Mamamoo as a whole represents "Unconventional" in Korea. Agreed. RBW was a start-up company. Mamamoo carried the entire weight of RBW on their backs. The did busking in the streets, they did multiple shows per day for weeks on end without breaks, they did EVERYTHING to build their group into a great well-oiled machine and build the company around them. Nobody has worked harder in the industry.

I just can't get on board with the idea that these women aren't visually appealing. It shouldn't be as important as it is, but even still they're just stunning. Their talent and attitudes set them apart from other groups, but the idea that they aren't visually appealing is just ludicrous. We're glad it seems that people reacting to this video agree
@@alongfortheridereacts A lot of it just Korean beauty standards. And a stricter standard for K-pop stars. Taller, willowy, fair skinned to name a couple. There's also this thing about "v-line" faces that I don't understand. Companies can be pretty brutal about it all.
Ignore the robot voice - you're saying Wheein correctly. Purple Hawke didn't mention it but the scene where Wheein welcomes Hwasa as her first line of support was at the MV shoot for her solo debut song Easy. Wheein is standing next to a coffee truck sent by Solar, which illustrates Solar's mom-style leadership and how she cares for each member individually. Solar almost always goes to visit Moonbyul on the set of her solo MV shoots and brings food (they're best friends and similar in age) but with the younger members Solar sends a coffee truck with a message of support. I think she stays out of their way so the kids don't feel like mom is looking over their shoulder while they're doing their thing. Welcome to the culture clash if the criticism of Hwasa is your intro to the extreme Korean and even more extreme kpop beauty standards. Mamamoo has never fit in with the kpop's standards regarding beauty, fashion, gender, sexuality or polite behavior by proper female idols and consequently they've always been one of kpop's biggest shit magnets. Tho they clearly have no use for social norms or artificially imposed standards and speak their minds on social issues other idols avoid (such as their long-time lgbtq+ support) they're happy go lucky iconoclasts. As you can tell they don't cultivate a bad girl image and instead use their platform to convey empowering messages of self-love and acceptance of others for their individuality and uniqueness. Hwasa wasn't the only member to have trouble passing her auditions with kpop agencies. It's very possible that none of the members would have debuted if RBW's co-CEO hadn't had the novel idea of assembling a girl group based on their talent and creativity and promoting them as artists rather than the usual formula of selecting girls based on how their looks & skills fit into a pre-conceived marketing concept such as cute, innocent, sexy or girl crush. You know that Hwasa was rejected based solely on her appearance. Moonbyul & Wheein signed with RBW after failing to debut at another company. Solar failed about 50 auditions because being over 20 she was thought to be too old and it makes kpop standards seem all the more ridiculous when you hear a clip of Solar nailing her audition piece for RBW, Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You. Though I and most moomoos have very mixed feelings about how RBW has handled Mamamoo and their career we all thank RBW's Kim Dohoon for plucking the members from the trash heap of other companies' rejects and retreads. At a pre-debut showcase all the industry pros told RBW that Mamamoo would fail and they were crazy to make them the first group to debut under their new startup agency. RBW didn't pass that pessimistic prediction on to the members but they did let them know that since they were neither cute and girly like other female idols nor tall and lean like fashion models they were going to have to rely on their singing and performances if they were going to be successful. Their success despite starting from less than zero with the odds stacked against them is an inspiring story and they've become role models for young women and young idols. I think their success has helped to loosen kpop's beauty standards and their participation in all creative aspects of their career has helped expand opportunities for the subsequent generations of female idols to be actively involved as creators, not just performers. Looking forward to whatever route you choose to take through the radish field! I'm sure moomoos will give you lots of suggestions but imo it doesn't matter what you pick. Everyone has their preferences but Mamamoo really doesn't have a bad song. 😂
The robot voice is saying it correctly. If you say Wheein in Korea, no one will know who you're talking about because that would be spelled 위인. Her name is 휘인 which starts with an H sound. So you can pronounce it as Whee-in but add a breathy H before you say it. If you break it down slowly, it's who-ee-in. Then say that in almost one syllable (almost completely dropping the oo sound in who and just keeping the "wh" and you have the correct pronunciation of her name and also the reason why it's spelled that way.
Yes!! You make such an important point (well, many important points, but...) they aren't 'Bad Girls' or trying to cultivate any sort of rebellious image. They are themselves. And for that reason, they're incredible role models. They don't bow to the criticism, but it seems like they don't ignore it either and are happy to face their critics head on, as themselves! Arrrggghhhhh!!! I love this group!!!!!!!!
Wheein and Hwasa’s friendship is the best that I envy. Please continue supporting mamamoo. 🤍If you want to react more, they have also many amazing award performance stages and fan meeting stages.
I'm so invested to your MAMAMOO reactions videos. And it's not a problem if you can't pick a favorite member because you'll just love all of them. For me, it depends upon who's making a comeback. 🤣
Thank you so much!! We're so desperately in love with the group! We're almost regretting Mamamoo Mondays because we want to do more than one a week. I think we'll find a way :-)
I'm going to enjoy following your Mamamoo journey. These women are four superstars, collectively as Mamamoo and individually as each member has their own very successful solo career. Looking forward to many more of your reactions to MMM.
Wheein is 휘인 (hwi-in); the video actually did a pretty good job with the pronunciation, despite what the other commenters tell you. It is _not_ misreading it. Many "robovoices" ignore Korean and mispronounce it as if it were English (an extreme example: pronouncing Ryujin as "rye-woo-jin" 😠); Purple Hawke obviously took pains to make it pronounce 휘인 as 휘인. You can hear the correct pronunciation of the first syllable of her name very clearly at 6:47, when they nickname her 휘파고 ("hwipago", Whee-phaGo). To try to explain in words, the correct pronunciation of those initial consonants in Korean is a bit similar to the old pronunciation of "what" (it was even spelled as "hwæt" at some point in the history of English). If you can read IPA, it is ['hɥi in] ("hwee-in", ish), or alternately, ['hy in] ("hee-in"). I don't think there is anywhere in Korea where the that leading [h] in her name is left unpronounced. Of course, since most fans do not speak Korean, and given the romanisation she chose, the pronunciation you guys adopted, ['wi in], is widely accepted as well, though it is not how a Korean would say it. One could say that ['wi in] might be her English stage name, just like Solar is Solar's (which is actually 솔라 "Solla" in Korean, consisting of two solfeggio notes, "sol" and "la"). I don't expect you to pronounce Solar as ['sʰolla], and I don't expect you to pronounce Wheein as ['hɥi in]... but you did ask. :)
I did ask and I really appreciate the answer! Thank you so much for taking the time to give us the phonetic spellings and explain how to pronounce the names correctly. We will do our best :-)
so glad you guys are checking out mamamoo, you’ll definitely fall in love with them more as you watch them. I recommend their solo stuff (i saw you did wheein recent album) with Moonbyul i can’t suggest this cover enough for first time listeners “trying to say goodbye” then wheein “with my tears” and “let’s breakup/goodbye” Hwasa “LMM” and “Maria” Solar “Honey” and “Zingle Zingle”. Even these dont cover half of what other content they have out there for you to indulge. Im subscribing just to keep up with your journey of Mamamoo ❤️❤️
Why must there be a million amazing recommendations for this group! We love them so much that we want to consume EVERYTHING about them!!! You can expect a LOT of Mamamoo on this channel
I mean, mamamoo has quite a few stages of their 1cm performances, so if you wanted to go a few weeks just watching diss tracks instead of MVs you probably could XD and i mean, elaborate projects. they have their standard chaotic music show stages of 1cm, but they've also remixed it into a couple different genres, done long hype sessions to lead into it at concerts, and eventually started building LORE for it??? several of their concerts have different 1cm stages with animated VCRs beforehand telling of their story, then elaborate skits with things ranging from wild costumes to actual stunts?!? so yes def check out some music but just know those stages are out there when you need a good laugh again lmaoo
@@alongfortheridereacts oh I happily will XD def should probably explore some other stuff first but I have planted the seed cuz some of those stages are INSANE and they're always hilarious 🤣 I brought a few friends that are casual mamamoo fans at most to their concert this year, and they were all so confused during the 1cm segment (it must've been like 10 or 15 minutes sdkjsk) but still had a great time because mamamoo is just too good at making you laugh 🤣🤣
The Korean woman I order albums through pronounces it Hweein. The first time we saw Hwasa's name Romanized was on their first pre-debut MV and they spelled it Wassa. In Hangul, both names start with the same character.
Hwasa is my female ult. But seriously…any of the girls could be the mains in any group. And they vie for bias wreckers constantly. Enjoy your ride. They have the best discography for any female group in Korea.
You're right. In any other group, they're absolutely all mains. They're unbelievably talented. My love for Hwasa went up 1,000,000% after this video... My bias is currently fully wrecked!
Me encanta sus reacciones. Un dato sobre Solar: hizo mas de 50 audiciones pero en ninguna la querian porque la consideraban "vieja" con 18 años y "fea" para debutar en un grupo.
As for NON-MV stuff, how about their Singing In The Car videos? There are only a couple of those videos but they are SO GOOD! You get to hear them without any kind of special electronic effects on their voices at all, most of it is a capella. The videos were captured by fans who watched some of the group's Live stuff while they got bored when traveling a long distance (fairly early in their career, before the tiny company could afford to fly them places). Since they are fan videos, they are not on Mamamoo's channel or on RBW, they will have other names (if those videos can even be found anymore, I don't know).
Not sure if this is the same video but there is also a video on their Mamamoo channel called "How Mamamoo play in the car" which is a clip of them singing on their way home from a gig. Havent seen reactions to that in a bit but it is a good clip too 🥰
@@lishakeyz5920 I guess that video could be one of those I was talking about. It has been a long time since I watched one so remembering which channel it was on is difficult because they are also on other channels.
Where are we now by Mamamoo is one of my favourites. You should watch Queendom which is a competition show between 6 female K-pop groups and Mamamoo are one of them. Also their Killing Voice performance will give you a sampling of their songs and it’s really good. They are really the only female group I watch. ❤
18:44 in korea it is VERY unconventional! she’s considered fat and too dark and ugly. korean beauty standards are very strict and.. questionable i’d say. their image of a beautiful woman is : pale skin, being extremely skinny (underweight), and having an “innocent charm” so hwasa really became a symbol of perseverance for women considered “unattractive” in korea
Right. Almost anywhere else in the whole world, she would be considered as an 'Exotic Beauty'. Korea is so FFFF'd up in their INSANELY TIGHT little tiny pigeon-hole they call the 'STANDARD' of beauty. Nobody can stay in it forever, it's just impossible. That rules out at least 90% of their own population. It's all public brainwashing, engineered by the wealthy wrinkly crotchety nasty old men at the top of the industry, molded to fit their fetishes.
I'm still learning about Korean beauty standards and I understand that they're very strict but... did anyone who said these things about Hwasa actually... you know... LOOK at her? Aside from her talent, contribution to the industry, role-modelling, attitudes, etc... she's stunning in our eyes. We simply cannot get our heads round it
Oh, I forgot to explain Purple Hawke's statement that unlike the typical idol image Hwasa is "unconventionally thikk, tan, and proud of it." As I'm sure you know, most female idols are rail thin and I'm also sure you don't need me to explain the physical and mental health issues that accompany extreme dieting by teenaged girls. Hwasa's skin tone is darker than most Koreans. The standard of feminine beauty in Korea includes a thin body and extremely white skin, ideally as light as a white ceramic doll. Btw, it was amusing to see the slogan "I love my body" pop up on the screen at that time. The guide vid is about 4 years old and I Love My Body is the title of Hwasa's recent solo song. And finally, the last line in the guide is the members telling Hwasa "I'll never let you go!" Never Letting Go is the fandom motto. It's also the Korean title of Mamamoo's first fan song, which was mostly written by Solar with Moonbyul & Hwasa contributing rap verses. When you get to know them and their music a little better watch the live MV for Never Letting Go, aka I Love Too in English, and bring tissues.
That's incredible. I love that they've been able to turn the criticism they've received into such amazing songs. I wish they didn't have to, but I love how empowering it is to just throw it all back in the face of the critics
mamamoo is the only group where i can see none of the members in any other occupation. given how talented they are, i'm sure they _could_ take up other jobs, but all four of these women were BORN to be singers and performers! you can see it in the way each of their live performances just radiate passion and energy, and how each of them gives their all in everything they do. and yes, the korean beauty standards are just impossible. so many idols have admitted to having their mental health absolutely broken down by the expectations placed on them, having to starve themselves to fit the cookie cutter standard of an idol. so it's really refreshing to see mamamoo say "nah fuck that" and proudly be themselves. all of the members were shamed for being "ugly" at some point, especially hwasa. but they refused to give into the pressure and instead created their own trademark. not just with beauty standards either, but with everything they do. moonbyul is unapologetically androgynous and is also often referred to as "conservative moon" because of how she doesn't like to show skin that much. she prefers gender neutral and loose fitting clothes, and says that she can be sexy even without showing skin. solar was considered "old" when she debuted (she was only in her 20s but kpop prefers to debut literal children) but she went on to become an incredibly influential idol. all of these women are so authentic and so unabashedly themselves, and it's such a breath of fresh air in an industry where visuals are valued more than skill, and idols are usually just products for the public. i recommend you check out their song 'Yes I Am', it's a lighthearted pop song but it talks about how they break stereotypes and love themselves as they are.
There is a video where the girls are on stage and reporters are asking questions. They start asking Hwasa all these things regarding her much talked about and critized outfit and basically if she wore it to start a controversy. You can see at first Wheein smiling but slowly it goes away. I'd run if I caused Wheein to frown lol. Especially if it was because I was talking about her best friend. At 2:45 mark, you also see Solar looking more and more upset with the line of questioning by the male reporter. Then you see her lean towards Moonbyul and whisper something. Solar may be crazy and silly at times but she can quickly snap into leader/mother mode. She knows who is better suited to answer certain things so she asks Moonbyul to answer. Link below. I was also surprised like y'all were about the hate Hwasa use to, and still, gets. I realize it's different beauty standards but still... all Mamamoo members are gorgeous and talented. To hear that Hwasa got hate when they debut was sad and heartbreaking considering she was 19. Anyways, more reactions please and remember to watch on the official Mamamoo channel for subtitles. ruclips.net/video/83fNFnvBhSA/видео.htmlfeature=shared
I'm surprised they are able to handle those kinds of questions with any kind of grace at all! We're still STUNNED at the criticism of Hwasa... it makes NO sense to us.
@@alongfortheridereacts Just think about Hwasa's empowering speech. The incident she talked about happened on a day when she was still in training, so she could have still literally been a kid when this adult said those nasty things to her. Maybe she actually was a little heavy back then but hearing it as a criticism from an adult is serious to anybody who is sensitive, whether it is true or not. But it's not the 'fat' part that would bother anybody trying to get into the Entertainment industry because 90% of the time that can be handled and dealt with and fixed (like Hwasa obviously has, since being a Dancer means being an athlete). It's really the 'not pretty' part that could really hurt somebody very deeply. Don't EVER say that to any kid! Holy crap! They can grow up into some stunning adults! Mariah Carey was called 'ugly' as a child. So was Julia Roberts. Having that trainer call her BOTH...damn, I really hope somebody has since been fired...
@@jamescurfman3284I completely agree with both comments. Whatever companies rejected these 4 very talented women because of weight, age, height, or looks must be kicking themselves. When you, "judge a book by its cover," you do yourself a disservice because you could be missing out on something unique and special. The only good thing that came out of those rejections is that they were all able to be signed by RBW as a group. Individually, Mamamoo members are amazing, and when they come together as a group, they are out of this world. Hwasa's speech always makes me choke up no matter how many times I hear or watch it.
@@Ming3484 100%. I have watched these videos and I have seen several reactors watch these. I still get some tears when I see people react to that section of Part 2. its funny when you think that labels back in the day said that hwasa was to full figured for the kpop scene... this group n hwasa has beaten the steriotypical odds of the music scene at the time...
Wheein's name in Hangul is written ho-ween, but for whatever reason they romanized it Wheein so we all pronounce the Wh speaking English and it's fine. Careful, every Moomoo knows once you Wheein you can't Whee out. Mamamoo had their breakout during their 4 seasons project so checking out those 4 songs is a great place to start. I like to introduce people to them with the contrast between Starry Night and Egotistic, two of the title tracks from 4 Seasons.
@@yennyyyseo18 When it's not romanized as a W her name in Korean writing starts with the consonant that makes the H sound then the vowels that make Oh and EE sounds. You can hear it in the videos when they talk to her in Korean.

4:00 _Technically,_ her name is properly pronounced "Hwee-in" (휘인), but the H-sound is largely disregarded, especially given that her stage name is spelled with the W first. But yeah, the electro-voice is just guessing wrongly. 5:20 She _is_ kind of a skill sponge. If she feels like learning something new, she pretty much just _does._ 5:35 I've got a vague recollection she _may_ have done a tattoo at some point, but I may also be completely misremembering, and I'm pretty sure that's one skill she hasn't acquired yet. Give her a minute, though... 9:05 "I'm the modest one." 😜 15:35 All the time _when she's performing._ I think of Hwasa and Hyejin as kinda like Superman and Clark Kent; two very different personas each occupying its own name, though in Hwasa's case, both are very much the real her. Hwasa is that "queen energy" you're talking about; that ferocious, sexy, no-nonsense badass you see on stage. Hyejin is the adorable, shy homebody who'd much rather be curled up in bed... 19:00 Certainly at the time they were debuting (and still today I guess, but I think it's got more flexible nowadays), the trend was toward slim girls with fair skin; Hyejin was curvy and had a naturally darker complexion. 23:40 She knows you can't please all the people all of the time... but you _can_ please _yourself._
thanks for the reaction, first of all. Wheein is pronounced with Hwi, not We. ㅎ = H (휘인). It would be spelled with ㅇ instead of ㅎ (위인), if it was pronounced we-in. As it is, it is spelled and pronounced as Hwi-in
Korean Netizens are insane, I remember there was this kpop idol who was critized also for not wearing bra but sadly and tradically, she took her own life. She couldnt bear the bashing and bullying she got from the internet.
Wheein is the ace of Mamamoo. Their CEO literally formed the group around Wheein, calling her the "backbone" of Mamamoo because she's both the best technical singer and dancer of the group. Even Solar said she's afraid of singing Wheein's songs because Wheein has such a huge range. I highly HIGHLY recommend watching Wheein's live performance of Anymore - it's probably the most jaw-dropping Wheein performance to date. :)
They really struggling at the beginning. You can check on their 2022 guides. Like you said the Korean beauty standards are insane. And toxic Knetz told solar is too old for debuting, moonbyul is too fat, hwasa is fat thick and tanned ( more darker than girls group members usually). They labeled as ugly and old GG. They don't appreciate their talent at all. In 2019 MMA awards, mamamoo got mistreated by the staff. In the red carpet when the rookies have an interview, there's no one asking mamamoo so they just got photoshoot and leave. The rookies group have more time to perform it's more than 12 or 13 minutes, but they speed up mamamoo songs and have to perform under 10 minutes and it contains hwasa solo and mamamoo songs. But yeah mamamoo doing mamamoo. When they have to sign the car the other Groups sign the window so they can easily removed it. But Solar as the leader hahaha she sign at the door. And it's very big so everyone can notice it easily 😂 When hwasa perform she spray red the bckup dancer clothes - "pd" and sing meongcheongi ( stupid ) part then she spray the camera too. When mamamoo performs they made quotes "ain't no love in this party". At the end of their performance they do ad-lib like they have to cut cut cut. And yes mamamoo never attending MMA again. That's why i love mamamoo so much they not just a girl group. They grew and labeled as a talented girl group. Really proud of them.
ok this narrative is getting old. koreans LOVE mamamoo... mamamoo literally was UNKNOWN to the entire west (and tbh still is) til around 2019-2020. that means 5-6 years of mamamoo RELYING on korean fans to keep them from disbanding. mamamoo at one point was the NUMBER 1 GG in korea. mamamoo isnt even top 10 favorite groups in all western markets (and then ironic cause who are popular in the west? blackpink, twice, etc. the girl groups who ALSO marketed under the KBS). saying all koreans subscribe to the beauty standard is ridiculous because in AMERICA the beauty standard is curvy, big butt, big breasts, and thick lips. guess what some american women do? get BBL's and tanning salons, lip injections and boob jobs. but guess wut? not every american finds that attractive. just like america, korea is filled with differnt people with diffferent opinions. even taylor swift is considered a "flat board, who looks like a dude" in many english comment sections slandering her. so this entire narrative that somehow koreans are this evil entity that only likes 1 kind of beauty is simply projection.

YES. they have to busking, they have to overworked, they have to attend 5 - 7 festival per days, then go to Live, have to sleep 2 - 3 hours everyday. Until 2019 for what? For promoting themselves. Just because corona. Finally they stop doing that. And most of people knows MMM from the Internet, RUclips, etc. Its massive bcs lockdown. Edit : it's not the narrative is getting old. It's the part of their journey. If the company do some promotion like the big 3 or like BTS. Maybe it's different. The Company made an excuses like they want MMM to becoming a nation GG not international. That's why they not promoted on the west and etc. Even, The fans "moomoo" need to help them promoted their USA concert. Thankfully MMM had a very loyal fans.
@@GiggleFox that's how I know you're a new fan cause you don't even have your information correct. Hwasa doesn't fit the Korean Beauty Standard(KBS)... which are insane, and often dangerous. And BTW KBS is a thing for the MEN as well. None of Mamamoo do.
100% to all of this.:)

If you need extra confirmation, I'll go walk across the street to RBW and ask them directly.
We will continue supporting Mamamoo for as long as there is more content to react to :-)
I'm so invested to your MAMAMOO reactions videos. And it's not a problem if you can't pick a favorite member because you'll just love all of them. For me, it depends upon who's making a comeback. 🤣

I mean, mamamoo has quite a few stages of their 1cm performances, so if you wanted to go a few weeks just watching diss tracks instead of MVs you probably could XD
and i mean, elaborate projects. they have their standard chaotic music show stages of 1cm, but they've also remixed it into a couple different genres, done long hype sessions to lead into it at concerts, and eventually started building LORE for it??? several of their concerts have different 1cm stages with animated VCRs beforehand telling of their story, then elaborate skits with things ranging from wild costumes to actual stunts?!? so yes def check out some music but just know those stages are out there when you need a good laugh again lmaoo
Multiple weeks of reacting to different stages of this song?? Don't tempt us
@@alongfortheridereacts oh I happily will XD def should probably explore some other stuff first but I have planted the seed cuz some of those stages are INSANE and they're always hilarious 🤣 I brought a few friends that are casual mamamoo fans at most to their concert this year, and they were all so confused during the 1cm segment (it must've been like 10 or 15 minutes sdkjsk) but still had a great time because mamamoo is just too good at making you laugh 🤣🤣
The Korean woman I order albums through pronounces it Hweein. The first time we saw Hwasa's name Romanized was on their first pre-debut MV and they spelled it Wassa. In Hangul, both names start with the same character.
Whasa. :)
But because Wheein and Hwasa's spellings were too similar, they had to change it to
hwasa. :D
But yes, both are pronounced as white's wh-.
Better to use who's wh since white is pronounced wyte a lot of times.
Thank you. This really helps. We will try to get the pronunciation better for our next one :-)

Thanks for this. Congrats for reaching 1k subs!

Me encanta sus reacciones.
Un dato sobre Solar: hizo mas de 50 audiciones pero en ninguna la querian porque la consideraban "vieja" con 18 años y "fea" para debutar en un grupo.
You two really just *get* it and I love it.
"Only their diss-songs" ... well... that would mostly be Hip, which accidently also is their biggest hit so far. 🙂
Oooh, OK. That might be one to check out

MamamooTV is the source you're all looking for.
@@Jasruler Thank you! It has been so long since they posted there, I didn't think the channel still even existed...

Just discovered your yt channel and I have to say I like it 👍

Where are we now by Mamamoo is one of my favourites. You should watch Queendom which is a competition show between 6 female K-pop groups and Mamamoo are one of them. Also their Killing Voice performance will give you a sampling of their songs and it’s really good. They are really the only female group I watch. ❤
I wish we could react to Queendom, but I'm pretty sure they'd get taken down! Hopefully we can find a way
18:44 in korea it is VERY unconventional! she’s considered fat and too dark and ugly.
korean beauty standards are very strict and.. questionable i’d say. their image of a beautiful woman is : pale skin, being extremely skinny (underweight), and having an “innocent charm”
so hwasa really became a symbol of perseverance for women considered “unattractive” in korea
We simply cannot get our heads round it
@@alongfortheridereacts yeah i was equally SHOCKED when i first heard about this.. she’s literally one of the most beautiful women i’ve ever seen
Thanks so much for reacting to this... it really helped me out in the beginning ❤ happy travel with MooMoos 😉 you have a great ride infront of you
Thank you! We're very much here for it :-)
You guys are so goddamn adorable. I want to be your next door neighbor or whatever the dreary and emotionally distant British equivalent of that is.
Thank you! It would be great to have neighbours a bit more likely to enjoy hearing K-Pop through the walls :-)
There are so many videos of them being the best comedians so hypothetically you can spend weeks reacting to that😂😂😂
Hahaha! That is very much the current plan
I love this so much
Oh, I forgot to explain Purple Hawke's statement that unlike the typical idol image Hwasa is "unconventionally thikk, tan, and proud of it." As I'm sure you know, most female idols are rail thin and I'm also sure you don't need me to explain the physical and mental health issues that accompany extreme dieting by teenaged girls.
@@alongfortheridereacts 👍
mamamoo is the only group where i can see none of the members in any other occupation. given how talented they are, i'm sure they _could_ take up other jobs, but all four of these women were BORN to be singers and performers! you can see it in the way each of their live performances just radiate passion and energy, and how each of them gives their all in everything they do.
and yes, the korean beauty standards are just impossible. so many idols have admitted to having their mental health absolutely broken down by the expectations placed on them, having to starve themselves to fit the cookie cutter standard of an idol. so it's really refreshing to see mamamoo say "nah fuck that" and proudly be themselves. all of the members were shamed for being "ugly" at some point, especially hwasa. but they refused to give into the pressure and instead created their own trademark.
not just with beauty standards either, but with everything they do. moonbyul is unapologetically androgynous and is also often referred to as "conservative moon" because of how she doesn't like to show skin that much. she prefers gender neutral and loose fitting clothes, and says that she can be sexy even without showing skin. solar was considered "old" when she debuted (she was only in her 20s but kpop prefers to debut literal children) but she went on to become an incredibly influential idol.
all of these women are so authentic and so unabashedly themselves, and it's such a breath of fresh air in an industry where visuals are valued more than skill, and idols are usually just products for the public. i recommend you check out their song 'Yes I Am', it's a lighthearted pop song but it talks about how they break stereotypes and love themselves as they are.
It really should not ever have happened like that.
Koreans are MEAN the sane way little kids over here are MEAN.
If you want to find the worst trolls and bullies on the internet, my vote is on Korea to find the biggest collection of super-toxic asses.
its funny when you think that labels back in the day said that hwasa was to full figured for the kpop scene... this group n hwasa has beaten the steriotypical odds of the music scene at the time...
I like to introduce people to them with the contrast between Starry Night and Egotistic, two of the title tracks from 4 Seasons.
her name in hangul is written as hwi-in tho
In the early mv of mamamoo, wheein written as hweein.
We have no plays to Whee-out (or Hwee-out!!)
@@yennyyyseo18 When it's not romanized as a W her name in Korean writing starts with the consonant that makes the H sound then the vowels that make Oh and EE sounds. You can hear it in the videos when they talk to her in Korean.

Great suggestion. Thank you!
wow 3mins ago😂
4:00 _Technically,_ her name is properly pronounced "Hwee-in" (휘인), but the H-sound is largely disregarded, especially given that her stage name is spelled with the W first. But yeah, the electro-voice is just guessing wrongly.
5:20 She _is_ kind of a skill sponge. If she feels like learning something new, she pretty much just _does._
5:35 I've got a vague recollection she _may_ have done a tattoo at some point, but I may also be completely misremembering, and I'm pretty sure that's one skill she hasn't acquired yet. Give her a minute, though...
9:05 "I'm the modest one." 😜
15:35 All the time _when she's performing._ I think of Hwasa and Hyejin as kinda like Superman and Clark Kent; two very different personas each occupying its own name, though in Hwasa's case, both are very much the real her.

As it is, it is spelled and pronounced as Hwi-in
Thank you, this really helps
Korean Netizens are insane, I remember there was this kpop idol who was critized also for not wearing bra but sadly and tradically, she took her own life. She couldnt bear the bashing and bullying she got from the internet.
It truly is heartbreaking! The amount of pressure and criticism they need to endure is too much
Subtitles in Portuguese please
I pronounce it as WE - IN.
That's so good to know. We will definitely check out a Wheein live performance, thank you for the recommendation :-)
And it's very big so everyone can notice it easily 😂
When hwasa perform she spray red the bckup dancer clothes - "pd" and sing meongcheongi ( stupid ) part then she spray the camera too.
@@josephkim3542 I said "TOXIC KNETZ" and the early mamamoo era.
Mamamoo best choices is joining immortal song 2. So it's like they got 2nd debut in korea.
BP, Twice it's not famous in the west because marketed under KBS. It bcause they are from BIG 3 companies. They have a good promotions.
Thanks to Psy, 2NE1, and BTS because they paved the way so even from not under big 3, mamamoo can be known slowly.
Until the early 2016 MMM still worried about disband even "you're the best" got 1st on the music chart. Thankfully decalcomanie was successful.
Mamamoo relying on korean fans? YES. they have to busking, they have to overworked, they have to attend 5 - 7 festival per days, then go to Live, have to sleep 2 - 3 hours everyday.
Knets didn't call solar too old, CEO's and recruiters did. no one knew of mamamoo til after they debuted, so how could anyone say anything about solar BEFORE debuting? And she WAS old for a trainee that is an objective fact. And hwasa WAS a chubbier girl. Doesn't mean we didn't love her when she debuted. You pretend random trolls represent the entire nation, but if the world judged Americans on the comments they say online, you would be crucified. And I've been following mamamoo for 9+ years. I didn't need a RUclips recap of what happened, I was there firsthand to witness it. YOU take translations from fanmade videos and rely on terribly translated videos to spew ur anti-Korean rhetoric. Lemme guess, you think moonbyul prefers to be called handsome right? 갈생겼다 means good looking, not handsome. That's why everyone thinks moonbyul some boyish lesbian, but she's actually very feminine. They were never labeled as an ugly and old GG group. They were told that they aren't gonna market themselves as the pretty girl group, but rather rely on their talents to win over the crowd. This is a FACT. Just cause you watched a few translated videos does not mean you actually captured the nuance of language
@@josephkim3542 MOST Koreans may LOVE Mamamoo (good for them, very smart) but it is the EXTREMELY LOUD SCREAMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CLASS by the goddamned trolls that everybody hears.

Hwasa doesn't fit the Korean Beauty Standard(KBS)... which are insane, and often dangerous. And BTW KBS is a thing for the MEN as well.
None of Mamamoo do.
As for her being darker skinned... that is an ASIAN(Korean/Japanese/Chinese). If you had tanned skin it ment you were low class, working outside in the fields. Lighter skin ment higher class. It's stll a thing.
Where as Westerners want to be tanned.
Thank you. Yes, we know that KBS applies to men as well. I think we found it very difficult seeing them applied in this way to Hwasa. We get it - we don't think it's right, but we know that we aren't from that culture and so it's hard for us to fairly judge
Mamamoo is the best but im surprised this channel haven’t react to blackpink yet. They are consider the biggest girl group in the world along with twice . Bts for the male group. Blackpink for the girl Group
Thank you!! The problem with blackpink for us is that we know them SO well. There are very few songs or big stages that we haven't watched a bunch of times and so reacting to them is difficult. Maybe we'll 're-react' to some of our favourites though... we'd like to show our love for the group
