped one, dropped two, then all three. The bay door dropped down fast, they were embraced by the white light of the sun which washed away the darkness of the ready bay, as if Sol Invictus themselves were standing infront of them. Then their helmets polarized, darkened, and the cratered barren landscape of Vesta was laid before them, a dark blanket over the entire sky with not a star in sight, and only a few hundred meters away the Hydra base.
Their legs carried them away almost automatically, instinct, get out of the kill zone.
Still complete silence, only rapid breathing. Flashes of green light, plasma, dust kicking up and cascading the rays of the sun. Recoil impulses, tungsten slug after tungsten slug firing, a red tracer following after as sparks exploded off the side of the black exterior of the base. Two life signs in the upper right went red, one after the other, a man or woman returned to ashes, "stop looking at it and shoot!" they imagined Castillo to yell.
Move up, fall into a crater, climb out, grazed by a green ball of glowing excited gas, move and shoot as the Coilrifle pushes them back, a hydra loses their arm and their head, slowly falling to the grey dusty ground as the gravity pulls to their grave. Then the final stretch, ten of them left from the original twelve. Never mind the numbers, as one of them pulls out a compact breaching charge and affixes it to the airlock door they stacked up upon.
For a brief moment sound could be heard again as the oxygen was vented out of the building, a white cloud appearing briefly from the door as if the base were giving it's last exhale. Go in. they couldn't look back or hesitate now, as the Marines filed into the base. Four more life signs went red as rooms were cleared, surprises occured, mistakes made. Green flashes of light met with the sudden impact of a slug to the vital areas they were taught to aim for, three rapid shots at each of it's hearts, and one to the head if that didn't work. Mozambique adopted for Aliens.
The last room, the Sergeant shoots the door open, then the hallway is washed with a blinding green light, and in that literal flash they are torn in half as their still burning ashes flutter in the vaccum along with molten metal. A brick of high explosives is thrown within as a marine clutches onto a detonator.
In the brief flash of explosive light, their eyes are revealed through the polarized transparent metal of the visor.
    They're crying.

Perun, I think if you can choose different formations at the bottom of the deployment screen. When the Melbourne was well ahead of the other 2 ships, you went into that battle with a 'Cloud' formation. I've seen this in other battles with the same exact ship type, it still has one slightly staggered behind the other.
Other battles you've gone into with 'Line' formation and it had every ship neatly stacked together. Something to consider and play around with. The other 3 settings might help more as well.

TF-ANZAC is a brilliant master stroke - you've forced the Xenos to split their forces between 2 competing sectors for a significantly cheaper fleet. That reduces the Jovian reinforcements to a size ripe for interception, buying you more time to build up your fleet. Jupiter is inching closer towards your sphere of influence.

21:20 reminds me of "Rise of an Empire".
In the book they had found similar issues when it came to fighting. Albeit they had changing moments in what was effective.
For example missiles were kind of bad until they developed the Skim Drives which allowed stuff to go into hyperspace even inside of solar systems. Then missiles were suddenly the MVP as the skimmed in ftl really close to the enemy ships and would only then be capable of being shot out of the sky. This worsened by the fact that the skims made massive EMP waves.
Lasers were incredible until the Shimmer Armor was invented whereas the heat would be spread through the entire ships hulls and most of the laser being reflected.
The skim missiles fell off when tech came into play that allowed to destroy missiles within the subspace. Railguns kept being genereally useful. Usually by just shooting hundreds of thousands of rounds to get a couple hits in.

Regarding antimatter for free in Jupiter/Saturn: The base antimatter unit is metric tons. The antimatter in orbits from cosmic rays you can grab with antimatter farms is a different unit - *micrograms* per year. There is a 12 orders of magnitude difference in units and the only notation is buried in a tooltip. It's a stupid trap.

    • @mortisCZ

I like the aliens having all that sunk cost into motherships I saiy keep it that way. you’ll be able to pick the time dand the place for the first fleet battle/mothership engagement there’s no rush you can’t sustain repeated fleet battle yet. Knocking out those inner system bases of theirs I think is the best focus. They lose strategic positioning and waste delta flying in from makemake with lots of advanced warning. Nice run so far!

  • @Alpha_Digamma

I kind of accidently killed a mothership in an earlier run. I got a massive retaliation from the aliens before being remotely ready for it. I had a fleet of 10 L1 escorts with some PD and missiles plus a L2 station with two L2 defense plattforms attached. All of them died, but they put enough missiles into the vacuum to take down the mothership before it reached firing range on the station. It was charging ahead of her fleet for some reason and demolished like half of my ships. The alien fleet then took care of the rest of my ships and the station and actually lost one of their other ships by crashing into the wreckage of one of my ships. The entire battle was rather odd.

It just just create a mutually supporting wall of 2 high ships I ussually use it with 3 ships as all ships can support each other 3 high ships I use this on fleets of 9 or 5 high ship stacks anything above that.
I would try it In the skirmish battle and mess around with it just load your save file of your game.

So the aliens are beginning to adapt to your ships, and you adapt to theirs....an arms race in action!
Also they DO have you massively out gunned on paper, but a lot of that combat power is unable to be brought to bear. How much of it is in those motherships and fleets that are outbound that can't return for another year? Force and firepower is only useful if it can be successfully brought into action, which is where you're gaining the upper hand(almost all of your fleet firepower is engaged, or easily brought into action). It's interesting that they're stringing in ships like they are, instead of forming up and moving units together.

  • @erdalguclu

With the advent of the alien plasma cannon the next-gen of warships might need some more of that dreaded side armor. IIRC the plasma cannon hull mounts do around 9.5 damage, so 10 side armor would make you shrug off the first few shots before armor chipping comes into play, but your going to face away the side anyways so chipping isn't probably a massive consideration there.

The Mothership is a funny vessel. I've managed to destroy it early on on my very first run with 4 basic Monitors. I've player way too agressive, and atracted xeno wrath. At that point their by far most powerful taskforce was a Mothership itself. I've said my praiers to my poor fleet, only for it to come out on top.
What happened was, the Mothership chaised my tiny fleet at full speed, regarding them as no threat. It ended up flying straight into a full missile salvo (with little time for its PD to work), and exploded. It had managed to snipe 2 of my Monitors, but only after they already relseasd most of their volleys.
All 4 Monitors had Riverjack missiles (the smallest but most numerous early missiles), with no point defence. I've figured early designs won't survive anyway, so might as well give them as much of a punch as possibile. The reason I went with those particular missiles, was to overwhelm xeno PD with numbers of missiles.
I don't remember how little resources I've spent, but the Mothership was no more.

I think the problem with missiles vs PD lategame is the way that missiles aren't 'smart'. The way you would try to saturate PD like this would be to dump missiles overboard with low throttle increasing as you fire, calculated to form a coordinated time on target salvo along with the rest of your fleet's missiles. A couple of magazines and trying to stay long range to give more time to deploy missile salvoes could result in just a few ships slamming 100+ missiles on the target as a single barrage.
