I'll say here what I said in the Dungeon World video: Yes, Dungeons & Dragons is really complicated for beginners but D&D 5th Edition is very beginner friendly. The mechanics are very streamlined and way less restrictive in comparison with older editions. For example, a Paladin in 3rd Edition can only be Lawful Good and they need to worship a god. In 5th Edition, Paladins don't need to worship gods and can be of any alignment. I knew nothing about the game but I could learn while I play. Great video btw.
5e is definitely easier to pick up than previous editions were (Especially looking at you 3e/pathfinder), but I wouldn't call it necessarily beginner friendly. There is still a lot of minutia to keep track of and the vancian magic system still remains super unintuitive for your average newbie. Nothing you can't power through, obviously, but I've seen plenty of people bounce off 5e hard.
@@beanstheclown I understand. I speak from personal experience since I never played D&D before and 5e was my first TTRPG and was very easy to learn as I play, differently of 3e. The cool part is that 5e is easier to homebrew so every time I DM I swap the magic slot stuff to Tormenta 20's mana points. Cantrips cost zero mana, level 1 magic cost 1 mana, level 2 magic cost 2 mana and so on My only real problem with D&D in general is when you learn D&D you get accommodated to it and you won't search for other games. I took so long to pierce my D&D bubble and discover other amazing games like Lancer, Cyberpunk Red, Mutants and Masterminds and so on
@@beanstheclown I'll be the first person to admit D&D's many flaws but Vancian magic isn't unintuitive. My 8 year old picked up on it immediately. It's all in how it's explained to the newbie, and the actual books explain it BADLY. In fact, the books explain most everything badly. AngryGM has a good rant about it - but basically D&D is a fantastic game that's easy to play but is explained by the books in such a legalistic and overly-complicated fashion no one can understand it without help. It's been that way since 1974 to be honest. Go back and read the original 3 booklets and good luck trying to make sense out of anything Gary wrote.
@@beanstheclown 5e is beginner friendly. Some people are just not into it enough to learn the rules and just want to play a game with friends and others are playing with a DM that isn't good at playing with new people. Almost every player I've played with was a new player when they started in my game, and everyone came away from the first game with a solid grasp of the game's basics despite not having read any of the rules or having played beforehand. If you have a newbie-friendly DM you can show up to your first game with nothing and learn the game. When we say beginner friendly, we don't mean that you're going to learn 100% of the rules before your first game, we mean that you won't come away from your first game more confused than you went into it, which is the case with some other systems and some older editions of D&D.

@@medeucaa well I am only a day into it but i can already tell you it’s a lot of fun and I am enjoying it a lot. It is a little daunting at first but once you get started and get familiar, espically with pre generated characters it gets easier and is a lot of fun and I recommend it highly.
@@medeucaa if you'd like to take a look at the game, besides the starter set they also have the basic rules online for free here: dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules No pregenerated characters or adventure, but you can find those elsewhere or in the starter set. But it does give you rules for creating and running four of the races and four of the classes from levels 1 to 20. Which means you can also use it to continue levelling up your characters from the starter set or to give you more options.

A full ASMR campaign where a curse has been placed on the lands. The curse of ASMR no noise can be louder than a certain limit and must stimulate your brain or something haha. So everyone has to whisper
I think that'd be a really cool one-shot for sure. I know there was a homebrew race of moth people who could only whisper, so it'd be cool to have a 4-5 hour session just with whispers
@@scottrenton1114 You need those kinds of friends too. They’re the ones you can get a bit more drunk and convince it was them who agreed to run around naked.
D&D 5th Edition is also great for homebrewing. I made an entire cyberpunk scenario using the 5e rule set once. My group ended up preferring to play a more traditional campaign but making a scenario didn't took me so long.
@@NihlusN7 4th was super good for that too. Due to how it's structured with abilities and such. Made it super easy to completely overhaul the system. My group used the 4th edition rules alongside Shadowrun source books to create a super good more combat focused Shadowrun board game.
You always have some of the best video topics. Been watching for years and still am always so amazed by how similar our interests are and how good your videos are 🙂DnD is awesome and such a great way for people to come together
Oh, handy tip if you do need a d100 but only have the dice from this starter; the d20 can act as the tens dice. Use only the right most digit rolled on the d20 and multiply by 10. So for example a 12 becomes 2 and thus 20. A 6 remains 6 and thus 60. A 10 (or 20) becomes 0. Etc.

That would be awesome.
I would love to see some character creation videos. Make a level one character and level them up to 20. Possibly discussing good abilities and combos and such.
