My mum has the same issues that your mother had. I'm almost 40 and just now trying to find balance and peace with my mum. It's not easy at all. She used to be on meds and was fine, but for some reason, she felt like they didn't work, so despite her doctor telling her not to go off of them, she did. Hopefully, one day, we'll have a good relationship, but right now, it's not happening.

So it's not NA at all. But she does mention that it's meant to empower people regardless of their skin color. So anyone can connect with its message regardless of the songs true origins.
