Ok, so then HERE’S a question: if “race” drones are so stable, WHY are they so stable? Why can’t these manufacturers produce an assembly-line drone that’s as stable and reliable as some franken-flyer that somebody cobbled-together on their workbench?
I was really into quads for awhile, but like you guys, I grew tired of the crap drones. I wasn’t going to throw money away on DJI products, so the only brand I felt I could rely on was Hubsan. Still have a bunch of them, and they’ve been really good. Then when the Zino had so many gremlins, my interest began to wane. At one point I met a guy who had been building FPV race drones for awhile, but was moving on to other pursuits; so he sold me all of his stuff.
So now I have boxes of all these various parts, but have never done anything with them. Never really had any interest in racing drones. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I guess my question is, if a race drone is as stable as you’re asserting, why should people even bother with production junk? Is it that hard to throw a DIY drone together? I ask that sincerely, I’ve never tried it myself.

Toilet bowling is caused by a compass calibration issue and you need to redo it. Unless the calibration is good you will have the issue.

Hey, so you familiarize yourself with the available options & cross compatibility, a certain comfort level with soldering is really helpful, and aside from learning what's compatible with what, learning what could be compatible with what and how comfortable you are mcguyvering stuff, but ultimately, the beauty of diy race drones, ultimately you decide what you can afford, within that realm, what attributes and characteristics are important to the kind of flying or photographing you want to do, you get the best equivalent in your price point and the really nice thing about you knowing all this stuff and you assembling it, is you don't have to worry about stuff like things being assembled down to a price, things like cheap fasteners, these are your fasteners you put them in yourself you use thread lock and you bought the best ones you could afford, you bought the camera that had the features that you wanted so it's not going to be some cheap factory camera so that they could call it a camera drone. Motors are as fast or tourqy or responsive as you want them to be, this flying camera robot is very much an expression of what you find important for the type of flying you are doing. And assembling yourself forces a level of familiarity that makes troubleshooting far more familiar when you have to do it. A far more sensible process than a machine built by others. Now how do I know so much? I've never built a drone in my life! but I have built electric and gas motorcycles from the ground up and the same holds true for anything you build versus anything you buy already built

I get to spew my accumulated wisdom with abandon, requested or not, and you elder-respectin' whippersnappers are gonna listen or I'll think yer rude, and you're too young and kind and tolerant to yet discern the fact that if I think yer rude, it doesn't matter, you don't like the idea so you listen!

I'm a FAA licensed part 107 pilot...THANK YOU for an honest review and NOT covering up the JUNK that is so often being sold in the drone space. Someone NOT knowing the dangers of that bird could very well cause and incident that gives everyone in the "drone space" a bad name. I would enjoy seeing you review "new" Drones from time to time because I would REALLY like to see someone develop a DJI beater.
I always enjoy your videos and truly honest takes on the products. Looks like you had a beautiful area to fly in...even if the flight(s) was not successful. As I get back into flying fixed wing RC I know I can always count on TheRCSaylors to point me in the right direction. Although after watching this I now need to get out and fly my drone over Thanksgiving (headed to my son's farm in southern Missouri...hopefully the weather will give me a good day or two). And now I also want to try a racing drone. Blessings to you both.

Always great videos. Very sad what you experienced with drones. A couple years ago I bought the Black Friday Promark GPS drome from Wally World ($99) and it has always flown with perfection. I could cut off the controller at any point and it landed within a few feet of take off. I replaced the stock cam with a GoPro clone and mount. My friends are blown away by the video.

I bought my son the Holy Stone HS720 foldable GPS drone with 4K UHD push button adjustable camera. After 9 months of flying it everywhere we love it! Never any issues flying it and it’s so very easy and stable to fly. Just yesterday we flew it in very heavy winds with 30h gusts and had no issues. I got it from Amazon where it’s on sale now for $239. I did a review for the company on Amazon abs they sent me a free battery which by the way lasts about 30 minutes each battery which is insane! I highly recommend you guys doing your own review of it to pass onto everyone who watches cause I know you guys will Love it.

Thank you very much for your kind words. You know, we weren't impressed with DJI's cash grab called the Mavic Mini but they gave away a TON of them to reviewers so there would be an overwhelming amount of positive reviews out there. Small channels are afraid to say anything bad about DJI. It is an okay drone, but definitely better ones out there for your money.

I'm not interested in professional racing drones. I could not find one drone that's similar. For me it was the most fun! Thanks to your review. I did experience the same dropping for no reason only once like you did, but i was anticipating that so I stayed at a safe area. My first drone. Buge 2 was my second. Yep Nice to see a drone here. Too bad about it. This is where I first got most of my drone info, and so far, drones are the only RC I have bought. So I've been watching a lot of ground and plane RC -- but that's not what I have. Notice that I've settled on a mid-priced DJI. Hmmm. No coincidence. I saw one like it on your channel. Tried otheres since. Sold them. Shows how much I Like you guys and mainly just your videos for how you do them, not necessarily what you Film. Truth be told? As a younger guy..(20-30 years ago!) I *did* buy/fly electric foam flying wings, mylar/bulsa ~1.5 meter electric assist glider (did ridge soaring) and Even electric dune buggy stuff. Used most of them with my nephew. Had a blast. So I can draw on that experience and see what is now current! (it's amazing to me. SAFE technology?? Wow). So would I buy more of that again? Well this is Minnesota, so I can't fly the air stuff very comfortably half of the year. I'll just keep watching you Saylors! Thanks!

You guys KNOW I'm gonna say MORE DRONES! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Nate and Abby I personally am tired of all these new drones with cameras, and altitude hold sensors and other dew hickies that take away the fun of flying for me personally! They should at least give us an option to turn off altitude hold, turn off the Wi-Fi (which interfere with control) and just do some old fashion fun manual flying or acro mode even for more skilled flyers! Not a lot of companies even contact me anymore and the ones that do once and a while I turn down expensive stuff. In many cases, that takes away from the fun too! Really wish you guys would have gotten the Traxxas Aton on the channel! It was about 400 bucks when I bought mine but it was worth EVERY PENNY. TIL this day, I still fly it and love it! I never fool around with the GPS though, I fly it manual/sport mode or acro every time! Hoping these bad experiences don't make you guys turn you backs on Drones for good! Anyway, still love watching the channel as long as it's RCs👍🏿

    Hello folks,
long time no see...nice to see you testing quadcopter's again.
i've had a fair few different quadcopter's and a couple of so called advanced "expensive" drone's.
My personal opinion is wifi Tx/rx of those machine's are very difficult to master and are inherently unpredictable even when you follow every setup procedure.
After the dreadful time i had with the DJI mavic air i bought two years ago and the Parrot BeBop i got back in 2015 both of which cost a bundle...i now avoid them like the plague.
My personal favorite Blade qx3 from 2014 which i legally cannot fly any more was fast stable and good fun to fly and i got some really nice footage even by today's standards.
So my new rule of thumb is "One antenna good...Two is bad"
It's good to see you fit and healthy...Stay safe.

My first quad was a Syma x5c, a $25 dollar quad and all the limitations of a $25 dollar quad, but a good solid $25 dollar quad. Then the Yuunec Breeze 4k was discontinued, which initially retailed for $500, brushless, 3s,GPS, good camera, stabilization up to but not including 4k resolution, unstabilized 4k (shaky, but VERY CLEARLY SHAKY!) Walmart, Amazon & some 3rd party resellers had it as low as $99! Was thrilled with my acumen as a savy consumer, landing a $500 quad for only 20% of the initial price! So compared to my only other reference, while the Syma x5c is a good cheap quad, let's just say that Yuneec didn't discontinue the Breeze because it was just too good. The app was buggy and prone to crashes, badly needed updates and promised functionality was barely available from a select few angel whitehats, after all, why would you continue to support a product you've discontinued? I mean, aside from the fact that a lot of people bought them at that $500 price and it's the right thing to do. But, like, why else? They became the professional quad chymiria for DJI, with an impressive array of platform and imaging options for those who like to spend many thousands on really cool, functional powerful reliable robotic aerial imaging, if, you know, reliability and multi-use availability is something you value. But limited hobby and prosumer options. 2 unintentional percussive involuntary rapid decent and even more rapid stops later, I figured I still had some viable organs available in the smashed insectile corpse of my first expensive flying thingy, and got a 2nd, though by now best deal was from WalMart at $150. 'still a tiny percentage of the original $500 price' I reassured myself, and the buggy unpredictability, HAD to be due to my inexperience, this next one will be different.
It WAS different. It was more unpredictable and seemingly far more susceptible to interference than the first. By now I had acquired the controller instead of using my phone and 3D viewing box goggle thingies, which I felt like I had to keep lifting to check it constantly, it drifted hard and while the first one lasted 6 months of frequent use in a week by my third use #2 had smashed into unusability. I gave Breeze 4k a rest for almost a year, then bought another, also for $150, so I had 6 proprietary 3s batteries 3 chargers one complete drone and two drones for parts lots of extra propellers a game style controller and a viewer. A respectable mess o stuff any uninformed and self deciving self proclaimed hobbiest could feel good about provided he didn't think on it too much, after all, for $400 I had 3 $500 drones, plausibly, sort of. 4th of july, the emergency stop function was accidentally depressed 35 feet over cement, seizing all motors and following an impressive shattering I still feel great about, I now had a matching set of 3 unusable cadavers! I sold everything I had for $60 claiming it was possible someone who really knew what they were doing might be able to make one functional quad out of the three rotting zombies but I didn't know for sure, and I said as much, however, just the batteries; that was a steal! they would sell for $45 a piece. 6 for $60 + everything else! Then I got a very large though badly underpowered brushed bad cheap drone for 50$ who got carried away in strong wind, never to be seen again, hellgrammites breed and nest in its bowels. Good riddance! I thought I should have a chase quad to film my airplanes but the problem with that logic is I'm a solo pilot: I can't fly a drone & plane at the same time! and I don't know anyone else who can do either one, so I don't need a quad and I don't want one. But eventually I'll feel differently, & when I do, I'll decide how much I can spend and Nate & Abby Saylor will have an old video to steer me right!

Hi guys love your channel especially your plane flights and reviews - always honest and true. I remember watching your drone reviews and how all the bad ones put you off from reviewing them again. I would love to see more, 1 for the experiences you have with them and 2 the quality of the drone. Which not only helps people decide what to buy but also to see the 'fake" drones out there! I would definitely love to see more FPV drone flying and even making your plane flights FPV if you could. Keep up the great and good work. Best wishes George.

Thanks for this review. You are absolutely correct in your statements. And I appreciate your honesty. It’s Christmas time and was thinking about trying another drone as a gift. I have purchased a lot of drones and some have even crashed on their first flight. Non of these have been cheap. Keep up your honest reviews.

I'd like to see more drones but also the thing that matters most to me is the distance that a drone can go and still be able to control it so please mention that in your reviews

While we appreciate the distance that a drone can fly, we highly recommend that you maintain LoS over the drone. If you want to be safe, it is smart to never break Line of Sight. We will test range some though. Happy Flying! 👍😎⚓

So glad to see you and Abby doing drone videos again. I really appreciate your honest reviews and I am sure you have helped many who have come to depend on you both before making a purchase decision. Drones are a great entry level device into Flying R/C and can be done in a relatively smaller space for those who may be limited in that way. I think you both provide a tremendous service to all involved or at least interested in the hobby.

Happy to see drones again! Agree that this one’s crap... multiple close-range control cut-outs, choppy video, and I’m no fan of the Phantom-style coffee table drone profile. Thanks!

Welcome to you both of you, back to the drone scene. I know where you are coming from. I am no lover of Potensic drones and would never buy one. This drone looks a little like the XK X1 (WLtoys) but the XK1 is a lot better in every aspect and was only £160GBP with 2 batteries. A great looking drone on the market at the moment is the SJRC F11 4K Pro 5GSJRC F11 4K Pro 5G whick is priced roughly at £200GBP with 3 batteries. I would also be interested in your thoughts on the 'SJRC F11 4K Pro 5G' as it has 2 axis gimbals, EIS coupled with a true 4K camera, a bag and a 26 minute flight time.. Sounds a lot better that this Potensic Dreamer :)

Yes! I love drones and fly them as part of my job. I miss your guy's drone review videos a lot and learned so much from you! Please don't let the cheap "bad drones" of the past destroy your love for the many quality drones out there. What about the DJI Air 2, Skydio, and Mini 2 for example? I understand you don't want to do negative reviews of cheap, crappy drones. But, maybe you can focus on the "good ones" to still enjoy the hobby?

Even when you have to give a negative review of a drone--I appreciate your honesty and know I can trust your informed opinions. And, it's perfectly fine to point out both the "pros" and the "cons" that every given drone has. For instance, I didn't know that some drones would "toilet bowl" until watching your past reviews. I fly a DJI Matrice 600 Pro for commercial mapping as part of my job and have my Part 107 certification. Yet, I learn tons of useful tips from watching your videos about how RC aircraft work. And, even watching Popeye chase little drones makes my day! That's a great way to exercise your dog without a exerting oneself. Ha, ha! Love you guys and God bless
