    Hardy in 5a! Another addition to my nursery stock. I will find a friend and ask for a cane or two, give them a new plant in return next spring! Then it's off to the races🎉

    It's nearly impossible to fail propagating any type of Willow. I took cuttings of a corkscrew willow from a friend's house, took them home leaned them against the house, two days later they had rooted.

      Exactly why I offer them... nearly foolproof propagation success!

    Would these root indoors over the winter or do they need the freeze to do so correctly? In chicago

      They need chill hours, but you can put them in a ziplock bag with a little sprinkle of water and store them in your crisper in your fridge til spring and they will root out and grow just fine. I stored all my dappled willow cuttings like that last winter.

      As RCCRAYZ says here... this is a good way.

    That was a great and easy idea I was wondering if you can do that with Crape Myrtles and possibly other bushes too. I’m a landscaper on my job and would like to connect with you to get more ideas?

    What season is planting the cuttings done in?

    • @savvydirtfarmer
      @savvydirtfarmer  Год назад

      I stick cuttings late Spring through summer, then again in late winter. Depends on the plant and how much plant material I have.

    This is my first time propagating both in water and soil about six weeks ago. They are doing well with new roots and sprouts. How long before they can go in the ground. I live in zone 4.

    • @savvydirtfarmer
      @savvydirtfarmer  6 месяцев назад

      Take is SLOW and EASY. Let those roots get big and thick before you try to transition them to anything different.

    What is the spacing of these to create a semi-privacy hedge/accent fence without overcrowding? Thank you

    How do I keep my plants over winter that I just propagated abut six weeks ago? I am in zone 4

    • @savvydirtfarmer
      @savvydirtfarmer  6 месяцев назад

      Long way til winter. Let them grow and get as big and heavily rooted as possible. Come winter, let them go dormant (freeze). If the plants are hardy in your zone, they don't need much care at all. But if I were you, I would cover them in plastic for most of the winter to give them the best chance of high success rates next Spring.

    I recently bought a dappled willow on clearance. This is the first perennial I did not research prior to purchasing. I’ve been reading up on them trying to figure out where in my yard to plant it. I am getting mixed information about the roots being invasive. Do you have any information or resources to clarify? I’d like to plant it 10-15 ft away from my house. And I’d also love to form a hedge at the bottom of our property eventually. My concern is water lines, septic, sewage, etc. Do they have invasive/aggressive root systems?

    • @savvydirtfarmer
      @savvydirtfarmer  Год назад +2

      Not sure. I had two of them planted right next to my house and never had any issues.
