He is my favorite professor on MIT OCW!!! I work long hours and I just listen to his playlist lectures. I hope to see more of his video lecture on youtube. Thank you, Dr. Grossman and MIT!!!
Loving this! Missed out on Chemistry at school. Went on to study electronics but always felt I had a hole in my understanding when materials and semiconductors came up. Just found this series and it's great. Teaching quality has improved immensely since my day, and there was no Internet either. We studied the few books we could afford, did all the labs and talked a lot.
Saya bangga dengan channel ini. Ini sebuah edukasi bagi saya yg lulusan pelajar saja tanpa mengikuti jenjang pendidikan lanjut. Terima kasih atas pemaparan yg baik ini

Wow, he seems like a fun professor...I like how he’s lighting candles and not afraid of burning down the classroom with fires that he created...the example of combustion by lighting up bubbles is so fun and interesting to watch
Plato was a realist (a dualism of idealism and materialism), he thought physical things got their reality from participating in the idealized forms of essences, not physical substances like thales (everything is water) or Aristotle. so a table is a table bc it participates in things hardness, woodness, and tableness. physical things are in the relm of sensible things which can deceive and forms are perfections that are grasped by the intellect. i invite everyone to read actual plato directly as to the history of development of ideas rather then the clifnotes section in a local barnes and nobles.
The law of conservation of mass should technically be the law of conservation of mass-energy. For instance in the combustion of paraffin, the radiant Energy released will cause the mass of the products (CO2 and H20) to be slightly less than the mass of paraffin. However this change is very small that it is often neglected.
It'll be a regret of mine not be more careful growing up to know there exist MIT where I could flourish working hard as an Aspiring Material Scientist with Semiconductor Tech Designer dual programme to really land my dream career solving problems for faster CPU cause it's really tough to see people can't afford high priced tech maybe not in my lifetime as :') Hope God gives me more than what Je thought off to be not good enough for me
The first lecture is almost always skippable. Its like, send an email out with the admin stuff. Thank god for recordings, skip the entre and go right through to the main course.
Every lecture you will hear Professor Grossman say, at least one time, "Gesundheit" It should be a contest to estimate the number of moles of gesundheit there are in a semester of lectures. 😂
Basic elements of Nature(5), I don't think was first thought by Plato. Hinduism has its elaborated mentioned in its scriptures by the name of Panchmahabhutas, much before than Plato.

It doesn't look like it. The materials we do have (readings, assignments, exams, online textbook) are on MIT OpenCourseWare at: ocw.mit.edu/3-091F18. Best wishes on your studies!
Is Chinese, Indians, Persian etc oldest civilization not contributed to Chemistry ?? Lot of process, methodologies, intellectual outcomes copied, repackaged by western academic community. Hope those historical individual get their respect and credit's atleast.

Wow, I wish that my professors were even remotely this motivating. He's so passionate, and it's amazing. Thanks Dr. Grossman!
I haven't taken a college chemistry class in over 30 years - this professor is amazing.
Here It comes, MIT OCW to the rescue.

On the slide it should say propane C3H8 as well as in the equation 22:40. H4H10 is butane...
I feel smart for pointing this out.
You mean C4H10. You have written H4H10.
@@billybhoy32 i feel smart for pointing this out
He corrects this at 27:00
Thank you from Egypt, MIT ❤
انا من مصر بردو، بتستفاد من الشرح؟ و هل هو محتاجة خلفية سابقة عن الكيميا ولا ايه؟

11:42 best part. "... transition from knowing how to answer any question to knowing which question to ask."
Thanks Professor Grossman and MIT for this course!!
Thanks for the free lecture.
Love the way of teaching, he is charming.

Kind of reminds me of Sheldon's physics lecture for Penny.

Absolutely well done and definitely keep it up!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
he is perfect teacher
That's is a great professor.
Yes, but I think Sadoway was better.

Great opening lecture! Dang I wanna take this class now!
MITopencourseware saving millions of lives.
Around 9:00 this is good. 10:36 we’re all-into it.
We use nickel to make nickel coins for US currency but we also use nickel to make stainless steel and Russia is actually a very big producer of nickel
No disrespect to Prof. Grossman, but Prof. Don Sadoway remains unbeatable.

Not a major issue but C4H10 is Butane, not Propane.
Wish mit a very happy new year 2021
Thanks! To you as well!
22:40 Really MIT propane is C4H10 ?!?
Thank you!
Thanks
WHY did we not have lecturers (professors in the USA) when I was at Uni in the 70's? (Well, we had 2, but that was it!)
Should I watch this ? Cuz I'm just 16 and I'm just interested in phys so
why not
Great video. I learned tons!
