I agree so much with your frustration with calculation groups. We need to have more control over what we want to show even though it's a calculation group

This is the best calculation group video out there. I am not 100% sold on them yet either, but I'm glad I know how to set them up now. Thanks Ruth :)

Being able to use the measures separate from the group would make all the difference in the world . Fingers crossed they will enable that!

100% on point for this...hopefully they'll update it. It's a low of slow steps forward with MS and PBI.

I believe now you have to create a new calculation group for every measure separately. I mean one group for LY measures, another one for YTD, for example. It seems like a ton of work but if you have tons of measures, it still saves plenty of time and space not needing to calculate LY measures separately. Great input, Ruth!

You are right, you can do that too. Specially now that is available natively in power bi. Might give it a try and see how messy it gets!

Thank you for this video and your other videos, you have helped me immensely! You set up your videos in such a way that they are easy to follow and relate to my own challenges.

Totally agree we need to use calculation group individually 😊

Gracias ... Tienes razón, no siempre se requieren TODAS las medias en la visualización. Muy buen comentario
Thanks... You're right, ALL stockings are not always required in the visualization. Very good

This is really true because many times we have to manipulate many calculations and specially in finance report you have to calculate each row by different context it becomes really difficult to maintain the order and you just can not relly on calculation group and many times field parameters are also not greathelp..

Hopefully they will do something about it!

I feel the same way, Ruth 👍. Always I meet the situations where I need to develop further or make variations of existing measures when it comes to visualizations. Wish we can take those 'bundled measures' separately as you said.

I agree with you. I don't like that they force use of all items in the calculation group.

Interesting! another problem using Calculation Groups (not sure if is related with my DAX knowledge), is about conditional formatting, when the output element is related with a subtraction, addition or even divide, instead of the simple SELECTEDMEASURE() is not possible to add it.

can we use Qty, lets say more than 10,000 (Time 5:12) with the above calculation group on the visual, Seems like it disables the calculated measure filter.

Great,BTW i didn't get using calculations groups individually part.

So instead of using them all at once , you can use them individually

    • @paulrockliffe2378

The trick to using them individually is to use filters. A single select slicer or the visual level filters, hidden or unhidden depending on whether you're aiming to give the user flexibility. It's not ideal, it does better in the visual build pane but it works really well.,

Thanks Ruth. I don't entirely understand the "use them individually" part. In the example couldn't you add the calc group to the table's visual filters section and then check only calc item PY there?

    • @CurbalEN
      @CurbalEN  Год назад

I want to create them in group and use them individually like any other measure. I dont want them to be managed together. One simple thing can be the order. It will change depending on what you are doing.
